We did that on a rail last year and it was a big hit. I wasn't there when the guys put em in but was glad to see it again. Makes for an interesting variety on a feature. Don't know if you were there friday but the slow fresh snow made for some epic falls on the big jumps for people that don't quite understand necessary speed.

Yea right, I saw one that sucked so bad last night he couldn't even get speed going down hill. He had to hold onto that rope on the back of the toboggon just so he could get down the hill ha.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. The park had a lot of bulletproof spots last night from the crowds and temps. I still watched a kid double tip slam to faceplant trying a backflip on the jump though.......three times in a row. It was entertaining to watch actually, we just kept a radio in hand in case anybody got messed too bad. Had to call in one dude that requested patrol and a sled ride. Gotta love the dirty looks from kids because they can't hit the jump when we're blocking it cause ski patrol is working in the landing. Like it's the end of the world if they have to wait one run to hit the jump again. Even saw a couple of snowflakes last night.

That's pretty awesome. I've never witnessed that around here, I did see it at the beach one time though late season. They were all floating about a hundred yards offshore and took off in a big group around sunset.

I might be down for this, I though about bringing a friend up if he's up for it. No way in hell I'm making first chair though on a saturday morning ha.

March would be great as I'm sure Bear Creek will be closed by then. I'm good with all described info, hell I'd even sleep in a tent as that may be what we're doing when I go up with my friends from up there. Union jacks works for me, its about 5 minutes from my house and quite close to what I call a local watering hole already. I only frequent the barto cause I know guys on the pool league and there is always good shooters in there and they keep the table in tip top shape. I could use to pick up an ice axe though. Keep us posted, this is something I'm for sure interested in. I've been trying to get up to ski the daks or tucks for the last 3 to 4 years or so, just lack the friends that have skill or knowledge to do so.

I also have an interest. I have no safety equipment at this time other than a shovel though. Got a touring set up and skins though, probably pick up a probe sometime this winter. Beacon I'm just not seeing a need for yet, at least not enough of a need to justify the price, and then there's the fact that I've never even used one. My jacket has a recco reflector though haha. I've already been talking to a couple burlington earn your turn friends of mine about heading up there this year though. They do a daks trip about twice a year. What is peggy o??

Just to clarify, you mean not a free hike park right??? Just something small set aside from the normal park??? I could see this being possible as we usually have extra rails not in use. Don't know how the mountain higher ups would feel about it though.

I think your second sentence is a bit false as I'm sure some of these kids that are smaller or less experienced would indeed not hit some of the rails if they were all set up urban. Or if they did we'd need a revolving fleet of ambulances up there. In all fairness we are a week in with 4 or 5 features. BB is an intermediate park. If cascade was set up like those lips all season I could understand this level of criticism. I'll check back in tomorrow before I head up there in case there is any other posts to bring to the table.

Smaller lips, closer to an urban set up, got it. I'll bring it up to the captain. You gotta realize though that it is no lie when I say a lot of our client do like the ride on. I watched at least 4 or 5 kids no older than 11 last time I was there lapping the park and hitting the dfd consistently, and I mean these kids were no more than 3.5 feet tall. Just cause you wanna pop onto the rail doesn't mean everybody does.Lets use these two threads to work on more consrtuctive criticism and less lame put downs that are quite laughable at best. Cute dog though. I'm on your side trust me man. I like to see everyone having a good time and enjoying the park. Trust me I ain't working there for the paycheck alone, and I sure as heck ain't 16.I enjoy the behind the scenes work and helping improve the mountain as best we can. the less hate you throw around the harder I'll work to make the changes you are looking for.I mean if BC had their way they probably wouldn't want us even posting here. I'm working hard here to not post in my normal sailor tongue in reply to some of your "helpful" posts.

