Absolutely phenomenal conditions today on Lehigh and Exhibition. No mashed potatoes , no creamed corn, no dirt, no slush..... just great snow. Today's surface conditions where the same as any 20 degree day in February. Great riding again and again and again.... under blue skies too. JADIP at JF

Actually this is great news. The base is 10 feet deep in some areas so pushing it around to the melt off areas works out fine.
-
no shit You got that. right. Sunday I'll be wearing a red ski patrol jacket with ROBERT2 PASR lettering.
-
Nothing wrong with making movies. I'd like to see more full trail movies....of the black diamonds where I don't ride.

Due to the warm temps and rain and melt off the groomers had to PUSH the snow around to get 100 percent coverage on Lehigh today so to my surprise I got 5 inches of white fluffy powder to play on today. Exhibition is still looking good too. No rain... cloudy until 2 pm...then blue skies, JADIP at JF

Big Boulder is a great example of quick set concrete boiler plate ice. The temperature can hover just above freezing all day or during a snowstorm and then the sun sets about 5PM and the temperature drops and fast. All the little footy craters and ripples in the snow then freeze solid by 7PM. I taught snowboarding lessons to school bus loads of kids on that stuff. You had to watch every step or else you'd trip bad. The bottom line here is that surface is terrible and needs to be reshaped the next day and the JFBB groomers have done a great job with making great rideable snow EVERY day.

You guys won't be slumming it my way. I'll be at the tow rope ski school area. Not real likely I will get anywhere near where you guys will be skiing with my noobe lesson. I want to know how "THE MEETING" goes with SP on Saturday before wearing any PASR identification on Sunday.
-
I've been asked to assist in a lesson this coming Sunday at Blue. Should I leave off all PASR identification? Will I be harassed shitless by SP if they think I'm with you guys? I don't want to get kicked out while teaching a lesson.

Yes... but much firmer.... like snowcones. Its funny we are working up ways to describe the surface now..at the end of the season. Has anyone made list of the snow / food descriptions? When its really cold we have solid ice groomed to be corduroy... but sometimes the groomers grind up the snow and create a chalky very fine powder. Depth of that powder varies...sometimes an inch or two. A little warmer... and we get snowcone granular on hardpack. sometimes an inch...sometimes 5 inches. Warmer... like this week.... and we get slush..BUT its not like city slush...messy wet crap... is almost dry..... doesn't melt away...doesn't wet you when you sit in it to strap in.... and we start naming it stuff like mashed potatoes.... creamed corn...apple sauce. Either way you spoon it out.... it has been VERY rideable and a joy all week. I didn't get rained on yesterday or today and both days the surface was great to play on.

That's cool. You didn't say much about what you are looking for in a season pass ski resort when you started this thread. You just said you may get out this weekend. The bottom line when choosing where to get your season pass is will you get to use it or will it be a waste of your money. JFBB opens first, closes last, and makes sure you have something to ride on when you get here. I go 5 days a week from open till close of the season and choose JFBB over Blue while the boys at Blue cry and whine about Blue's conditions and SP staff. Camelback is a net for New Yorkers and you can have that mess. Its just not for me.

With the 26 degrees at dawn we got some really good surface back after grooming. It was a bit soft by 2PM ...like your boot would sink in 5 inches when you walk...but forget walking...go ski. Its wet and not sticky.... and no rain all day here. There's about 5 inches of snowcone snow everywhere. It kicks up a hell of rooster tail when turning hard. JADIP at JF

Whats to get? We do not get great snow all that much so we have to groom everyday everywhere and today's snowfall is usually total crap to ride on the next day so YES grooming after a storm is GOOD. Last year we had 6 inches of snow fall in two hours and everyone was stoked big time. Within 2 hours we had ripples , ruts, bumps, pounded in all the hills and then all riding sucked for the rest of the night because it was like driving a car with no shocks on a country road. The next morning...all that snow was groomed flat into cord and rode great all day. Good grooming is THE reason to ride in PA.
-
Why did you say that? I always drink and ride. I always carry V8 juice cans and bottles of water when I ride.

THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST TIME of the year to ask the question of WHAT IS THE SNOW LIKE. Don't base your decision about what mountain to buy a season pass...based on conditions this week or this weekend. In the last 7 days we have seen huge weather changes. Last Monday we had blizzard whiteout conditions with 6 inches of fresh powder. The very next day...ALL that powder was groomed flat into really nice riding corduroy. We had temps on the 20s most of last week and this week is 50 degrees in the daytime and 20s at night. This makes for some really bad news for grooming but you may be surprised. Tomorrow morning at 6AM the temperature in BLAKESLEE PA will be 27 degrees. That means the snowpack will firm up real nice and be groomable. We are in a warm spell that is cooling by the weekend so winter isn't quite over yet. Friday is going to be high 30s and low 20s which means riding conditions should be excellent all weekend. Today the surface was soft and rode like last Monday's 6 inches of fresh snow. Totally mindblowing considering it just rained here for 3 days straight. I expected nothing but blue ice everywhere today.
-
yep soft fluffy snow today. 6 inches deep ...better than last monday's snowstorm conditions.
-
soft fluffy hero snow everywhere. A bit wet and nothing sticky made for great riding. The rain stopped at 11am and blue skies seen at 2pm. JADIP at JF

Good Solid Skiing Ski acronyms.... like SOS is Sit On Skis Its a student rating system we use when teaching. Used for water skiing lessons also.

Was tubing cleaned up or was the massive junkyard from the cardboard race still on the tubing hill? -
NOT so insanely crowded on the slopes

No crowds on the hill. -
Do any of you people actually ski? I'm talking about you people writing comments here in the forum about a place you did not go to on a day that actually had good skiing, no lift lines, no crowds on the hill, and one hell of really cool party going on at the same time.

I got there at 11AM after waiting 10 minutes crawling in that line of cars. The Timmy bus driver was pretty freaked out but it turned out the JF employees did a great job directing traffic and kept us moving all the way to the front door. One thing that caught my attention was how the lodge really was not jam packed like last year on the first floor. The party seemed to stay on the tubing hill and the E2000 bar until 3PM. I got lots of movies today. It will take a while to edit and post here. The snow was slushy by 2PM and slowed down a bit. The hills had LESS people than we had for Presidents day weekend. That was a very pleasant surprise. I never had to wait to get on the lift to ride Lehigh. A live band started playing in the first floor bar at 3PM and I had a great time. JADIP at JF
