Making Turns

Making Turns (3/10)

  1. It looks like about half of the lazy river is filled in and the pile of snow over by ski school is higher than the pump house for the water slide. The piles of snow on whistler are at least 15 feet high also. Even after 4 years, I am still amazed at Sno's ability to lay down the white stuff.....
  2. My wife and kids went up this past week, they had a ball and are definitly going again. They have a repeat pass. You can buy a return pass for $17.00. We are also thinking about buying a familt pass, they will have to go 9 times to make it worth it. We have a busy summer already so we are trying to figure out if it would be worth it.
  3. Job fair at sno, C&P from th eweb site: Looking For A Job? Are you looking for a job with great perks such as FREE SKIING AND RIDING this winter? Attend Sn
  4. Shif, come to sno on a snow day, we won't see a trail all day long. Sno has excellent tree skiing if you know where to look. My main reason to ski sno/ montage is its location. Elk is another 45 minutes, tough drive if you have a couple of beers. also you have Scranton and Wilkes Barre afterwards for some good night life. No such thing at Elk, they have a couple of bars but not the clubs that the 2 cities have, not that I have been out much since my kids were born. And I really think the snow quality is much better since the installation of sno's new 8 million snow making system.
  5. I was at Sno last Saturday. I would have changed only 2 things. I would change the pick of bands, they have metal bands instead of some german bands and the should have had a grill outside cooking the bratwurst. But other than that I had a real good time.
  6. Barb, I have 2 sons and feel your pain as far as getting equipment goes. I relly think you don't need to consider "race" skis or boots. Kids really don't develop the angles at this age. Besides all the skis are basically the same with different graphics. I would contact the ski team or race director to put you in contact with some other race parents to see if they have any skis or boots. I buy boots for my kids because I was renting for $40-$50 a year and you could buy a pair for less than $100 and each one of my kids will get a year out of each boot. Be careful that you don't get the boots too big otherwise his skiig will really suffer. If the team dosen't pan out, eBay is a great place to get equipment cheap.
  7. A couple of friends, me and our kids went to the Oktoberfest yesterday. It was free to get in and the beer and food process really weren
  8. I never had a serious girlfriend after I turned 21. Not being tied down and going where I wanted when I wanted was the best. The only serious gf I ever had taught me everything I didn't want in a spouse. I did not meet my wife until I was almost 29. I had a rule, a gf had to last 2 ski seasons. Since my winter job is skiing, the first year was always great, it was the second season was the real test. well my wife was so good through 2 I change my rule to 3 seasons. Well after 3 ski seasons and we were still together and more importantly skiing together, I just had to marry her b/c i really believed i was not going to get any better. And I was right, I am very happily married with 2 wonderful kids and a really good life. My single friends do less than me and when we do do things like golf, the get more grief then me.
  9. GSS, choose your words very carefully. I have about 10-12 friends who skied with me 90 days a year, now they don't even own skis. I know some guys who talked like you and now they have to ask to take a shit there so whipped..... Money is the real issue, this is the first year my wife is not working so we have to see how our businesses work out in relationship to our bills for the year. Also the kids are not ready to ski out west yet, close, but not yet. We are planning to go to Tahoe in March 2010
  10. Would love to, but I think my wife would kill me if I went out west again. '08-9days, '07-8 days '06- 9 days, '05- 11 days. She said if I go again she is filing for divorce..... We are thinking about taking our 2 boys to whiteface around the middle of march. The Scranton Ski/drinking Club use to go every St. Patrick's day weekend. We went about 7 years in a row. The trip just fell apart b/c we all started having kids. So some of the old guard are thinking about starting the trip up again since all our kid are starting to ski better than their parents.
  11. I agree here, Sno's bumps on white lighting are good and they usually let the right side of boomer to bump up. A good thing last year was that the blew a lot of snow on the bumps on thurs and fri nights so sat mornings are real good. But as good as Sno's bumps are, Elk on the Tunkhannock and Lackawanna are far better and way longer.
  12. O.k $650.00 for Elk ???? Sno $550, Closer, less gas, 8 million dollar snowmaking system with 200 snow guns, Better coverage and quicker recovery from thaw cycles, White lighting, excellent steep trail Can order more than 2 beers at the bar at one time All new rentals new food area IDK seems like a deal to me considering I bought my first pass in 1988 and paid $350 early bird. The price is way less than double in 20 years???? What more do you want plus there are many other pass options to ski and not spend $550.
