  1. Couple dozen legit riders, couple hundred gapers.
  2. My home mountain is surely the top offender in this category. You want a good gaper show??? Just hang out on the side of black bear any night of the weekend. Oh the things I've witnessed just this year alone. Football jersey jean skier the other night was the best though, could hardly ski but was straight airing the entire 20-30 ft hip we had set up, backslapper or yard sale every time. Set up a sweet up round rail the other day, proceeded to watch mom stop aside of it and pull out camera phone to take pics of her 6 year old pizza jumping off the side of the lip. Why anyone would take their kid into the park to practice turns is beyond me. I knew how to skate before I ever went into a skatepark, they might have been rollerskates but I knew how to turn at least. I'm all for some expert only restrictions in the park but it'll never happen. No rentals at elk in the park sounds like a good start, it's really too bad they don't put their park on one of their real trails.
  3. Haha, same way they claim 6 lifts and 21 trails on the weather channel ticker. It's native american magic, I think they measure the snow depth on the backside near the burial grounds. I hear it's really deep back there. They may be padding that 500 vert a little bit too but who's counting.
  4. Snow is holding up well considering the temps. Starting to see a brown spot here or there but no mud really showing through on the trails yet. We switched a few things out of boredom and cause we figured a new build is a bit away what with the warm temps and all. pulled the skate rail up onto the lip so it's an up rail as stated already. Flipped the dfd around for a fdf with a lip at the front and then a small urban type lip on either side starting at the down. Kicked it up last night and really stayed on top of things cause the wet snow was really workable. The kids seemed to enjoy it. yeah the mini jumps are boring for you guys maybe but the gapers love em and it helps stop the side jumping on the rail lips.
  5. Wow does this mean there is currently no park at blue or is there a mini one somewhere on the mountain??
  6. Gotta keep the dad's happy, ski patrol loves it too.
  7. Prayers to her parents, nobody should have to bury their children.
  8. I don't know, it's a fine line. I mean it's freestyle, it pretty much means do what you want. Of course sitting in the landing is a dangerous idea, but pulling a pass for it??? Snaking someone? I mean who has the right of way unless every single person calls their drop, and trust me that doesn't happen. Lip jumpers, honestly, while it looks totally gaperific, I don't really even mind that much. Some of those little straight ski gaper kids are more stoked on 1 foot of air than the regulars who are kicking themselves in the but cause they missed a 270 on or didn't get their press just right. Granted they'd be safer in the baby park but it's their choice to ski where they want. I don't think putting tons of rules on it is gonna make it any more fun. It's dicey but I say leave it the way it is, a free for all. If you'd like to improve it, like johnnylaw said just police your own. That doesn't mean beat kids up or yell at them, but a few kind words of safety instruction can go a long was. Hell I learned most of this courtesy stuff in skate parks growing up rollerblading, and there were no park passes in there, pay the money and go where you want. Any of you old farts ever been to cheapskates in line lexington when they still let bikes, blades, and boards all go at once?? It was a mad house, ya learn to roll with it safely or you get thinned from the herd.
  9. I think that was the year before actually.
  10. Start encouraging our park rats to police their own??? That sounds like a great solution and a horrible idea at the same time haha. We had red markers last year I know that, think we've still got em and are authorized to flag tickets. Which is surprising honestly as some at BC treat park crew like the red headed stepchild of the mountain, when in actuality we're out there breaking our backs and risking life and limb working in the most dangerous trails on the hill and acting as a second set of eyes and ears for patrol. Hell lifties probably make more than most of us pushing shovels and I'd bet dollars to donuts we sweat ten times more than those cats.......You ever try to fill a bomb hole at the end of a flat box when it's 20 degrees out and conditions are dust on crust? Anywho, I don't think I'd feel right taking someone's pass as a fellow mountain enthusiast. Maybe that's what needs to happen though for repeat offenders. only those first two sentences were directed toward Mr. Law.
