Never a dumb question. I would go to a shop and give them all the information of what you want to do when you are skiing and "hopefully" they will guide youin the right direction First guess would be 150 - 160cm r14 depending on ability and aspiration

wanted: anyone who wants to carve this weekend

Look for the Camelback Ski team jackets and just walk up to them and ask where Ridge or Nipples is. Tell them you are from PASR and everything will be great from there. -

We will be there Sunday - track down the race team and ask for Adam or Ridge. -
well then, did you see me on Sunday get into "it" with a ranger and the <cough> park guy? well then, did you see me on Sunday get into "it" with a ranger and the <cough> park guy?

My kid has been on almost half of the above listed and absolutely loves his Fischer World Cup Sidecut radius of 11 (slalom ski) - I would prefer that he be on a sidecut of 14 meters, but I let him go with his choice. He is an advanced expert at the ripe old age of 11 yrs, 1 month approx 90 lbs. Ski999 is 10x the expert that I am with gear, however I see the beauty of my sons' skills progression by use of "laying over" the slalom ski on GS turns at high speeds. In your case, with inexperience a factor; I would encourage the 14 meter sidecut in a ski with a graphic, "Just like Bode has"

hahaha... Yeah - I am a huge fan of the Nastar program - no doubt! Want me to start raving how much fun ski racing in the nastar program is and how I think every other program stinks? naaaaaa BTW - ridge and nips did have a good time with the CAT team this weekend. Look for the race team practicing. My kid ridge, is a lot of fun to get some runs in with in the afternoon. I can't keep up with him, maybe you can! I will be incognito next weekend for some politcal reasons. Ridge is pretty easy to pick out as is skidude.

What he said, was that we were told that it was ridiculous to be starting that high up to get the speed to clear the table in a beginner park. HUH? I really think the jump was built so that it couldn't logically be cleared, that it is safer with everyone landing on the table. Just the basics... move out of the center of the trail. simple basics would solve this problem.

Hey, welcome LIBERTY people!! The Corporate group that ties you, RT and Whitetail together is awesome with thier progression of the parks. We will be at RT a day or 2 this year and hope to hit Liberty and Whitetail while there.

It's a good thread. I have been skiing on a really light weight Mid-fat Volkyl Twin (karmas) that is just impressing the hey outa me. each day on them gets better.

Camelback is going to let sponsors of the race team put thier logos on the stuff they donate.

The Racing Director said Nastar will be open Christmas week this year at CB.
-
So Bear wins!! On opening day, everything was open, except for 2 runs. Who can say that? LOL!! he didn't last. He packed up his bags and headed south!
-
That is where you are WRONG!! To safely clear the table at CB, The front of the line should be at the point where you need the speed to clear the feature. When the in run is clogged halfway down with inexperienced riders , then they should yield to the uphill rider. You are right about discouragement and disrepspect. That is the whole point. I had riders, just flat out ignoring me as I was telling them to "hold up" so that the kids 150' above them could drop in with out being cut-off. Basics..... Look up before starting down.

Hey CBFS!! Welcome to PASR! It was good to meet you this weekend - let's work together on the park. The kids with the skills know what is up and what is right. Someone has the park crew's hands tied. We need to find out who that someone is. I spoke with an "expert" later on, I don't know if you noticed. But he is the one who led me on to the insurance thing about in-runs and setup and overall park layouts. I feel strongly that CB will be doing their best to get caught up with the times. It's just that there SEEMS to be some old school insecurities jamming them up from being sensible about the layout. It was their first weekend. It was ridiculous to be reamed for the positive nature of what I was doing for you 8 guys. I would love to have video of what I was having to do so that you guys could hit the jump. The most ironic part of that whole situation is that everone I was "holding up" was in the middle of trail just below the rainbow. If any one was really trying that rainbow they would have been knocking them over. The basics, you don't stop in the middle of 2 features with your back to a huge outrun!! That Park Crew on Sunday was way too full of themselves, for sure

