Shakey legs like a noob

To me, it seems like they pushed to be the first to open and get the most trails open, now they are just idling. The snow comes first??? What happened to during the day? I heard the season pass sales were down this year, which wouldn't surprise me. I wonder if the lose of this income might be any reason. There also seems to me fewer people at JF, earlier in the morning. I wonder if taking away the morning session pass has anything to do with this? They would definately do better with an open to noon pass. It almost seems like Peak is on the cheap/ greedy side. They take away certain passes, pass holder discounts, jack up ticket/ pass prices, won't blow during the day, and so far it looks like they eliminated the pass holder party (eliminating the free food for holders at the party). I think I liked it better before Peak took over. I was starting to gain faith, but lately I'm re-lapsing after seeing the wasted time to blow snow.
-
I really question that they know what they are doing. By sitting idle and wasting ideal temps, that's not using resources to the fullest. The cost thing is rediculous, considering that they jacked up the cost of tickets and passes. I just checked the web cams and it looks like they aren't doing anything again. Widow is closed for snowmaking, but it looks like they aren't doing anything on it. They're really dropping the ball. They could have opened more terrain earlier. The other resorts are blowing snow as I type.

I just checked the BB snow report and it says around the clock snowmaking starting this Friday.

I'm hoping to hit Sno and Blue on Mon. / Tues. Hopefully they will have the northface open...if they do, I'll be there one of those days. I'm getting bored of the same thing
-
I would think that there thermometer is not accurate. There have been times where there humidity read 0%. They are the same temp as Mt. Pocono. Any other year they would blow snow. It must have something to do w/ Peak. This time of the year, they should suck it up and blow every chance they get....especially the way this winter has. If all the other places are doing it, JFBB shouldn't have a problem.
-
I'm slowly starting to get annoyed again. If this is one of Peak's policy's, they really need to look at it. I can see not making snow on open trails because of liability, but I don't see any reasons to ignore closed trails when it is 11 degrees outside. CB and Blue are blowing snow. Before soon, JFBB will have less trails open. What a waste.

At JF.

I'm not trying to be rude, but did you even go today? There is only new snow on the currently opened trails. There's no way that they will get any new trails open tomorrow. There were only a couple of small piles of snow on new trails, that looked like old snow from being blown last week. I thought they were wasting cold air by not blowing on any of the closed trails and I was disappointed. Lighting/ river shot has been open on East Mt., since opening week. They haven't blown any snow on any of the other black trails on that side of the Mt. It looked like they only blew snow on the existing trails, last night, and they didn't have any of the guns running this morning, while I was there .
-
Can somebody please explains this, preferably somebody from JFBB? Why were all of the snow guns turned off this morning, when it was 11 degrees...was it TOO cold? I can see on the open trails, but the closed trails didn't even have the hoses hooked up. The phone recording says that they are making snow whenever possible. It doesn't get much better than what it was this morning and nothing was running . At least blow snow on the trails that are closed.

BB midnight madness report 1-14-07

I don't keep track of vert. I know that it will hurt my ave. runs / day, but I use the stats manager for my own personal records. I'm not competing against anybody for any of the categories. My reasoning is that I did 21 runs on Sunday 14th and 9 runs on Monday, 15th, since it was after midnight. To me, it was two different days that I skiied on, not two different visits. I want to keep track of the dates that I skied and how many runs I did on each date; therefore, I consider it two different dates. Besides, if I go to Blue, CB, JF, and BB all on the same date and put these all in individually (all on the same date) it will credit you for 4 days. I looked at other stats and it did this. P.S> If I end up with the most days by one, I will return the trophy. -
The cold will be here tonight. The only downfall is that it is supposed to be windy, so a lot of snow will get blown into the trees .

BB midnight madness report 1-14-07

I know that the patrolers brought a sled down Merry Widow somewhere between 10 and 11...it looked they didn't have anybody on it. I think they went over toward the west side of the mt. -
I'd me more concerned about washing my hands before going to the bathroom...I don't want any of that bacteria getting on places that it shouldn't .

And they don't even have a winch cat

BB midnight madness report 1-14-07
bigdaddyk replied to bigdaddyk's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
I listed it under two different days, because technically it was, since it was after midnight. Also, the number of days "counter" isn't completely accurate anyway. If you go to two different places in the same day, it will count them as two different days, even though you put down the same date. -
Well, I sort of ate my own words from an earlier post. As I turned onto the access road about 9 pm, I had 4 cars in front of me and 2 behind me. Arriving at the lot, I was surprised to see that the lot was at least 3/4 full. There was a really good crowd of people there for the midnight session, especially considering the shitty weather. A number of employees that I spoke to also were surprised at the high turnout, even though it was raining. If it was a nice night, I'm sure the place would have been jammed. There weren't any real lift lines, but I always had two or three people in front of me and at least every two chairs had people on them. The snow was re-groomed and really soft and in good shape. I quit skiing at 1 am and got something to eat. I left at 1:40 and there was still a good number of people skiing and in the lodge. The thing that surprised me was that there were a lot of families out at that hour of the night. Hats off to BB for having a unique event. I'm sure it was a success and the next one on President's weekend should be just as good, if not better.

From Stowe's web site: "Winter is back (we knew it would be)! We have received 10-18 inches of new snow in the last week, and significant accumulations are forecasted for Sunday night through Monday!" They are supposed to get heavy snow on Monday. They even have a get out of work letter http://stowe.com/uploads/smr_get_out_of_work_letter.pdf
-
BAD REASONING ON MY PART . I forgot that Monday is a holiday, so they open at 8 instead of 3
-
For some reason, I don't see it being really crowded...if it was a Fri. or Sat., maybe. It will probably be mostly die-hards. Having it Fri. or Sat. probably wouldn't be practical for them, because a lot of the people who are working until 3 am, would probably have to be back for 8 am. Having it Sunday, they have 12 hours off, until having to be back in.
-
Remember, they are RE-GROOMING the slopes between 8 and 9 pm, to make everything nice again. This also costs money for manpower / fuel. I think that the fact that you are getting a fresh mountain again also makes it worth the extra $10. If they weren't regrooming, then maybe I could see your complaint.
-
It's an additional session. Why would you expect it to be free? Any other time they would be closing at 8.
-
Yumm' actually explained the differnces in a couple of threads, one of them is http://www.paskiandride.com/forums/index.p...c=7010&st=0 and he gave a link to butternut's snowmaking explanation that is good. http://www.skibutternut.com/mountain/snow-making.html

I guess from looking at the rates page, the sunday night special and family night special, which they have both listed as Sunday 3-8, are both $20. Heather or anybody from BB, are you reading and can maybe answer these questions?
