diggin up some old jay pics moar? First is a shot from the dip. Second is screaming down Jet I believe. third was at some house afterparty where some of their park crew lived and had built a snake run in the backyard, that pic is just coming off the drop in they had built in the driveway. photos all courtesy of NS's Bangor.

yeah buy a snow camo jacket I gotta plead the fifth on that one. big brother is watching.

Those are the exact woods I got my ticket clipped for skiing. On a weekday. Got caught in there in the morning and warned, then went back in around 3 and they caught us again. I guess a yellow jacket isn't the best idea I ever had though. I've gotten away with more tree skiing at BC than at elk. I'd be surprised if they ever relaxed at all up there.

just the ones that boot up in the lodge, walk around the parking lot and you'll find a much different crowd haha. I watched a group of 6 or so older fellas grillin and drinking whisky last time I was there. After they were nice and tuned up they all headed to the mogul run right under the quad, it was quite hilarious. I wouldn't call those guys soft though haha.

Dear god I hope I never become this "average" skier you speak of. I get your point though, most that ski in this state fall into that category.
-
oh please, the cattle car ride is literally 2 minutes tops. I just ski down to the car honestly though. I see your point though, and to bring this full circle, bear creeks are covered completely I think. The ride is just as short there too.
-
Its more for core skiers I guess, I mean do ya really need canvas tops for the 200 yard shuttle ride up to the base???? But woooaaaaahhhh don't step in the woods or they'll clip your ticket......BS. Although I got away with a courtesy run last year so that was nice, I thought they stopped that.
-
ahhh speed issues, the bane of bear creek since as long as I can remember haha. We did put a little drop in there for the big air last year right??? along with fencing and all just like you're saying. Did that thing really help much????

I've had to drive 40 minutes to work down here, and I'd imagine I'd do the same up there, kingston ain't that far off. Peekamoose just before belleayre is as classy as any restaurant in Vermont, I highly recommend it actually. Short ribs to die for, but anyway. There is lodging in the area that is not crap, you just gotta poke around as it's more toward windham I've found, but it's easy to do a couple days up there. I rented a private hot tub room up there for around 150 I think and it wasn't trashy at all. There are loaded locals too trust me, but yes lots coming in from NYC too. Drive around in the backroads up there sometime and you will quickly see houses that are definitely not run down. I'd say there is a fair amount of wealth up there.

Yeah I've seen the story in the other thread. It does kinda stink that they let a good program go like that. I'm just against most safety precautions. Hell my axe to grind with elk is that they don't open up their trees so I guess I'm just biased in the direction of ski it if you can. Your friends story sounds like something out of hot dog or ski patrol or some other cheesy 80s ski movie haha. I can understand how that could happen I guess, but I really don't think every hazard area should be fenced off. This is a dangerous sport after all.

I'd wager you've never done anything but drive through if that's your take. Ever walk around in woodstock??? I'm not gonna say there aren't a bunch of run down houses along and around 28, but to say most are living below poverty is a bit of a stretch. Stop in the peekamoose next time ya drive through there and tell me there isn't still some money floating around in the catskills. I kinda like the feel of the area actually, granted I haven't seen it since the floods, but it wasn't that long ago that I was actually thinking of moving up there.
-
meh, I'd rather hit a jumpline than ride berms myself. Also, most runs there are hardly long enough to even make an interesting course. I think the most fun I had on it back then was lipping the end of the berm and taking it for some air.
-
maybe I'm thinking of folks that said they wouldn't return to work part time. yeah ghost towns except for saturday and sunday, ever try to get a seat for breakfast in phonecia on the weekend??? that town bumps just like jim thorpe or new hope on the weekend, so does woodstock. I kinda got the vibe that the locals like it just the way it is honestly. It's not that bad, I've seen less going on in parts of norther PA......well before all the shale drilling at least.

Easy buddy, don't grind that axe too hard haha. I've given up on the snack shack ever opening back up. I'd say they are concentrating on the base just like they have been for the last many many years. They might as well, it's their money maker, the snack shack sure isn't gonna draw people from maryland haha. I can remember when that trail was a dedicated X trail for quite some time but I think that was about 5 years ago. That usually just gets gapers in trouble though honestly, they think its a normal fun trail with some berms and small jumps and next thing ya know they are flying over a berm into the woods. Sorry to hear about your friend over there but I'm against dropping more fencing. Not pointing fingers but I've never been "forced" anywhere by another rider. Maybe your friend should have been on a friendlier trail. They've got enough fencing up there as it is IMO.

the earlier they open the earlier I have a second job haha. I'd be surprised if they open by the 10th, and I seriously doubt about that hike park. It wasn't sounding good from what I heard, maybe Tom will give us the final word this week sometime.

Pretty sure the locals and trout unlimited fought it off due to environmental impact. It is kinda dead up there around the bell but I think the locals like it that way. Heard a lot of the bell employees will be lost this year as the state has cut some of their funding I think. Lots of long timers won't be returning. Kinda sad, it has a nice small mountain vibe up there. Lots of nice restaurants in the area but that's about it. I'd still like to throw the kayak on the esopus some time though. Had a bad split with a girl from the area though so I doubt I'll be there at all this season. Might check out Hickory up closer to lake george, heard it has a MRG feel to it.
-
Highmount I heard the development plan fell through. Camped there this summer and there certainly wasn't anything going on. Rusty old lifts, snowgun lines all over just rotting, locked up deteriorating lodge, and lots of high grass. I've never skied it but I heard it gets poached a couple times a season by some of the locals.
-
That's the day you wanna push waaayyyyyy skiers left, I've heard there is a defunkt resort over there that is skiable. Actually I've camped on it. The bell is cool and has some good hiding spots if ya know where to poke around. I was with a girl who was a boarding instructor there last winter so I kinda got a guided tour.
-
I'd be surprised if they can blow snow that early in december. I might come up for a beer from the ice bar though.
-
yeah I'm about 5'8" and pretty frickin light. I ski on 177 though so whatever that's worth haha. I don't even know what size board I'm riding right now honestly, I'd guess it at around 150 though. I rented a skate banana I think last year but I don't know what size that was either and it was rockered I'm pretty sure anyway so. I know this is gaperific but I really know nothing about snowboards other than they are fun to ride.
-
I gotta go down to method skate shop and see what kind of deal he'll give me on a whole new set up, I'm thinking it's gonna be pricey though so this is definitely an option. I'll let ya know fairly soon though. Also I know nothing of snowboards at all, only started a year ago or so on a crap board I got for free from a friend. About what size rider is this board for??? I'm pretty short buy 150something doesn't sound huge to me, but what do I know. A little help please?

still no juice up on the hereford hill. Met ed is saying friday or possibly this weekend. I don't doubt it either, there are still two roads completely blocked on my way to work in boyertown. On the upside I have lots of down limbs to buck and split to keep me busy. Also burning scented candles all night is starting to make the house smell fantastic haha.
-
haha yeah it usually takes a hot water heater to make hot water. Also takes a water pump to refill the shitter too so heads up on that one.
-
How bout them pics??
-
Still no power at my place, been out since noon saturday. Almost hit a tree laying across the road on my way in this morning and there are downed limbs everywhere around the huffs church area, so I'm not really hopeful it'll be back today either. I got a woodstove though so no heat issues. Actually cooked breakfast on it on Sunday. You know how hot you need to get a wood stove to cook eggs and bacon??? it must have been 110 degrees in the house after that adventure. Lots of fresh firewood down in the backyard though, so I got that going for me.
