Back from fantastic conditions at Killington for the NextSnow 13 and under national comp. Nips skied his best had some epic wipeouts but over all did really well. The format changed due to 18 inches of snow on opening day. Judging turned out to be a bit wack. Nips qualified for bye into the finals by winning at Stowe early January however the weather changed all that. some how he was timed 6th fastest overall in a GS race but judged 40th out of 60 in carving skills. huh?........ beat............. oh well... a solid technical slopestyle run and 5's and 7's out of the 18' pipe wasn't good enough to be named to the "team" Off to tahoe next........

saw some euro carvers at killy - half of outer limits was groomed - haven't seen any of them except out west - pretty intense to watch. btw............ it was awsome freshies every day!!!

for those that enjoyed the park last year at shawnee, Talked to keith last weekend, he says he has aspirations of returning after he finishes school. I think he is nuts............. great for shawnee.. bad for everyone else.....

IT was not running at 3pm today either.

I know I am beating a dead horse. But "competition ready" pipe has been used in the CB literature several times. I don't need to explain every detail, on the other hand, if I do, maybe it will help shed some light on where parks are headed. My son has a big National comp starting tomorrow, he has 5's under his belt but really needed the time to get them dialed in for this comp. Pipe is his weakest category of 6 that these kids are judged on. I traveled from Waterville directly to CB for numerous logistical reasons. IF CB had not had a pipe, I might have explored other areas for him or even a whole different schedule. I try to make the best of what is available in our area in a ridiculously short season - available??? Try and understand this, in another business, some of the advertising tactics that CB uses are borderline deceptive. If I wanted to be really ignorant about this, I would pursue the facts, but I won't only because we are in such a minority. I only complain about the times we are there. If we go next year and experience what they advertise to be there and they don't deliver, then yes. I will complain.
-
Ok I think if you rate the parks in direct relation to the amount of park advertising comparitively you will see why we are so disappointed. I am a direct consumer of that advertising, you are not. You are right, because there is no good reason for the closure.
-
closed trails and park passes - is the only way to go. Seems to me that Blue has had enough races this years to permanently close that trail on weekends.
-
it's a well known stereotype that racers come across as owning the mountain and the park rats got attitude. Blue is training for the derbies this weekend.
-
naaaa.... Our season is too freakin short and our home mountain -------------------- fortunatly there are plenty of other options.

I dropped him off because they advertise that they have a 13 foot pipe. I made a decision to allow him to stay late to ride in the pipe that supposedly was going to be open to the public at 4pm by the marketing director, witnessed by the owner. As far as not getting the zaugg or the new pipe, that would have put them the same place as they were last year, I probably would not have gotten a pass if they had not hyped it so much preseason. as far as I am concerned, the pipe not being open is the same as not having one. Rebutted? Really.. I wish I had more time to spend on this.. You need to get out and see the park scene at other mountains to understand the total let down . ex. Today, 180 miles south in a field was 3 little jibs set up at the bottom of an embankment, kids were scroungin snow just to hit them. Lets try this analogy, what if you paid for a recreational event and just at the beginning of it they decided to close it for an unexplained reason. Would you just go home and get over it?

damn.......... for the second time... such a cool event...

Tom, maybe you missed this part. several management personel at CB persuaded me to hang in one more year at CB over the spring, summer and fall. They convinced me that CB would meet my expectations park wise. The indications with new zaugg and pipe, the CMS school, the park pass programs, the dozen "new"rails all preseason, were good and convincing enough for me purchase passes. When the season got here, I started realizing the mistake I made. Immediatly getting shut down with answers to my questions, like, "why not set out a few rails for the kids to hike on Laurel" The things I and numerous others complain about would not take very much effort or expense to remedy. It is the attitude at CB - you can even see a glimpse of it from some of the staff that posts here. Why do I go there? Maybe I just dropped my son off at Ski Team? Maybe I keep hoping that there will be a marked improvement, like steeper landings or something, just something. I go there to drop my kid off to train in the pipe for a BIG comp coming up. This is a great quote as an example. It's not just us couple of people who take the time to post on PASR, it numbers in the hundreds of people I talk to everywhere, all the time. I doubt not a single person on this board or anywhere covers the number of resorts or spends the number of hours on those slopes talking about the snow. Why is it the businesses fault? Because I was misled. A. I was lied to. B. The people doing the talking were lied to C. They are not capable of delivering D. They don't know how. I accept responsibility for my decision and I also accept the responsiblity to inform other consumers, which is what I am doing. CB can talk all they want about thier new pipe and how great it is however the truth about thier park and pipe is that they poor quality when it is open. I take responsibility to inform CB and others that they are not great and seemingly do not care about core snow lovers and only care about there weekend noob ticket. Elk doesn't advertise parks first and foremost. Blues snow quality has sucked nearly every time we have been there, which isn't that often. BB probably will not ever have a pipe - no ROI - I can understand that. BC is a fantastic little hill with a great Vibe. Shawnee is well, shawnee. Ok I'm done for now. Off to Killington and Whaleback on the return trip.
-
so wait... aren't you the one that says that since I don't approach CB with nicey nice talk that they won't respond? So if they didn't close the pipe cause I irritate them so much, they closed it because of why? Given the way CB responds to critisism, which reason makes more sense to you? Close the pipe because of light snow or close the pipe cause papasteeze's son was the only one in the pipe?
-
Why chill? people need to realize, especially in the park and pipe scene that CB, in spite of their printed literature - CB is not concerned about thier parks enough to have them properly managed. I contend that there is one person repsonsible for overseeing the park. Those actions, results and physical features speak much louder than their typed words. Hey Tony, why not come on here and defend yourself? Who is at fault for all the crap we have seen and experienced this year in the park, it certianly isn't skicb's fault? We are mostly weekend riders this season unless away at a comp - when local riding - those days are essentially training days or hanging out days for my son. I'll admit that we are in a very unique and small segment of the market. We bought passes to CB for the pipe and park as a convienance because I have a son who race trains out of CB. Those passes were a total waste of money. On the other hand, had I bought a ticket for him to practice in that pipe sunday night, I would be even more pissed than I am now. Why? I didn't buy $800 worth of passses for a pipe that isn't even open on a weekend. supportive for something that has been advertised in so heavily, for what purpose? Oh I get it, to sell more tickets to noobs who don't know any better.

