  1. Thanks for the reply. I'm used to using standard rental skis. I don't need them for racing, but I don't go for Sunday drives, either. I mostly stay on diamonds and blues. I'm assuming these skis would handle better than the standard rental ski for what I want....am I correct?
  2. I just got new Volkl energy 380 skis and Rossignol elite epx 3 boots. All the articles I've seen seem to be positive on these. Anybody have any input about these boots and skis? Thanks.
  3. Yeah, last year it wasn't until the second week of December....

    hydro pack algae

Buy a new one. You're gonna have some funky tasting liquids in there...no matter how many times you rinse it.
  5. From what I've read, the warmest summers were followed by the snowiest winters....and this year was one of the warmer summers in a while.
  6. Well, I see that the new season pass prices are out. One of the nice perks of having the pass was the preferred parking at JF. This year I see that it's not included with the pass....you have to pay an additional $69. If there charging extra for this, there better be somebody monitoring the lot EVERY day, not just weekends!!!
  7. Dumb question, but how do you ski without getting caught or getting in trouble if they are closed?
  8. How was the snow? Was it soft and mushy? I went March 9th and the ticket I got has on it that if you present that ticket, you get one for $20.
  9. Yeah, you got to move onto other activities. It's just more exciting when you first move into the winter season and know that the mountains will be opening.
  10. Well, the day finally came; the one most of us dread...the final day of the season. The last hour of the season seemed almost haunting at times. The east side of the mountain thinned out quickly. While going up the lift, there seemed to be an eerie quiet. People had that look in their eyes that you could read without asking...they knew that this was the end of the season and tomorrow's run would be nine months away. Reality set in as you watched the ski patrol take down the safety lines and markers and put up the closed signs. Die hard skiers and snowboarders are a different kind of people. We go through our seasonal depression as others are coming out of it. Now the anticipation of next season starts and my quest for new equipment begins.
  11. I'll be there Friday!!
  12. I was pleasantly surprised with the conditions on Tues., March 22. The conditions in the morning were excellent...the snow got soft, but didn't mush up, like some other place have been. Frost always seems to have good conditions. I will definately be there Thursday morning, since they are getting a heavy dump of snow
  13. I think what was meant was deeper powder requires more work and you can't build up any speed in it. I like snow, but any more than a few inches of ungroomed snow is too much. I hate having to exhaust a lot of energy...that's why I like down hill skiing
  14. The trees are pretty close together. There are even a few areas between trails that are not listed that you can go on. Only thing is, it is all natural snow on them, so by Sunday it might be hard to go on them.
  15. I haven't seen anything on a closing date for Frost, but I would assume that next week would be the last, since they are giving out free tickets. That won't even be worth going because it will be so damn crowded.
  16. I don't really do the parks, but from what I've seen, Boulder's parks appeared to be better than Frost's.
  17. Just saw on their site that Boulder is closing @ 5 this Sunday (13th). This makes no sense to close on the day that the Pass holder's party is at Frost. To make it worse, you can't go over to Boulder after the party, because they aren't gonna be open at night. I can't see the logic in closing when interest is still strong, coverage is from edge to edge, and winter is still going strong. Like I said before, nobody wants to stay open late in the season, around here. . We could have three blizzards and sub zero temps and a two hour wait for the lift, and they would probably still close becuase its March.
  18. I just saw on their site that Boulder is closing for the season @ 5pm on Sun. March 13. Nice that they gave us a whole days notice.
  19. It seems like all of the Mountains around here are dead set against staying open into April...no matter what the conditions. If they all would drop their ticket prices, more people would show up, which would lead to a better profit margin.
  20. ThinkSnow: Just curious, what is the red circle for on the lift ticket, on your avatar?
  21. The web site has it listed for April 2 & 3.

    Elk made snow

I saw on their web site that they blew more snow on Wednesday night. Can anybody tell me what type of crowd I can expect this weekend. Are there normally long lift lines on weekends? I got to get there again this year and I know I'm running out of time. Thanks

    Finally made it

Well, I finally made it to Elk on Wednesday....and I loved it . The snow stayed consistant the whole day and the grooming was outstanding. There were none of the typical lumps that you normally find later in the day. The trails also were a pleasant surprise...they seemed like they never ended. I'm definately going to try to get to Elk more often.
  24. It better be within the next week....the pass holder's party is this Sun. 13th at Frost...there's usually only another week or two after that . (Hopefully I'm wrong and its longer).

    Weekend

I saw on Elk's site that they have some type of state race (championship?) going on this weekend. Does this mean that it will be crowded?
