  1. Looks like I'll be shovel bitch at bear creek again for the third year now. It's kinda fun having a second job that allows for time on the snow. Trips in the works so far are a possible out west voyage to possibly colorado or utah to visit friends. Know a couple guys out in Breck and have a buddy working at eldora that I taught to ski only 2 years ago. Also taking a ski club bus trip long weekend up to Mont Saint Anne I beleive for a little skiing north of the border. Other than that I have some NS people I wanna visit up at Magic, Killington, and some possible touring up in norhtern VT. Really wanna pack the growlers up and roll back up to magic hat again. I think I have like 10 of em now, that should be a cool 80 bones or so to fill em all, mmmmmm 5 gallons of magic hat straight from the source.
  2. I would highly doubt any meatloaf, bacon wrapped or not, that you get at a diner could even come close to what the grill serves. I somewhat agree though, reduced red wine sauce or not I don't really feel good paying over 20 bucks for meatloaf. It is super good though. It ain't run o the mill meatloaf that's for sure. Much softer, I'd bet it's not even beef. I wonder how they're doing with that whole entertainment tax thing that winter brought up earlier in the summer.
  3. Haha Spring mt., that's pretty funny. Who the hell goes to spring anymore?? Anywho, I found the food to be pretty damn good last night. I did go with something I've had before though so it was a safe bet. Their menu is pricey as hell I'll give ya that, not much more pricey than quite a few of the other establishments in the area though. Savory grill, carriage house, and Thatched inn/geryville publik house/ whatever the hell its called now, are all in the 20 some dollar an entree area. I snagged the bacon wrapped meatloaf with some kind of reduced red wine sauce with sauteed onions and garlic mashed to the tune of 23 bucks and a troegs sunshine pils. Moms had the hawiian prime rib, which was basically pineapple and soy marinated, and a loaded baked tater to the tune of 28 bones. He did say it was marinated for like 2 days though, I though it was rather good. May not be a high class 5 star restaurant but it's pretty good for the prices I suppose. I have no complaints. I'll still eat there every 3 months or so, and it's not a bad place to take a date for a classy dinner. The place was dead though, but we were there on a tuesday night at 6 so take that for what its worth.
  4. I'm going to the grill tonight actually to have dinner with my mother haha. I'll post up a report on whatever I grub on. It's been a while since I ate there actually, well a couple months at least. The dutchmen are a wild bunch. I've been on a couple multiple club ski trips and those folks always seem to be having a great time. Also they seem to always win the races between the local clubs on said trips. Probably the epsc winter carnivals I'm remembering. I think I'm doing the winter carnival this year too so I might see em up there in Canadia, Mont Saint Anne I think is where we're going. Should be a hell of a bus ride.
  5. I've never seen it happen in my 30 years here in southeast PA. Halloween is pushing it, I'd say we start getting dustings around thanksgiving.
  6. ditch the racecourse and put baby park on timberline haha
  7. If we're lucky maybe it'll be just another two months til another catastrophic 12" snowstorm that will knock my power out for another week. I'd still be stoked on October turns again though.
  8. 09-10 wasn't too bad. My road
  9. I have balding street tires on my truck, murphy never seems to disappoint, so I'm guessing that means we'll get slammed with snow this year and I'll inevitably run off the road several times.
  10. Do we have one from BC?? I don't think I've ever seen him post on here. I haven't been here long though. You would think with the amount of BC chatter that goes on in here they would pop in and post here and there, I mean hell we're four pages deep discussing their mountain with this thread alone. Seems like a PR opportunity if I've ever seen one. I know Tom does a pretty good job of keeping everyone posted on the parks as the season is underway. A little friendly dialogue would probably go a long way towards some respect and some new business, I know I've seen several people on here already state that they would like to check out BC this year whether it be their events, biking, or skiing in the upcoming season. I don't think doug tries to run people off, just kinda has an abrasive attitude.......not mean either, just sort of odd maybe?? That's saying it in a nice way I guess. Confusingly passionate about posting I guess would be another way to put it. Maybe I could apply to be a social media rep for BC. I guess they post up a lot more over on the book of faces though.
  11. I'm predicting a mid december opening or just before christmas for BC. Overall winter will be better than last year by far, I'm going with several storms over 6" for the lehigh valley and possibly a blizzard of over a foot. It's gonna be a cold one cause I wanna play some damn pond hockey.
  12. Dude doug, you gotta go to the grill or trails end on any given weekend. You know BC holds about 4 weddings a weekend right?? Can you say drunken bridesmaids????
  13. the grill has a better draft beer selection than any bar within 20 minutes I'd bet. I'm often surprised by the micros they have in there, 5 bones for a micro draft is not expensive in my opinion. All the food I've ever got in there is pretty damn good, the cafeteria in the lodge is another story. M-bike, I would totally go for a mountain bike ride followed by beers. I'm not very fast on a bike these days though, still better than most though I'd say.
  14. Yea if I had to guess I probably started skiing doe in about 93 or 94, I turned 31 this year. I think the structure you speak of still stands there though, and the campfire ring is still there too. We have often thought about hiking up there and starting one on really cold nights. That sounds exactly like what I'm talking about though, I remember smelling the woodfire outside the snack shack and the feeling of the warmth and hot chocolate smell hitting ya as soon as ya opened the door. It's a vibe that adds a value that is much more than any amount of revenue could ever generate. I mean don't get me wrong though, classy bars and hot tubs make me smile too. Overall I'm happy it is now BC and no longer doe mountain, I'd just like to see em push for a little more local moutain vibe. The can classic this year is an awesome example of a step in the right direction though.
