I figured that I would wait until the bulk of the snow hit and the bulk of the people left. I was beat, so I slept in, skipped going to the Eagles game and watched it on TV, then went skiing from 6 to 6:45. It wasn't crowded at that time and the snow was pretty good, although slow.

I was told when they get a sustained cold snap, since there is more to cover.

Sunday Roll Call (11-18-07)
bigdaddyk replied to Mike Piccoletti's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
I'm probably going to go back to bed and get a few more hours of sleep, watch the Eagles game on TV, then go skiing in the evening. It's supposed to snow a little harder toward evening, so hopefully I'll time it right for the harder snow. -
That's why I didn't go today. I figured I would wait until later, when the lines won't be so bad.
-
I've been to both places, but don't do park stuff. By just looking at it, I think that Blue's park would be better. BB just spreads their stuff out onto differnet trails.

Mount Pocono is a higher location than Cambelback. It is usually 5 degrees colder at Mount Pocono, so that wouldn't be a good comparison.

Sunday Roll Call (11-18-07)

They will be open. They blew snow last night and according to the website, started blowing on boulder. They are also supposed to get 3" inches of snow. I might skip the Eagles game and go skiing instead. -
They were in good shape on Monday and Tuesday. I just checked the web cam and it looks like they still have a decent amount of snow, at least in the area on the cam.

Stowe and other VT resorts open this weekend....

Then get your ass to BB. I even went and plan on going Saturday, despite how much I bitch about the place. At least it's a lift serviced trail with snow. I was even debating whether to skip the Eagles game this Sunday . -
I'm off that weekend, so I should be there. Caring, SWM, who likes skiing, taking walks in the park, hanging out and having a good time. Likes all sorts of music. Looking for similar SWF 21 +.

Mittl Weg is the best for free skiing. It has the most consistant pitch. It is the trail on skier's left of BB park.

Full list of projected opening dates... pretty long and comprehensive
bigdaddyk replied to sexkitten's topic in General Chat
BB was open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I was there Monday and Tuesday and spoke to employees who said that they are open for the season, as long as it stays cold enough to keep the snow. They said that they plan on expanding to other parts of the mountain if the next predicted cold snap hits and will now blow whenever they get a chance. -
It was worth it for me, since I have a pass. I don't do any of the park stuff and I felt that there is plenty of room to move around the stuff. Besides, Bell has about the same thing opened as BB, except you have to hike at Bell. One trail is definately not worth me spending the gas money, for a three hour drive.

I was there Tuesday. They still have really good coverage. It was starting to harden up and get a little icy as the night went on, so the snow should stay around for a while. I think the rain actually compacted the snow, which would make it harder to melt. I have a feeling that this weekend will be a lot more crowded than last weekend, since the word has been out for a week.

All I was told was whenever we get a prolonged cold snap, since JF is bigger.

This is a typical La Nina pattern, which is what a lot of forecasters are predicting for this winter . It looks pretty good for Lake Harmony.
-
I estimated 400 since BB is listed as having 475 feet. Although I'm not the best at guessing vert for trails. My vert. is usually based on what the mountain is listed as being. If the whole mountain isn't opened, or I only do half way like sometimes at Bell, then I will estimate it based on the mountain listing.

I arrived a little late, at 3:30. I had to take one of the air conditioners out of the window...still have two more to do. There were a few people already on the snow and the bulk of the crowd didn't show until around 4:30 / 5. It wasn't too crowded, but it still was a good crowd, to make it worth while being open, in my opinion. Coverage was pretty good and there were only a couple thin spots...the lift area was the sketchiest. It took about five runs to get my legs back, but it was a lot quicker than previous seasons...I'm assuming the short off season might have helped. I spoke to a few employees and they said that after Wednesday, they plan on blowing again and expanding to other parts of the mountain, if the cold snap hits us as predicted. Sixteen runs were enough for me, so I left at 5:30. I ran into a few brief downpours on the way home. Hopefully it doesn't ruin things too much. I was glad that there was a decent amount of space around / between features, so it made it worth my while to go. Hopefully the rest of the season falls into place.

This time of the year, colder air seems to settle in the valleys, so I would think the NF would be a little colder than the top of the mountain. I could be wrong though, since I was never there, preseason.
-
I got mine the day I purchased it, last year....they re-used my photo that was already in the computer. I think as long as you go during business hours, you can pick it up.
-
I would think that they could blow on NF, since it is sheltered and the snow would keep, or is that were all the construction stuff is?
-
How's the coverage, depth wise. If I go, I think I'm taking my old skis.

He actually has "short" reports
