I asked an employee at a resort why they don't leave up the gates for the public to use. His response was liability. I just responded by asking, putting rails and all sorts of stuff all over parks isn't a liability?....I got no answer .
From that thread:
" I"m sure we haven't been perfect. We've probably made some mistakes we won't even realize until later."
Like making passholders get a ticket every time.
You can definately tell the difference, on days when there are temperature inversions. It's like going into a freezer, when you go off of the last headwall.
They've been working on that trail for about two "off seasons" now. It almost seems that it's not a big priority to open it, or the money might not be there to do the work. I wonder if some other group is holding it up???????
At this time of the year, I'd think that the only thing that could be accomplished would be new lighting. I'm still hoping and keeping my eyes open for some type of really cheap pass, to use as a second mountain.
JF is a good place, with a friendly atmosphere and does not get over-crowded. Like others have said, try out a bunch of places at least once, then decide where to get a pass. Who knows, maybe you will be surprised and like somepace different. It would be an injustice not to.
I don't see that happening, soon. Elk's locals seem to have accepted the slow lifts and actually seem to appreciate the fact that they help to keep the crowds away. You should at least have a couple more years until you have to worry about it becoming as crowded as Blue. I actually liked the fact that I could go to Sno at noon, and have fresh trails to play on.
That's been my argument all along. Ultimately, they will lose pass holders/ ticket sales from people who can only get out at night. I can live with keeping it the way it was this year. Don't mess with the trails that were free, this year. Once Sno Mt. gets all of their improvements done, that might very well be the place that I will go to....especially if I don't have a night option anymore.
