  1. In Bloomsburg, we got 3" to 4" and by noon, a lot of it was gone .
  2. I was there at the beginning of the week and at the end. They lost a LOT over the course of five days.
  3. Skied Elk on Sunday 2nd. It was icy in the morning, then loosened up toward afternoon. Had to be careful of lumps in spots.
  4. Just checked Windham's website and it says they are closing Sunday April 2. . I was going to go on Tuesday to take advantage of the season pass offer for other resorts. Guess I'll be going to Hunter for half off other resort passes.
  5. How crowded was it at Elk and how did the snow hold up, on the trails open to the public? I might go Sunday, but not if it's a zoo.
  6. It finally dawned on me................
  7. I had to dodge a fox at Elk on Tuesday.
  8. Those pics came out pretty good, for a phone. What type of phone do u have?
  9. Elk's in Susquehanna County and it's usually 5-10 degrees colder there, than CB. They also tend to get more snow, from lake effect bursts. I heard they got about 3" of new snow just last weekend . They also do a hell of a job grooming, pushing snow around, and making snow. There are still a couple large snow whales to the right of the Susquehanna trail, that they take snow from. Their slalom trail looked like it was in mid-winter form, today....of course it was closed for the weekend races.
  10. Yeah, it was still decent, considering the warm temps all week. Although, I noticed a big difference from Tuesday up to Today, but they are doing a good job pushing snow around. I was there today from 8:30 to 11:30. The pond skimming at the top of the lifts was an added feature.

    Elk Thurs. 3-30

Went to Elk from 8:30 to 11:15. The snow is getting really soft, early. It was 47 when I arrived and 57 when I left. Bare spots are popping up, but there is still a lot of good snow. I had to watch out for rocks, more today than in previous days. I think they are getting pushed around from the groomer, because some of them were sitting on top of the snow. They were pushing snow into the woods, between Tuscarora and Slalom, to connect the two. Tuscarora is closed, so I assume this has something to do with the race, this weekend. For as warm as it has been, conditions are still decent early. If you have them, bring rock skis...that way you don't have to worry so much. I only have one set, but have been fortunate enough to avoid any problems by staying on the trails w/ good coverage. I assume Slalom is the course they use for races??? If it is, it has really good snow coverage, for anybody racing this weekend.
  12. I made it out for the second day, this week and conditions were pretty good again. It was warmer today, which made the snow soften up quicker. There were also more people there, which lead to the snow being pushed around more. I went to the west side a little more today. The farthest trail, lenape looked like it was getting thin in spots and shrinking. On a few other trails, a few thin spots were popping up, but overall there is still a decent amount of quality snow quality. I'm one who worries about scratching the bottoms of my skis, but I still wasn't too concerned about that today, because of the amount of snow. I did notice, toward the bottom of Susquehanna, that there were yellow patches popping up. It didn't seem like mud and it wasn't . Only thing I could think of is that it might be oil from when the snow was made, from the hose lines?? . Anybody know anything about what that might be?
  13. Now that I read it, I could have phrased it differently. I stayed with the faster of the two slow lifts.
  14. When I was there, four trails were closed (Lehigh, Tuscorora, Lackawanna, and Seneca). I don't think Lehigh was open at all this year and I think Seneca was only open a couple weeks, so only two trails have been lost. I stayed mainly on the east side (left side), because I had to leave early and was too impatient to ride the slower quad. Deleware got soft early, due to sun exposure, but the diamonds Mowhawk and Iroqois remained decent. Slalom stayed pretty firm. Susquehanna got a little soft, but did not get lumpy, while I was there. The snow wasn't sticky either and I was skiing on wax that was ran on for two days. I left at 11:30. On the right side, I only went down Wyalusing, but I thought it was in pretty good shape. The other trails on that side appeared to be in good shape and had good coverage. When I left, there was still a lot of untouched snow. Also, I didn't see any snowplowers or pizza wedgers, so the snow wasn't being scraped off. As long as we don't get any hard rain, I think the coverage should stay pretty good, up through the weekend. There was still some natural snow, around some of the trees leading up to the mountain. The only place that I cringed was around the loading area, but that is to be expected. The base area gave a false representation of what the mountain was actually like, at the time I left. The only other obstacle that I ran into was a fox, that ran in front of me on the west slope. That's the first time I had to dodge an animal. I plan on going Wednesday, so I should be able to give a better comparison. Either way, to me a bad day would be better than no day. This weekend might be a little busy, because they have that event that is going to have members of the U.S. ski team. I got 17 runs in, in a 3 hour period. The snow wasn't really fast, but I was still able to do a few tucks down Susquehanna. I don't think you have anything to lose...it's better than sitting at home wondering what it would have been like. If you go, go early in the day. From talking to employees, the nights have been getting relatively cold, so the snow is getting a chance to reset, overnight.
  15. I went to Elk from 8:30 - 11:30. They still have a lot of snow and the conditions, first thing in the morning, were excellent. I didn't notice any bare spots. When I arrived at 8:05, the temp was 37. When I left at 11:45, the temp was 48. The snow got a little soft at 11:30, but wasn't too bad. There were a decent amount of people there, considering the time of year, but not like mid week in the middle of winter. I plan on getting back up there a few more times this week .

    Elk this week

I planned on going today, since they got some fresh snow over the weekend and it's supposed to get warm. I got plenty of sleep, but when I woke up, I was still exhausted from getting up 7 mornings in a row at 6 am and fell back to sleep . I plan on going Tuesday, so hopefully they still have some decent snow left.
  18. That's why I try to get the most out of each trip, because you never know .

  22. Elk is open till next weekend.
  23. The last day of Jack Frost turned out to be better than I expected. I hit the area of the Hazleton exit on 80 and saw there was about an inch of fresh snow in the trees and grass. I was praying that this was also the case at JF, because I ran into the same thing Sat., but JF ended up not having quite as much. To my delight, JF ended up getting about an inch of snow, on the mountain . This made the runs a lot nicer and it stayed fairly cold and cloudy, along with snow showers up to the end of the day. The snow got soft, but didn't mush up. East mountain stayed really good throughout the entire day. Now, I guess it's off to Elk Mt. and the places in NY, since my home is now closed .
  24. It'll make you fly....
