Reporting at 12:28PM we officially have 3" on the ground. Slight gust from the SE earlier, that died off, and snowfall rate is steady and increasing.

The trails along the hills might be a little bony unless the snow can get through the trees, I'll prolly check it out later today, only got about 2" down right now. If your talking about alpine skiing, good look, XC may be more doable. Wissahickon is private property and posted, FYI. At least that's the official line and if you go there and members are there, not sure if they'll let you ski or not. If you wanna poach on my little hill to skiers right of the lodge, be my guest.

WMOE Weather station reporting from Mt. Moeghoul 8:42 AM 22 degrees, no wind, 1st inch has fallen, Butch the weather vane is ready for anything. Precipitation is steady, a finer/drier snow is falling, prolly falling at about 1/2 inch clip/hr.

I'll be the douchebag standing in front of you at the lift line. Jeff and GSS will be 4 behind you. Absent crazy winds, or some F/U by blew, tomorrow will be one of those rare days in the Pokeys.

Loaded up pix from the past few days at Elk. Today was good skiing, sunny, cold in the teens, no wind, plenty of corduroy, Tunk is open top to bottom, a few spurs opened and more work is being done. Spent the day lapping Susquehanna, Tunk and Tioga with Wendy and a few other local peeps. Left at 2, booked a room @ Chet's for Jan 20-22 for Elk day Friday. I smell like ass and my hair looks like it was used to scrub out an oil pan. I might have to go with the rasta man look. Reverse chronology: second chair this AM, I'm slipping..... Sunrise Guns blazing before dawn Temp outside this AM Trax of my poached run down Seneca under the lift on Thursday. Some miscellaneous shots Total dinner check at Chet's Wednesday. HUGE pile of food for a Turkey dinner and 2 #9's.......

Won't start snowing until daybreak Saturday, so the heaviest snows prolly won't fall until later into the day. Gusty winds could be a buzzkill, Sunday should be a homerun.

6:23AM 5 degrees no wind at the base guns running no new snow overnite,, hooking up with a local friend today. This gal can rip, rides on Recons!!

Upper Tunk is open.

Sub zero down bag and car heaters that blow hot goodness into the mancave.down booties from north face are essential. Early lunch by the pit, poached the liftline in ankle to boot deep drift on skiers right then ducked over to the bunny lift and I think I evaded detection. Upper Tunk looks great, should be good to go today or Friday, lower Tunk is getting some love today, groomers are pushing snow around, no news on when it opens yet. Awesome cord, no cookies, 1st chair, 1st trax. FKNA!

6:45AM Dawn patrol report at Elk. 15 degrees, partly cloudy, lite breeze outta the SW, and...........wait for it...........4+ inches of natural fresh powder goodness. Word, out.

But it's showing upwards of a foot of snow in the midatlantic next Thursday/Friday

Word is from the park crew that nothing else opens up until the weekend. Guess I'll focus on turning cookies into pow....

I'm getting all the local 411. The story about the elk is that the guy that shot it lent it to the lodge and he died recently. The fa ily asked that a plaque be made in his honor and elk refused. So the fam ily took the elk back, lol.

that's elk. They don't want to be camelback or hunter. Snow is decent, but a fair amount of cookies (powder pellets)

Tough call. Upper Tunk is based but ungroomed no guns all day. Lower tunk is blown but looks thin and no guns on today. I'll be scouting 411 on openings into the weekend and posting. At the firepit now boozin, makin friends then headin over to chet's to get slammed. Spot picked out for camping out. I'm in the moe-zone. Out.

Pulled in at 8, unloaded at the picnic lodge with a roaring fire, booted up and got 3rd chair. 24 degrees at the base partly sunny steady wind from the southwest 10-15 mph. Seneca and tioga open, groomed with a few cookies. Turducken soup on the fire pit. Out.

I haven't ruled out Hunter. It'll come down to 1) Conditions @ Elk and 2) Am I up for a long drive, and how long? Good thing is, I'll have a shorter drive north from Elk vs. here.

I'm heading to Elk early tomorrow for opening, no point going to Sno for 2 hours and then sleeping in a car. Waste of $ and my bed is nice n warm. I'll figure out where to go from there or just hang at Elk. That's the final non-plan plan.

I'm blowing them off. I'm usually done skiing by 3PM. Maybe later in the winter when they have weekday AM hours.
