  1. We have been first on and nipples has been last off. The skiing season is here now, so I don't have a computer as close as during the off season. Catch me on the slopes or at a comp. Things get crazy in January.. I can't wait for Breck in Feb - I need a break already!
  2. CB started blowing on margies about and the trail left of that at about 8pm
  3. BTW - I asked today for the coaches to teach some basic stretching excercises. I was told that it was nothing unusual " just do the basics" this was by one of those ultra certified whatevers.. WTF - my kids run hard an hour before CAT team and up until 10pm - they are walking funny and stiff as a board. There are basics that are being over looked.. Forget all the drills. Go fast, be good, have fun! It is not in each individuals hands when you are 10 years old. I am concerned that my kids are locking up, the growth in their legs at theietender age is very noticible, they need to be taught to stretch.. Call me a little league dad or what ever. By the way.. Doesn't our number one skier still ski in the back seat?
  4. Well - we got our gate and starting house fixes. Everything is good and on track. I should start a new thread, because I just finished reading Go fast, Be good, Have fun. what revelation..
  5. The Dew Challenges were fun - we got lots of free stuff and got a chance to get some race gate jitters under our belt. Ridge beat me on the JF - 45 second course by a full 5 seconds!! I got silver in a field of 12 - I wish Ski999 had raced, it was kind of embarrassing to get a medal since I don't consider myself a racer. Ridge got a chance to see who his competition is for his J4 race on 1/7 - lost by 2 tenths of second to a 12 year old kid 6 inches taller than him with hair on his face. Camelback was different format with a dual 25 second course. Ridge only beat me by one second this time I got a silver again and Ridge got the Gold - both of us had a field of about 12. Our own skidude won his division and the fastest time over all. Thanks again to Mountain Dew and the bevy of Sponsors that promote this form of recreational racing. It was fun and pleasant way to spend a day on the slopes. The caveat was that Vokly has them all riding on Karmas and they give away little H2 Die cast Mountain dew Hummers!! Since the finals are on the first of april = it might be a serious possibility to go up there. Good times.
  6. Her name is Mary, and she is MUCH more attractive in person! <- and when I do that, some red headed guy that is always with her looks at me cross eyed
  7. I hope they have some snow by now. The summer camp scene is where it is at. Good luck and reprt back when you can!
  8. It is good.. there is a small group, but there is some talent amongst them.
  9. I agree!! Props to BC- I think it was a productive meeting, it certainly showed me the commitment of the staff at BC to continue to progress. I think the beginner park should be open to everyone.. The next level park should be accessed via a passs. Face it, as time goes on parks will be regulated whether we like it or not. It will become more regimented like racing. That is my prediction. I could be wrong.. Requiring everyone to view a safety video will allow everyone to use the video as a point of reference when the need arises to advise someone who is sitting in a blind spot, not calling drop ins, etc etc
  10. Uhhh - She said "thanks for the input".. <snicker> Come to CB... Message some of the active members for a personal tour.
  11. Look for a little kid pulling some sick tricks in the park with PASR stickers on his helmet. He will/ can hook you up with the whose who at CB. I am in a odd looking bonfire jacket on a pair of twins. There is a huge contingent of PASR folk at CB -- Find nipples in one of the two parks and he will point you
  12. It was crowded after lunch. I am getting used to human gates. the lines were never more than 5 minutes, but I ski single and all the lifties know me
  13. WOW! WTF! we wondered what happened to you, that sucks man. Heal up! How did you come out of the ski? I am going to start a thread on the CB board - I feel strongly that the employess should park some where else. we arrive shortly after 7:30 am every morning and the first lot is used by employees. A staff member at CB had the audacity to chastise me for parking in the handicap spaces. NOOOOOOB - I tried to explain to him that the signs hadn't been taken down from the summer. He acted like I was stupid or something.. He was so upset that he wasn't parking closer that he wanted to continue on about the blue stripes. Too bad I didn't get his name tag. CB is trying to get the employees to be more friendly. He is one free lift ticket that needs to be lifted
  14. I got 20 runs this morning before 10am - it was super fast and a lot of fun before the crowds got there
  15. I hate to hate on you but you have to know that pic was taken at the second gate. It was a tuck course. Yeah, word, where were all you wanna be racers huh? Naaaa, its was all good, props to Dew. Like Nastar they are encouraging people to get out and turn some gates.. What the hey happened? We saw you register and then... wha happened? gotta catch up on these threads. By the way, the indications are great that Ridge as a First year J4 is going to be do well.. I ordered new skis for him today..
