  1. The rain passed before dawn here and they did a great job grooming. The surface was a bit mushy to step in but rode like the wind.... fast and furious. The 50 mph winds knocked over a few people but hey.... they are skiing...they expect to fall down here. The snowmakers are getting ready with the big guns. Winter is back. JADIP at JF
  2. Gate keeper at the entrance to the parking lot will be handing out vouchers.
  3. Floyds had about 16 inches of fresh blown powder on it. You should get right on that stuff and quick. Richard.
  4. The thunderstorm is my only concern.... and its supposed to be gone by 1AM. the forecast says no rain 1AM to 4AM then rain and snow showers all day long. The only reason they will close the lifts is lightning. So I'll be there tomorrow. How about you? AND just how accurate is the weather report anyway? We were supposed to get rain yesterday and today but had nothing but blue skies until 3PM. I had 2 of my fastest rides of all time today in 68 degrees and blue skis and sunshine and wouldn't have gone at all if I listened to the weatherman. GO ski.
  5. JF and BB say they have not ever closed due to winds. We are looking at thunderstorms maybe tonight but not after dawn tomorrow.
  6. WOW!!!!! Nothing sticky. Blazing speed and great control. JADIP at JF JF says they are going to refresh the snow as soon as the temp drops back to the teens Friday night. Sunscreen and thunderstorms break will be over by the weekend. There's still 100% coverage now but a few areas could use new snow.
  7. Just was wondering if the ONLY time you come to play is if snow is falling from the sky. We get a few inches once in a while around here that makes sticky NO GO SNOW and its the only time I come in off the snow when we get that kind of snow. If they groomed the trails before 3 and snow falls all day then you won't get to slide. You just stick in that kind of snow. If you want to play in the park in soft stuff you will be very limited. Very few days of hero snow in the Poconoes. As I do go every weekday, for 3 years now, I can tell you from my experience that we have had less than 5 days of sticky gluey snow this year and the rest of the time nice fast rideable snow. Thats the snow, I can't tell you about the hits in the park. I don't jump shit. I'm too old for that game.
  8. Discount group rates by the car load. Hey, there's an idea. Last March I posted a helmet cam of JF that showed great snow and totally empty ski resorts... no lift lines, no tripping over in gapers. Go grab a friend who never skied and take them out in March. Its a great time to learn. No heavy pressure suits to battle the cold air. Sunglasses instead of goggles. Sunscreen and wet T-shirts.
  9. Its all cool. Anything to get the kids out to play is fine by me. I was just making the safety jab at the rails in the middle of the hill. I saw a girl with a broken arm on Friday night and it wasn't pretty. And she was no noobe. No one will ever dispute the fact that snowboarding saved the failing ski industry 15 years ago. Snowboarders are a whole other breed of rider than skiers were back then. Skiers would only come out to ski on "good" snow in great weather. Snowboarders didn't give a hoot if it was 5 degrees or 50 degrees, raining, ice, no snow...just mud... they didn't care. They would slide on anything. This really confused the ski resorts. They have to make the decision to close the lifts at some point on very rainy days because history showed nobody skis in that much rain. Boarders would buy lift tickets even if the mud was shin deep on the sides of the white strip of snow and when they slid into the mud they looked like frogs hopping out of a pond. Skiers complained a lot about mud all over the lift seats ruining their onesies. Anyone who likes to grind rails can play that game but I'd like BB to keep Tannebaum an open hill and not a bonk yard. It was a nice hill to lap all night. You guys know me by now. I'll slide on anything except sticky NO GO snow. I'll be wearing rain slicker pants tomorrow so I stay dry when sitting on the puddles on the lift in the rain. If it rains. No rain here all day even though the weatherman said it will rain.
  10. What ...you thinking safety is an issue? Who's idea was it to put a handrail in the middle of a ski hill? This is nothing less than darwinism at work.
  11. It was sarcasm. Not a trail report. Seems every post I make has some GSS How was Floyds post. Everybody knows I lap the blues daily for 3 hours and NEVER go to floyds so GSS is just being a dick asking how was Floyds every day. So ... How was floyds .... will ALWAYS get answered : 16 inches of powder..... just for GSS.