Opening weekend and the halfpipe was open. 2 boxes, 4 rails - and uh 2 extrememly dangerous useless 30' tables in a beginners park (some were saying 40') I am erring to the short side - who's idea was that? I was told numerous times by the park crew that their hands were tied and that they didn't like the set up either. Does CB's insurance company require the Park the staff to test the in-runs. It was one of the most stupid and subsequently dangerous set ups I have ever seen. Smart Style - respect gets respect - Those tables were built with careless abandon or puposely built so that they could not be cleared because the slope was clogged with riders who don't look up to see if anyone is waiting to drop in from the required distance to gap the table. Props to the crew on saturday who were filling the crater at the flat down all day long. Who were the idiots who were told to hollow out the cater more and subsequently sent a rider off on a sled shortly thereafter. And what is up with that flat down Park Crew, why was all of your time spent on that feature? Take some time with crowd control or put up a gate to the tables before someone decapitates someone because of people cutting people off. You cant hear "drop in" from 150' above where everyone congregates. There was a small group that had the skills to clear the jump and I was told that I could not get in front of the congregation to "hold" them for the more skilled riders anymore. When my racer, yes that's right, racer, tells me that the jump was (I forget the quote) - and gets "cut off" by a rider who tells me to "get out of the way". I am in the park doing what needed to be done for the safety of everyone including waving my arms around with poles extended. Nope not allowed to do that. SUNDAYS park crew were idiots. Saturdays' were cool and seem to know what is up. PARK PASSES PLEASE!!!!!!! Respect gets respect. Hopefully this message is taken as constructive critisism, it was written with that intent.

I wrote this message below on CB's board first this morning. Ironically, it appears what I experienced yesterday is a common proplem. The only solution is to have jumps with gates at the approximent distance neeeded. It bugs the hey out of my when the downslope of the landings unreachable unless you do cut off and go zipping by where the noobs think the drop in is. LOOOOOOOK UP before you complain someone is cutting you off. Chances are there are more experienced skilled riders waiting to hit a jump at the required amount of in-run needed to clear the feature. Here is what I wrote on the CB board:

uptight your way or else tookiehead would be more like it! Wait till you see our cowbell - it is authentic!! Cool story I will have to tell some time. Ok back on topic..... Ebay sucks and ski shops are the best of everything for everybody!

I was always a Ford fan... Now I support American General.. Uh.. I do have one of those british things, but that was present for a GF ... Hypocrit - no. I don't consider this a general topic about store types. I just love ski shops for everything they have to offer. BTW - if anyone is considering buying '06 gear. send me a message, let me see what price I can get you. I've done some favors for some people on gear that can not be gotten any cheaper online. I can't get Fischer except on line

Now see, that shows moral character.. Props to you! - watch how fast this thread gets off topic now

No biggie GP Rep.. It's not hostile.. yet.... It's one of those livley debates that frequently crops up. Some of us just can't help but to vent on the subject. Some of us think shops are great for the other stuff they do (benefits) besides sell stuff and others think online is great because they got a great (albeit undermining) deal. We all have diffferent viewpoints (obviously) driven from and for different reasons. I have 2 boys ages 11&12 and when we are not on the snow, a fun activity for us, is to go into these shops just to talk "shop". I haven't had a time that I can remember where it wasn't me saying "c'mon guys it's time to go" If the admission price was all the same of a movie, skatepark, tramp class, rock wall, or hang in the ski shop as a weekly activity, the ski shop visit would rank top. I believe in giving credit where credit is due and the ski shops give us way more than merchandise. It's all good.... For you On a more serious note though, If Walmart was cheaper than online, why wouldn't you buy there? Ski999 and Philbug would.

Maybe it is not online sellers vs shops. Maybe it is more the manufacturers/distributers at fault here. Mid season last year, I bought a particular set of skis that Ridge ended up not liking (cheaper from my shop than online). I went to sell them this year and ended up overselling them (4 buyers - 2 sets), no big deal - I'll just order 2 more. This year the ski is 1/2 the price as last year but they won't fill a little shops order of 2 pair. they dumped all 60 pair of 2 particular sizes to one on line seller. So that seller can do what? double the price! It may look like a deal but is not. Not on this particular ski.. Coupled with the problems I have had with on line purchases, this was just one more example of why I cringe with the thought of on line buying of ski gear. I have said several times there is a place for both sellers. I just feel strongly that the best value is to be made by taking the time to build a relationship with a shop. EDIT: Phil - You and I just said/typed the same thing LOL!! Root for the underdog!!

Exactly! They wonder why they lose members...

Adam - as a racer and promoter of the CB team, you should be more careful of your choice of words, I will chalk that up to a late night post. PASEF is truly non-profit with tax ID - I am not looking to get people to buy stuff for the the CAT team, I am simply trying to do my part in lieu of selling Bode Brewery gift cards and $5 pins - donations are tax deductable. The contacts made through networking, whether it be here or at a shop or a club is invaluable. There is no associated savings to me from online buying unless, as I have said, I am throw away demo tools for try before you buy purposes. I know it is kicking a dead horse. I think it is great that some people have gotten deals, I just think it would much better for the whole skiing industry in general, if the ski shops were not bashed on in anyway. They can offer so much more back.

Maybe I should remove it from the PASR Day Schedule? and replace with where?