  16. They are at 4.5 now.
  17. Uhhh, I am 44 years old have two kids, 3 houses an ex-wife and all I do is ski and promote snow sports. I can call her or what ever you need... No worries ! Moms are like that, that is their job..
  18. THEN WHY were you bad-mouthing the Nastar courses last season as being flat, easy... when I was posting Ridges progress through the season in that program. You said that the real guage of how good a racer he is, is to enter the USSA program.. Now you are down playing the signifcance of the J4's
  19. yeah, I know what you are saying. I need to tighten them up.. It was still an awesome moment, the recovery on one ski made it that much better.
  20. The C box? We didn't go over to Laurel. Will check things out again today.
  21. You make harsh inflammatory comments and then don't back any of them up with any substance. Oh my god, ski999 has spoken, bow at the feet of the righteous.. hahaa Exactly, what I am saying. When the fun/interest is gone, it is gone. The kid wants gates, there is absolutely no harm in getting some gates out early when our season is so short that has been explained to me in rational terms. They go through numerous daily drills, even contradictory ones. They just dont do any "race course" drills as of yet. I am trying to but we haven't seen any this season. Here again, I can't thnk of any sport that doesn't do some practice on the "field" once the season starts. I have a feeeling that it may be that setting up gates is too much work for the volunteer staff to be bothered with. you talk singular. I think his regular coach is now done with soccer and hopefully he is there today. I like Keith, I hired him last year for 3 privates with Ridge for starting house drills. Nobody likes to questioned, that is human nature. I can't see what hasn't been done, nor can the racer. When does that improvement show? The ski training day is long, No one yet has come up with a valid argument of why drills are not applied to a course. Ridge wants to do some NASTAR races to compare against last year. I don't blame him and there is certainly no harm in it. NASTAR gave him the determination to try and do better each run. Somehow, I wish Icould meld the 2 programs together for him. My second guessing is here, online, so far. The only thing it might hurt is general interest for parents contemplating joining a team. uh - he told me something a little different yesterday. Agreed, he is a tough read. I think overall he is really enjoying hanging out with friends that share a same interest. At the same time - He/I just want to know why no gates have been set up.. It has been explained that when they are ready??? Because the coaches determine when is not a good answer, there should be reasoning behind a training program. Jeez, I thought this was a race team, not a development team.
  22. WOW.. all of this started because I don't understand why there have not been any gates set up yet. The only answer I hear is because that is what the coaches want. Shut up and listen to the coaches. I am sorry if everyone here who has responded does not respect my lack of understanding or buy in at this point. I have been mum on the USSA/PARA/CAT program at CB up till now. We have been going to CAT training for 2 months. How long is the race season? Ridge's first race that he can enter is at JFBB on 1/7, his last if he qualifies for the Derbies is at 2/25 - 6 weeks long. Thats it.. After the derbies in February, there are no other races for Ridge. Does CAT practice even continue after the Derbies? You know as a parent, I don't know.... I guess in retrospect, had I known what I know so far, I would have mapped a different course for Ridge to race in since I thought the CAT, USSA, PARA was about getting into going down a hill, around some gates, as fast as you can. That has yet to happen after 13 days on the snow. Stay big picture for second and look at it this way. More than half way thru the training/racing/CAT Team season and no gates have been run. That is all I am saying. Positive or negative attitude, you decide, he loves to go fast and I simply trying to provide the ways and means for him to do that. I pay for the coaching with the intent that Ridge is going to be racing, I feel that the information of what they are coming back with, is developmental and ski schoolish. I expected more, oh well. BTW Nipples is on the CAT team for different reasons than Ridge. He too, is fast but has no desire to race, Ridge also loves jumping in the park and is now on his brothers twins after ski school errrrr team practice for the enjoyment of being on the snow, but no desire to do freestyle, however there are indications that that may change.
  23. I got the one he landed on film, what was really cool about that is one ski released on the landing and he held it together and stayed up on the one ski.
  24. Coaching is one thing.. talking so much that my kid makes a comment about it is another thing. I could care less about methods, this is not a knee jerk thing, it has been building.. You don't know Ridge, he doesn't complain, I do. Schnapps gives me a headache, not skiing, not working, and triptofan (or what ever is in the turkey) listening to gripes about CB has got me riled. Don't forget guys, I openly admit that I am no expert skiing coach, but I am an expert observer and problem solver and director to those solutions needed.
  25. That sucks man.. Thanks for the report! keep them coming. Ridge, Nipples and I will be up to JFBB on Tuesday.
