  1. Head up to frost or boulder. I was also thinking about heading to Blue next week ....
  2. You shouldn't be disappointed. I wasn't there today, so I don't know how JF held up, but they survived the last few rain events really well.
  3. I haven't been to BB in a few weeks, but JF should be fine. There's supposed to be good temps at night early next week for everybody to recoup.
  4. The trails don't have lights. There are only a few lights for the snowmakers/ groomers.
  5. I sort of like JF being a daytime mt. I think it helps to conserve and keep the snow in really good shape. If they do make BB a total park, They probably won't have much choice to light JF...hopefully better than what Elk is though.
  6. I left around 11:30. Did you hit it your first time down? Where did you have problems...Challenge or the bottom of east mt. I saw they blew, on my first time down Challenge and stayed off of the right side, where the groomer didn't hit. After that, I actually started going down the right side, but took my time and pushed through the fresh snow. When I was there, I didn't have any problems on east mt. I actually got a few fast runs in, after testing the snow to see if it was too sticky. I saw a few people on the ground on the right side of Challenge. I assumed that they hit the ungroomed fresh snow by surprise.
  7. I have to admitt, you have been correct with a lot of the commentary about the snowmaking. Although, I do see there side, where they are concentrating on blowing snow on the existing trails to keep them open. I'm not experienced at snowmaking, but wouldn't the way the weather has been make it difficult for them to make any reasonable amount of base snow to open new trails?
  8. JF will be your best bet. It has the most open terrain and most greens open. The park looks in good shape, but I don't do the features. JF is bigger, so it can handle the crowds better. The snow was really good as of Thursday 4th.
  9. Well, I pulled into JF at 8:45 today and it was 40 degrees and it didn't appear that there was any snowmaking. The snow was nice and soft and groomed over nicely. I had first tracks down Challenge and East Mt. Half way down Challenge, I was really surprised. They had made snow on the lower quarter of the mountain and when you hit that part, it was like hitting an open refrigerator. All of the cold air lowered toward the base of the moutain. The freshly blown snow was nice. I checked my thermometer and it was 8 degrees colder at the bottom, than at the top. Coming off of River Shot's last head wall was also like going into an ice box. This is the first time I can remember such a temperature difference on the mountain, in the three years that I have gone to JF. Too bad the whole mountain couldn't have chilled down to blow snow. Overall, the open trails were in extremely good shape.
  10. It would be nice if they could keep a lot of that on the trails, but with the wind, it's got to be hard.
  11. You have to go to JF for Free riding.
  12. Today's conditions were pretty sweet first thing. A decent amount of snow was blown overnight and both challenge and east mt were in good shape. Challenge started to get piles of sugar on the top, but nothing that was heavy, when I left at 11:30. Here's some pics I took with a camera phone. Sorry for the shitty quality, they don't do much justice. I didn't have my regular camera with me.
  13. Maybe a set of pimped out skis with hydrolic lifts in the bindings. I saw a guy using adaptive skis at Elk and it was kind of interesting seeing how they get on the lift, by releasing the lever that elevates the ski seat to the height of the chair.
  14. I free ski. I could imagine just a "park mountain" would have to get boring, without the plain trails for variety.
  15. First thing in the morning for fresh snow .
  16. I almost feel like I should change my avatar to Kelly Clarkson .
  17. Conditions look really good. They're blowing right now at both JFBB and I plan on hitting JF first thing Wednesday morning. Should be pretty good conditions . I wonder if JFBB lets kids < 6 ski for free, if they are with a passholder, or just a ticket purchaser?
  18. I don't see that happening, but then again they didn't listen to the complaints about the season passes. If they do this, they are going to loose a lot of business.
  19. to the board. CB gets way too crowded on holidays. JF and BB get crowds, but not as bad as CB and the snow quality is better at JFBB. What he means by terrain parks is that the trails have jumps and rails (obstacles to ride on for advanced skiers and riders). BB does have regular trails, though. For a holiday weekend, JF would be the best bet because it is bigger than BB, so it can handle more people, but like he said an all day ticket is good for both resorts. Plus, if you are already in Lake Harmony, it would be foolish to go to CB. By the way, typing in all CAPS on a message board means that you are yelling . Check this board frequently and post often, it is a really valuable source of info.
  20. The forecast for the next week from NOAA looks horrible . Two nights of snowmaking and rain the other days. They are even calling for rain with a temp of 24 . Lake Harmony: Tonight: A slight chance of rain before 9pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind between 7 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Northwest wind between 8 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 27. West wind between 3 and 7 mph. Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 47. West wind between 3 and 10 mph. Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 26. West wind between 5 and 7 mph. Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 48. Thursday Night: A chance of rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Friday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Friday Night: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 36. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Saturday: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 31. Sunday: A chance of rain. Partly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Sunday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 24. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Monday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 42. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  21. Something must be going on with the board. I see some other people have repeats in their posts.
  22. I know you don't want to, but you might want to consider getting a refund on your pass and getting one at a different mountain this year. I know it would drive me up the wall.
  23. Like I've said before, learn to expect it. The more trails they turn into parks, the more people you are going to get on them that don't use the features. Especially when the whole mountain isn't open.
  24. I talked to a few people at JF on Sunday and they were all really impressed with how good the conditions and snow are at JF. The thing I don't get is all of the people bitching about the conditions at CB. They could drive only 15 minutes more, and get a lot better conditons and more open terrain...not that I mind the crowds going to CB....it keeps the conditions better for me
  25. Before giving up on other resorts, why don't you try JF. They have had really, really good snow and coverage. I'm sure after the rain, it might go down a little, but it would still probably be worth it. It seems like just after the resorts get a couple good nights of snowmaking, it rains...then they have to do it all over again. The pattern looks like it is going to stay the same into next weekend .