  12. Floyds had about 16 inches of fresh blown powder on it. You should get right on that stuff and quick.
  13. Awesome riding conditions today. Surface was very fast under blue skies and sunshine. 38 degrees at noon made for bare skin and sunscreen today. JADIP at JF
  14. I went quad skating at the local JT rink with my daughter and granddaughter last week. I got the old fashion quad skates at Models in the mall last March... walked across the street to the Arm Navy store and told the kid at the skateboard counter I wanted to buy 8 sets of precision bearings and soft polyeurathane wheels to replace the crap on the new cheap skates. He said he didn't thing we could that that here. I told him to get his boss.... I thinks he's Larz..... who promptly said nooooooooooo problemmmm.... old school... that's how we used to do it a long time ago.... and set me up nice with warp speed street skates. I then strapped on in the Red Lobster parking lot and played in the mall lots in between the mounds of snow left over from the winter. Blue skies, sunny day, and old farts skating in the mall. I bought heelies in a mall in Las Vegas a few years ago. I still haven't figured out how to ride them though. And that was yesterday...right?
  15. Ah yes... very descriptive and entertaining. But I don't write a trail report for entertainment. I write a trail report so anyone close enough in a 2 hour drive radius can decide to hit the slopes tonight at BB. My 3PM JF trail reports are pretty consistent with what you will find 2 hours later at BB. Even during the storm this week.... I said it snowed all day a real wet sticky NO GO SNOW. Sure enough.... other trail reports said it was slow riding at BB that night.
  16. Today riding surface was almost exactly like yesterday. Today we had blue skies and fast rides in 8 degrees. JADIP at JF
  17. I moved here before I stopped driving. Houses here cost $50,000 back then.
  18. Looks like I'll be at Blue on Friday night. Whats Blues policy about bringing gear into the lodge? Can I bring my snowboard and clothes into the lodge if the snowboard is in a snowboard bag? I'm not coming by car so I have to arrive with a backpack and a board bag and figure I have to find a locker for my bags and street clothes. How much is a locker? Do all the lockers get used up on weekends? If I have to work with tools adjusting bindings will anyone give me a hard time for bringing the board to the locker to work on it with tools I leave in the locker? I wore out my bindings... ratchets failing...... and my new bindings aren't the same so I'm having trouble adjusting my ride.... so I'm turning screw drivers a bit more. I don't carry screw drivers on the hill.
  19. There's lots of older skiers. I've met only a few boarders that are older than 50.... and very few over 60. You make your fun where you can when you can. I moved here and raised kids here. You can spend your whole life holed up in some suburb or city counting the days until your next vacation or you can bug out and go where you can have some fun and fitness activities the rest of your life. It was a major life event to move 100 miles away from "home" and work but it was more than worth it for my whole family in the long run. You say I'm lucky now but I didn't always have this luck. I did my time and got out of the rat race.
  20. Welcome to my world JFBBMomski !!!!!!!! I've been trying to tell people this all winter. Midweek never has any lift lines and you rarely have to share a hill. You can just go ski laps again and again and again. Grooming has been aces all winter no matter what the weather dumped on us. I guessed with so many great trail reports from me out of JF nobody believed me anymore. You picked a great day to ski. I hope you get more like today.
  21. Complete turnaround from yesterdays crazy glue sticky wet snow. Surface was dry an slick and very fast. Sky was clear and blue all day with temps in teens and 20s. JADIP at JF
  22. Floyds had about 16 inches of fresh blown powder on it. You should get right on that stuff and quick.
  23. Been snowing all day here. The accumulation is about 4 inches of wet sticky powder. Real slow ride. Real soft safe ride for new skiers. JADIP
  24. The entrance hill to Janes sort of slides downhill to the left so in order to go straight and get to the first drop off hill with speed on Janes you have to maintain toe edging.....which makes that tilted look. The camera comes with a velcro strap that fits around a helmet, or leg, or arm. Its an ATC 2K action cam.
  25. Wow. Thats messed up. You got to it, viewed it, then it stopped working. I'll see what I can do. I've never done anything with youtube before this post. And no...HD isn't going to happen. And no... it was strapped to my shin just on top of my boot so the rocking is me. I did attempt to quiet my rides to the minimal amount of buttering and more carving to keep the camera steady. I usually get 4 ribbon turns down lehigh when at top speed. That's a pretty steady carve. Last year the helmet cam was wicked shaky so I figure I'd move the camera to another strap point and see how the video came out. I thought this would do it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpW9cBDkqt8