Uh.. Ridge can't post here, he was banned for name calling I'll let him know of the well wishes. But yeah, in his first run of the season that I watched, he looked lazy coming around the gates, I was really surprised with a first place result. It's great that when he doesn't get tangled up with a gate he is producing smoking fast times. He still runs slaloms like they were GS courses but is continuing to improve. It really sucks that the racing season is only 6 weeks long this year, I think he is starting to enjoy racing again right about the time it ends. The Derbies are at Blue next weekend.

I saw a used set of lines with bindings in excellent shape for sale at the Loft. Justo is right though, get NEW boots that fit.. on the ohter hand at the Loft they have a consignement thing there, you could try on a bunch of what they have and see if something fits, learn a little about boot fitting first though.

More like steaming! where is she now?

Because, nips was using that pipe for training for a comp next Friday and there was another competition that my son was racing in that I wanted to be home for, on top of that there was a USASA pipe comp so the pipe was in the best condition than it has been all year long. Pipes are on there way out at most places because there is no ROI as CB is finding out. CB invested probably close to or over 300k in that pipe. I just happen to be the vocal one on this board about its past poor quality up to date, others in our area don't bother saying anything.

For those interested: Riders were divided into groups with a Salomon Pro as a coach to ride around and just hang out and throw down with each other. At lunch time each rider voted for 2 of there favorites to advance to the finals. The finals consisted of 3 runs in slopestyle with all 60 participants voting for thier favorite to be sent for a week to film with PB at Mammoth. NIps is in green pants with a Black Big Boulder Jacket. http://newschoolers.com/web/content/news/news_id/1379/ http://media.newschoolers.com/uploads/site.../JibAcademy.mp4

No big deal, except they probably closed the pipe on my son just to spite me and then use some lame excuse like snow for the reason to close a ski resort trail. I don't blast people in person, although I should have seized the opportunity, it's just not what is at mind when talking to people on the slopes. Oh.... and skicb, remember nips concussion last christmas week? what was it doing that day? Everything was open that night. Wasn't there a TV interview with nips on how he liked the rotten conditions because it keeps the crowds down, or something of that nature. You weren't closing then, why now? Your crew closed that pipe because there was no one that trail, no other reason. No different than closing that lift on super bowl sunday - CB is consistent in thier closures, in spite of the published reasons why - the one thing that is consistent, in all of the closures, was that demand was low. Get over yourselves and admit it - that is what you guys have been doing this year and until I start seeing lifts running without people on them or parks staffed with no one in them will I change my story.

http://campofchampions.com/galleries/video...ki2007&qt=1 Nips has a clip in this edit of spinning on a huge butter box - I think that is the type of box you are talking about, correct?

IWAS THERE! THERE WAS NO FOG DURING THE TIME THE PIPE WAS CLOSED UP TILL 7:30pm I could see the pipe clearly from glenn lodge --- understand? The only reason they closed the pipe is because of low usage, plain and simple.
-
The part "they" left out is that there was only nips in the park and that they were paying someone to tend a park that wasn't being used. Here again, most of your closure decision are justified on paying staff, you use safety as the reason, but that is far from the truth, if there were 25 kids hitting that pipe it would have been open and you know it. I made a decision saturday to drive home from New hampshire so that I could drop nips at the park to practice pipe before a comp in VT next week while I went to elk. I understand the USASA comp closure- you and art were both witness to that understanding, I asked when the comp was over and the pipe would be reopened and you said 4 or 5 and I conveyed that info to nips - CB has effectively created another rotten experience. I am sick and tired of the blullshit at camelback, you guys ripped me off by having me believe that there was going to be a quality park worthy of season passes, to make matters worse, you close the features because of what? I was there between 5:30 and 7:30 there was not any fog only fresh falling snow.