  11. I don't think it's really a matter of kids being ignorant or rude, it's just the nature of the beast. Extreme sports will always be about pushing the limits, that is good in the sense of pushing yourself to progress and fine tuning your skills. Sometimes though it leads to a no holds barred attitude toward bucking the rules because it's cool. We have kids go right around our skis to rail jump off the lips WHILE we are shoveling a feature. That isn't about not knowing the rules at all, that's about looking hard in front of your friends. Unfortunately that will always be a part of sports of this nature I think. Plenty of people know what they're doing and respect the rules, but there are just as many that don't.
  12. You'd be surprised how many times we get dirty looks from parents of kids or young riders when we try to educate them about park smarts or safety in the terrain park. It's our job, so quite frequently we'll simply tell people "hey try not to sit in the landing, or pick your ski up and put it on over to the side so you don't get run over". They look at us like we're some high school principal harshing all over their mellow, when actually we just don't wanna see anyone get run over and sent away in an ambulance. I would love some kind of instructional video or park pass system but I doubt it will ever happen, I mean half the people in our park aren't even park rats......I think I saw a parent with a kid on a leash in the park the other day. I'll never understand why some parents choose to run the kids down black bear when there is a perfectly good flat trail with no features right next to it. Maybe we need a bigger sign, like the caution signs osha approves for industrial type stuff. Maybe a stick figure skier in a landing with a snowboard chopping off his head or something on a huge bright yellow road sign "DON'T STAND HERE" with arrows and exclamation marks and such.
  13. Don't quote me on it, but it looks like sasquatch has gotten a lot of man made on it, I'd expect it to be open very soon. They were piling it up on cascade yesterday and I'm sure last night, word on the street was of a park build maybe some time this week. I'm sure tom will make an announcement when it goes down.
  14. Wasn't much to speak of, my yard was barely coated this mornin. Was nice to wake up to snow though.
  15. Not there tomorrow, nor am I grilling tomorrow, hence why I said today. I'll be there 2-10 tonight, don't know when the grillin is going down.
  16. Hoping to fire up the yurt grill today and cook up some tasty deer meat, stop in for a bite if ya smell something cooking.
  17. Think I heard they got about 5 hours in sunday night. Don't know about last night or not, didn't have the guns on when I left around 10. Lots of kids were throwin down on the hard pack last night, it was pretty amazing actually.
  18. We were trying to keep up with it, felt nice to actually have some good snow to shape the lips with. I can't believe how many people were riding while they were absolutely hammering black bear. Saw a group of three snowboarders hike to the top around 9:30 or so and take a pow run, the stopped in front of the yurt and one of em just snowed the crap out of the others. It felt very nice and light for manmade snow that's for sure, it didn't seem so light shoveling it though. Heard they're turning on the lift today so that should be good news. I think I heard something about cheap tickets for one more day but don't quote me on it. Maybe 15 bones or something?? I'm off til sunday, and hope to be grillin outside the yurt for the warm weather this weekend, so long as it's not raining.
  19. I think BC should invest in an outdoor ice rink. And a re opening of the top o hill snack shack.
  20. static cam looks like they are hitting it hard right now. They only had one gun on last night when I left at like 830. I could hear the guns going full blast though when I got home at midnight last night and this morning leaving around 730. I'll be up diggin out rails tonight.
  21. never tried it, besides I'm way to addicted to wii golf to play anything else.
  22. I've got about 6,000 over the course of about 7 years over on newschoolers.com I wouldn't say it's wasted time though, as I have brought in multiple skiing friendships, cheap couch stays, and even locally guided ski days at places like k mart and jay. So I'd say it's a rather lucrative investment of my time haha. Also met my park crew manager on that site, so it in a way got me a job as well. Also started my surf fishing habit through meeting papasteeze over there. Lots of benefits to this interweb social networking crap, unless all you do is post trash talk or uneventful TRs.
  23. Punchin out now, headed home to organize the gear and watch the flyers. See yall on the hill tomorrow. If I get there late I'll just canvas the mountain yellin "Rack Em".
  24. untrue, everyone knows al gore invented the interwebs and reaps all the monetary benefits.
  25. Pretty sure all doug does is waste his time on pointless posts here anyway. He better step it up though, looks like we're competing for todays number 1 spot in the top 20 posters of the day. Holy hell I should get back to work.