I think johnny is right to some extent, I mean everybody prefers things a different way, for instance I personally don't mind a little teeth if she's nice about it. Digging out the rails though i can understand you making a stink about and I'll work on it my first rake run tomorrow at 2pm. Hope to see you there luminajatalatia, stop in the yurt and say hi, I'm on black skis with a white NS sticker.
-
Wonderful thread. Are you actually comparing a bunch of pros on a personal snake run to a resort park run that caters to all levels of riders?? From watching folks ride our lips I can tell you that it seems many of the riders up there indeed do like to hit some of our rails straight on and also from the side. That dog appears to be some kind of lab or retriever, I find it hard to believe it can find it's food bowl in the same spot day after day.
-
Oh come on, the lip is big I'll give ya that, but to say you need extra speed is a little funny. The only kids I see having speed troubles are ten and under going in at about 3 mph. Jumping down on top of the rail?? not quite sure what you mean, are you saying there is too much pop?? or are you saying you'd like to see the rail higher than the lip. I don't plan the park but I assume the more mellow rails are generally built ride on due to the numbers of non pro level riders that we get. some of these kids can't pop enough to clear the 2 inches from the lip to the rail. Can't see the beginning of the rail from the beginning of the lip?? I don't know about that, that lip is max 2 ft high, if you can't see over that from the inrun I'd guess you're 3 feet tall??? I take it you're saying you'd like to see that large lip cut down by what?? like half???? Now we're getting somewhere though, some of us actually read and respond to these post and spread it around the crew, so post up some ideas of how you WOULD like to see the lips rather than what you see wrong with them. We'll take it into consideration and bounce it around the yurt and you might actually see some changes toward what you so desire. Not sure what you're going for with that last statement, it seems you think I'm making excuses though and I was doing nothing of the sort. Just stating that I though a previous post was incorrect to say that we had just as much snow down as boulder who has been blowing and open for weeks now.

Can't wait to hear this story. Believe it or not lazy and worthless isn't the worst thing I've heard. I don't mean to speak for everyone on crew but I'm more than willing to hear criticism. If you'd like to see something adjusted or have some suggestions stop by if you see us working a feature or standing outside the yurt. We don't frown upon suggestion or talking to all you kids. Calling us lazy and worthless on the internet isn't going to solve anything though. I don't see how anyone can say we have more snow to work than BB right now though.

^ Three if you count the big boss man. Also I'm not sure who jib honk is. ^^ Yea I was really surprised people weren't trying to hit it already when we opened on Sunday ha. Jibber kids at that mountain are relentless, sometimes they try to find ways to hit the rails that are stored off the side of Black Bear and Cascade. We even have had kids take it upon themselves to drag features out onto the trail, we've never pulled a pass but that time it was close.

Haha not a clue, i wouldn't expect it to be there for long though. I think it was put there for some reason then they were waiting for some snow to move it cause it's easier to slide than carry. I indeed did a double take as well though when I was riding up the e chair the other day.

I could hear the guns on this morning when I left my house. Think Tom said something about more features being a possibility late this week. Theres hardly enough snow on the trail to push up a lip. If I heard correctly the guys on morning shift actually hand built that lip for the skate rail on new years eve just so we could get at least one new feature in. Can we maybe get like a week of operations in before you guys start slamming BC for not having a good enough park? I mean we opened Sunday for heavens sake, super cold temps have me guessing you'll be seeing lots of snowmaking and some changes to the park soon.

Not sure as I've never tried to stay that late. Last time I was in there was a weeknight though and they called last call around 10ish. I don't think trails end is open after 10pm but again I don't go to either often. I might swing in there at 10 tonight and try out that american poutine, who knows, I'm working 14 hours today so I might just head home and crash. At least I'll get to see the fireworks at 945.

Hey is spring wants to charge people to ride on dirt and death cookies more power to em. Whats comical is that you're comparing the two and talking crap on bear for opening a day later. In the immortal words of Garfield.....Big fat hairy deal. Go ahead and go ride spring tomorrow, then hit up bear Sunday and tell me it isn't night and day of a difference. Thanks for the BC hate though, you and Winter have been slacking in here lately.

What's one more day really?? Wonder if they'll open sunday, I'm scheduled that morning. From the look of the webcam there aren't even any features out so I'm sure they need a little more time. They'll probably blow heavy again tonight and then pick up some natural tomorrow as well. Should be a good opening and still a week or two ahead of last year.
