They normally close at 8pm on Sunday. Midnight madness starts at 9pm. I wonder if they are going to close at 8 and re-groom and open at 9. I hope they do this, being a holiday weekend. It will be pretty beat by 10 or 11 at night, if they don't re-groom....HINT HINT .

Once again, conditions were really good. They blew a lot of snow overnight. It was pretty crowded for a weekday and almost seemed like a weekend. Hats off to the snow making crew and groomers, on keeping up conditions over the last week and re-building this week .

I was at BB today (1-10) from 3:15 to 6:15. They had the guns turned off, even though it was 27 at 3:15. I don't mind this for the open trails...it's nice not having to look through frozen goggles. However, I thought it would make sense for them to blow snow on the closed trails, or pull the guns farther off to the side to widen the open trails. They did start blowing again around 5:30, but I thought maybe they could blow some snow on the closed trails, while they are open, or wouldn't this be practical for only about 5 hours??

That's what I was thinking. I'll be leaving in a few minutes. In a way, it's nice not having them on to ski in, but we need all of the time that is available for snow.
-
This is the first they've done it, so it's unknown. I couldn't imagine that it will be really crowded, that late.
-
I just checked the webcams and they quit making snow at BB, but are making it at JF. It looks cold enough to be making it at BB .

Anybody going to midnight madness this Sunday at BB? I might go, if it's not raining.

Anybody going to midnight madness this Sunday

I've watched some of the instructors at JF teaching and they seemed to be really in touch with the kids. Both sides seemed to be having fun at what they were doing and the kids looked like they were really having fun.

I was/ am looking forward to getting there this year. I was only there once, my first year skiing. I'm looking forward to doing their diamonds. Couldn't they have used the old guns, while the new fans were being installed, or was the entire system ripped apart?

That stinks. I thought the conditions were pretty good, especially the way the weather has been. They made a good amount of snow last night. Big boulder trail was unbelievably deep. I got on the snow at 3:30 and the snow was pretty fast...though icy in some spots. They started blowing snow on the east side (green area) about 5:30 and worked there way over toward bunny schuss. I stayed on the east side because the guns don't blow into your face as much on those trails. The snow was really nice. I decided to call it a day at 6:45, when my goggles froze over. I will def. be there Wednesday...should be sweet.

I called BB's phone # and their recording for Today says they open at 3pm. You should get there plenty early.
-
On a normal winter day, I would say yes. But with the way the conditions have been, I don't think it will be really crowded. Plus it's mid week
-
BB doesn't open until 3pm, or did they change it for this Tuesday?
-
I plan on hitting BB Tuesday at 3pm. Looks like it should be a decent day. NOAA is calling for snow after 1 pm .

'round the clock snowmaking for 3 days

In typical fashion this year, they are now calling for highs to be in the mid 40's Fri, Sat., and Sun., with rain. It figures, they'll rebound then have to start all over again. This weather is really, really, really starting to piss me off. -
Throw in the towel for a couple days?

According to JF's conditions for Monday, they closed East. Mt. With the upcoming cold, they should try to also open Thunderbolt. Without thunderbolt, I don't know how they could open east mt on race days, because the challenge slope (race slope) is the only way to east mt. right now. -
So do I. Saturday's 60's is really depressing

For Lake Harmony from NOAA. I don't see any 50's here: Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 25. West wind between 13 and 17 mph. Tuesday: A chance of snow showers, mainly after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. West wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Tuesday Night: A slight chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 17. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30. Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 15. Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 24. Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28. Saturday: Partly cloudy, with a high near 39.

I think the mountains could do it, if the temps pan out.
-
I can't believe I'm going to say this, but after this Sunday's rain I have a feeling it is going to be really bad . If the temps are low enough for 24 hour snowmaking, which the forecast right now looks good, it might be worth closing down for a couple days to blow the shit out of both mountains. That way they could put the snow guns where they need them, without worrying about traffic. I'm willing to sacrifice a few days that would probably be shitty, that way they can get conditions back to par. I probably wouldn't go anyway, because I'd worry too much about avoiding rocks, etc, and wouldn't enjoy myself.

I just checked the webcams and it looks like they did a good job, even though it looks narrow.

I just got back from JF. Got there at 7:45 am and the slopes were still closed at 8. They were still pushing snow around because there were areas that were completely gone between the triple and quad chairs at the top. I talked to some employees and they said that the slopes got hammered. They said that BB was thinner than JF. They were even talking about tearing down the park and taking the snow off of it to use elsewhere. I didn't bother to hang around, since they said it would be a while until they could get everything done.
