  1. It crossed my mind, but I hate driving real long distances, unless I don't have any options around here.
  2. Who's going? I plan on being there first thing. I took the week off of work and plan on hitting: Mon: Blue Tues: Blue or Elk (depends on winds...Elk is more sheltered by trees, for wind) Wed: Sno (was thinking about CB for civil service day) Thurs: Blue or Elk (depends on where I go Tues.) Fri: Eagle Rock, Blue, or Sno (haven't been to ER and wanted to try it, possibly). Sat: JF Sun. BB I was also looking at Greek Peak, but paying $54 for a 2.5 hour drive is a little much, at this point, since the locals have some discount days.
  3. Anybody hear if JFBB is going to blow snow, over the next few nights? I saw that Blue and Sno have on their websites that they plan to. The rumors at the beginning of the season were that they were not blowing during the day, so they would have more money to blow in March. I hope they do .
  4. I just saw that March madness starts this Monday....$25 tickets, which is a good deal.
  5. I pulled into slope side parking at 7:45am and booted up and it was 39 degrees. I skied out from my car onto the mt. and the snow was nice and soft. Sometime around 9 am, heavy snow showers moved into the area and the temps dropped around 5 degrees. The snow started to get a little heavy, from the temps dropping off. If the snow would have come in earlier, conditions would have remained better, throughout the morning, but overall, the snow on the slopes was in good shape. I left around 11:30, after eating, and it was still snowing and it was 35 degrees . It was also beach day, with pond skimming. I'd hate to be doing pond skimming today, but I guess that's part of the fun.
  6. One glimmer of hope is that the night time temps are supposed to get cold again. The hoses and tri-pod snow guns are still on the slopes at JF, hopefully they will blow more snow. For as cold as it has been, everything should be pretty solid and hopefully the rain will just run off.
  7. JF closes the East Mt. at 3:45. Elk closes the Lehigh trail at 3pm.
  8. I haven't heard anything
  9. It doesn't look too bad for the afternoon.
  10. WMMR must be a jinx. The weather was shitty and rainy for the last one, toward the beginning of the season .
  11. At least at JF, they put the course on the side of the trail and keep it open. I don't know if it's the optimal way to train, with other less experienced skiers around, but I'm not bitching.
  12. That can be expected for that time and day.
  13. The way it worked last year was when you bought a regular ticket, you would get a voucher every time you went from that point on, for half price tickets.
  14. Can you start using them now, or is there a date on them?
  15. Cost cutting????
  16. Really???? I was thinking the same thing....that they wouldn't start until it get crappier.
  17. I'll be hitting JF today...just got home from work and I'm tired . It takes twice as long for me to get to Blue.
  18. Is there going to be a time and place that everybody is going to meet? I'm still not sure if I'm heading down yet.
  19. I debated about going to BB Sat. morning. I always go to JF on weekends, because it is bigger, spread out more, and handles the crows better. I would imagine that the lift lines wouldn't take too long, since there are three chairs next to each other in the center. The triple on the far east might have the longest line, since there are two other chairs on the west side of the mt.
  20. I can't really answer for BB, but I would go first thing for freshness.

    Elk 2-23-07

I took a few more of the trees, but didn't take many more of the trails because I already have pics from them. I also got really into it too much to take pics .
  22. Montage ski area doesn't exist anymore . I assume that there are no ticket deals, like there were for JFBB?

    Elk 2-23-07

I pulled into Elk at about 8:15 am and had to park in one of the lower lots and take the cattle truck to the lodge area. It was 18 degrees and snowing. Matter of fact, it snowed the whole morning that I was there, at times the snow came down pretty good. There was already about three to four inches of fresh powder on the hill, from overnight, and it kept coming down . I concentrated on the side of the mountain serviced by the double chair...the quad just seems like it takes forever. The snow was nice and powdery and there were nice small piles to plow through on all of the diamonds...Susquehanna was especially fun. The slalom course was closed for collegiate races. I went down Lehigh a few time. Lehigh is a long narrow green trail, that apparently is only open when there is enough natural snow. I took a couple pics of the upper and lower section. The scenery on it is stunning. I would imagine it could be a little hairy on a crowded day, because it is narrow on the lower run. I got in 19 runs and called it a day at 1245 pm. I have to admit, this was by far the best conditions that I skied in this year. I talked to a few locals, and they said that the last storm, there was powdery snow ankle deep.
  24. It'll probably be a lot firmer, due to the cold.
  25. I arrived at BB at 8:45 am and there were already a few people on the mt. The snow was nice and soft and really carvable... and fast, first thing. I was kind of surprised that there were a decent amount of people there, since they normally open at 3pm...a lot of people must check the web page. A quick snow squall hit around 10 am. The merry widow and tannenbaum lift had a small line, when I was leaving at 11:30 and a few more cars started coming into the lot. Overall, it was a really good morning.