  15. I too would like to see it as a singles event, or the option at least. I will definitely come to this event next year and drag several friends along as well, everyone I told about it was sorry they didn't attend. Also thanks for being cool, I may or may not have one of those sieze the summer PBR signs framed and now adorning my cottage wall.
  16. Nah, I actually agree with ya on this one. Blowing early is always gonna risk the catastrophic melt downs we get her in southern PA, but focusing on a few trails rather than all is a good idea. Hey hey now, we've got sasquach, that ain't a cruiser, it's only a hundred yards long but it sure is steep haha. I like the way BC has been doing things, it's much better than doe ever was that's for sure. One thing I REALLY REALLY miss though is the top snack shack. The vibe and atmosphere it brought when doe ran it was incredible. I've seen the building recently while hiking and it looks like it needs tons of work or maybe to be knocked over and started new even. I'd love to see that happen though. While BC is dropping buckets of money on things like a tennis court, it seems like they could afford to redo the classic top food shack. It would make the mountain much much cooler in my opinion. Guess that just speaks to where the majority of their money is coming from these days. It would give it much more of a home mountain vibe though. I heard they're gonna put a drop in ramp on one of the cell towers just so they can compete with blue's vert.
  17. Had a blast yesterday at the can classic. It was nice meeting ya Allen. Didn't stick around to see how ya did at the horseshoes but I assume ya made it further than I, we got knocked out in the second round. I did make off with one of those sieze the summer Pabst cardboard signs though, so that was kinda like a consolation prize haha. They sure had some tasty beers at pretty reasonable prices. Kinda wish I had gotten into some of the food too, it looked pretty damn good.
  18. Sounds like a plan man, I'm gonna try and get there around noon as well weather permitting. I'm in a big white toyota t100 plastered with boat, ski, and beer stickers. That's assuming I can get my cv axle changed this afternoon. Hottest day of the year......why not work on the truck haha.
  19. It is indeed a tournament. Just called em and the said there might be some free play time afterward if the tournament doesn't run too long. Signup and practice starts at noon til 2. Tournament starts at 2 and runs as long as it takes. Any leftover time after the tourny is gonna then go to free time if anyone else wants to play, but the event ends at 5. Guess I should have asked how many pits theyre gonna be playing on to get a better guess on how long it'll take. I'd be up for making a team though and getting in on the tourny action if that's what its gonna take to play some shoes. Now I'm wondering if they're gonna try and charge people for it.
  20. Haha that was just more of a general suggestion than a solution to the problem brought up by this thread.
  21. BC should totally put in a skate park, hell it'd see more use than those expensive tennis courts that I never see anyone playing on. Also Ironworks could keep the cost down by manufacturing all the rails. I mean the place is already going towards the young jibbers anyway, why not put in a jib park for the summer. I know I'd use it. That's also something they could charge for that I wouldn't mind paying admission to. And yes I primarily rollerblade, so commence with the telling your parents about your sexuality jokes.
  22. Haha unlikely?? It would take a catastrophic earthquake and a devastating fire to shut that place down at this point I think. They have built way to much in recent years to give up on that place. Although as a low level employee there it wouldn't bother me if they shut the doors, I'd have to find another minimum wage winter second job. As a lifelong doe mountain skier though it would hurt to see the local hill close for sure. I mean I wouldn't wanna have to start going to blue and risk bumping into Douglass again. haha just kiddin doug.
  23. nevermind winter, I found the reading eagle article, well if you could call it that. Sounds like a low blow from a struggling township board if you ask me. Imagine what ten percent of all their lift ticket and tubing sales are. That's a lot of dough I'd think. Hope they don't count weddings as amusement revenue.
  24. What are you the frickin ski industry revenue police or something. First the thread about them losing money this year, and now this?? You really have a soft spot for old doe mountain don't ya?? Your link ain't working for me though, and I'd honestly like to read what the eagle had to say. Any chance you can try again. Oh hey look this link from google works. http://www.skiesq.com/2012/06/bear-creek-fails-to-pay-amusement-tax.html Wonder what the other amusement type businesses think about this......actually I wonder what the other amusement type businesses are actually. Maybe that paintball place up toward emmaus?? 10% is pretty darn heavy handed if you ask me.
  25. What my 1 bedroom cottage lacks in floor space is easily made up for in yard space, bring a tent I guess is what I'm saying. Dude have you seen their lodge and hotel recently??? Top notch I must say, and I've been to some of the bigger resorts up in New England. It's obscene the amount of cash they put into that place. ZZ I'm always down for throwing some shoes, don't know how they're gonna play it though as it seems some of the games are open play and others are being used for tournaments. Not sure if everybody is gonna be allowed to just show up and throw shoes. They do seem to not be advertising costs for any of this though so I might sign up for a shoe tourny if it's free. Also it should be said that I have heard very good things about the bass fishing in the lower pond there. Like really good things, and I can vouch for some of it as I've caught a bass or two out of there myself already along with perch and catfish. I've heard there are some huuuuuuge catfish in there actually. I think they charge like 5 bones for a year long fishing permit to their lake or something like that.
