You won't de disappointed...they might start to kick everybody's ass.

I pulled into the lot by NF and found out that the ticket trailer was closed and had to hike to the lodge. They told me that it was only going to be open on weekends and maybe not Sundays . I got my ticket and the wind was starting to die down, it was 11 degrees. This was my first time there...the place was amazing. There was absolutely nobody there. Almost all of the trails had freshly blown snow and on one far side of them, they were left ungroomed . Boomer had a load of powder on it and was not groomed, but wasn't bumped up. Smoke had some small bumps. I skipped WL, because I don't like moguls. I had freshly groomed cord on the blues the entire day. When I left at 4:30, the place looked like it was just groomed over...if you saw a picture of it, you wouldn't think it was mid-day. People are really missing out on a lost gem. I'm waiting to see how the snow holds up through March. If it isn't too bad, I'm definately switching my pass to Sno, next year. With the upgraded snowmaking and talk of a new lift, Sno has a really good thing going.

Long haul was closed today.

That's one of the reasons I go to other resorts during the week...fewer people. They'll never have "enough" people if they don't keep the lift open. Again, they are showing that they are a "fair" weather resort. They are probably losing customers, that would return when it is crowded. I haven't had any bad experiences there, but I don't go because of hearing all of the BS, like this.

Were you there today (Mon.)? How was it?

I'm looking at hitting Sno on Tuesday (2-6). I haven't been there in three years and it sucked when I went. Right now, I'm leaning toward the afternoon session. Although, Blue is still tugging at my strings. Wednesday is going to be a killer decision day (Blue, Sno, or Elk?). I haven't been to Elk yet this year, but the Blue 6-pack is calling and Sno might make it more difficult. Decisions, decisions

I might look into a different type of ski. My volkls are more for carving than speed....I also got them shorter than most people would prefer. Although, I have two seasons on them and they are still in excellent shape.

Sounds interesting. Hopefully it has a good serious turnout and people just don't use it for the tickets.

I was sort of wondering the same thing. I know the temps at JF are usually a little colder, which is one of the bigger advantages that JFBB has over most of the resorts.

Razors did ice up as the day went along. When I first got there, it was pretty nice, but the loose snow eventually blew off. It was definately cold. I heard them make frost bite announcements a few times. I definately layered up...probably one of the reason my aerodynamics suck so much. I thought it was pretty bad that you kept pulling away while coasting down tuts .

The only really bad spot in the place was the cattle shoot to the six pack...it was a sheet of ice. Toward the end of the afternoon, I came into it a little too fast and knew I wouldn't get stopped. I blew through it and almost ate the chair in front of me. I thought I was going to get to load a chair from the back side. I guess I wasn't practicing smart style .

I woke up a little later than expected and didn't get to the Boot until 12:45. It was 14 degrees when I pulled into the lot and windy as heck. I was a little surprised at how many people were there, considering the cold and wind. I wimped out and booted up in the lodge, a rare event for myself. I hit the snow by 1 and was sort of disappointed that paradise was closed for snowmaking...I thought I might have a chance to get to meet a certain patroler . Out of the two "doubles", razors had the best snow, but challenge was still fairly decent, especially condsidering the wind. Things started to get a little icy around 3pm. I ended up meeting Doug toward the end of the afternoon and did a few runs with him. He sort of lost me the first run down challenge. My skis started to chatter a little so I backed off and I stood up too much and hit a gust of wind that hit me like a wall. We did a couple of runs down lazy mile, which probably had the best snow on it, due to the afternoon grooming. I then called it a day, since I was past the witching hour of my ticket, and hit the lodge for some pierogies, then hit Wawa for coffee, on the way home. The only down side I find to going to places like Blue is that I'm always envious, after leaving. If I lived closer, I would definately have a pass for there. Overall, it was a pretty decent afternoon and it was nice to put a face to a name. I'm sure I also saw other PASR's out there. I definately will be there a few more times this year .

I might do it this year .

I'll be the first to admit that JFBB has made huge improvements in snowmaking and I love it. The grooming is also out of this world. It's the other things like passes, prices, no discounts, messing w/ trails at BB, that I'm not too fond of. I think Sno has more vertical. The only thing that I'm a little leary of is conditions at Sno. I can't comment on conditions, since I was only there once a long time ago, but I know that the snow stays in excellent condition at JFBB, when people at other mountains are complaining...I don't know about if Sno has any problems with keeping excellent conditions. I guess I'll just have to go numerous times, to find out. My reports aren't anything special. I usually only report when I see something different that I like and would think that might interest other people.

I normally do, but with the wind and cold I'm going to wait until it warms up a little.
-
They'll be there....you just won't see all of them .

I plan on hitting blue on Monday Feb. 5th for the noon session, the morning looks too cold. Anybody else plan on going? I'll have on a blue / black jacket, grey pants, brown helmet.......and facemask .

If distacne isn't a factor, I'd go with Blue. I'm actually thinking about switching to Sno next year, because it is only about 10 more mins. for me to drive. I'm not too happy with all of the changes Peak made at JFBB. I was actually calculating if it would be cost effective for me to get a pass to Sno, for the rest of the year.

Anyone else hitting Big Boulder tommorrow? (2/4)
bigdaddyk replied to TT C6's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
I thought about it, but I'm going to use the day for sleep. I have Mon.- Thurs. off of work and plan on branching out to other places, those days. -
As to be expected, everything was in excellent shape, with the several inches of fresh powder. The snow really dried out overnight. On East Mt, they almost doubled the width of the first headwall on Lightning. They groomed the right side down to slope into the direction of Floyd and groomed half of Floyd, so you could get some nice speed off of Lightning onto Floyd . That's the first time in around three years that I remember the first headwall being that wide. Not really much more to add, because I'm sure all of the mountains were really good today.

Sorry to hear that . If you're out for only two months, maybe you can make spring riding in April???

A heatwave must have hit BB on Thursday. Their Thursday BB phone report said that BB had up to 36" of a wet-granular surface
