I'm definitely skiing blue this season. I haven't skied dream weaver or nightmare yet. Last time I skied there they were cutting those trails. What was that three seasons ago? No excuses this season.
-
But vert around here is virtually meaningless. Like I said we're comparing molehills to molehills in the Poconos. Are there longer trails at Elk and Blue? Of course, but by what...10 seconds? Then again It takes me longer to ski One park glade or challenge glade than it takes me to ski Susquehanna or Slalom (probably because there's more turning required due to the trees). I'll take that over the traditional run any day. Are the Elevator and Risk It short as hell? Yes. But they're steep and there's nothing at Elk like them. Vert obviously makes a difference at big mountains north and out west. Here it's just a number IMO. And you should definitely check out Jack Frost at some point this season. I think I may even get some sort of discounted ticket on my pass that I can let you have. Let me know. Dan, Phillycore and myself would love to have you come up.

This is why I'm not a fan of Monroe or Even Pike Co. I love the signs along I-80 that read "This development is a Commuter's Dream". How could a commuter's "dream" be to have their job 2 STATES over? No offense if anyone here does that commute but It's amazing to me that people actually think it's feasible to commute 100+ miles each way every day. Unfortunately these Counties had no idea what they wanted to be (suburb, vacation getaway etc). The builders are going crazy and now they have a mess to deal with in terms of sprawl, roads, foreclosures, crime. etc. Have fun with all that.

But its not the truth. It's a ridiculous statement especially coming from you as I appreciate most of your posts. I know, maybe we can stack 8 big boulders on top of 1 jack frost and that'll compare to Jackson Hole! You're supposed to compare mountains to molehills, not molehills to molehills. If you think Elk's unbelievably gnarly terrain is worth the extra 250 over Jack Frost then you must spend your evenings diving into a money pit like scrooge mcduck.

There are some gated communities in that area that are having problems with crime etc..This could be in one of those. There's a reason it's that low.

40's in the Poconos last night.

What Dan said. To each his own. I like JF because of the trees, east etc. Doug likes fast lifts. Who cares. This is Pennsylvania people. We take what we can get.
-
Yeah...ski magazine rankings don't really carry much weight on ski message boards.
-
By wasted potential, I wasn't referring to them spending a load of money on dumb shit like condos or what have you. I was talking about simply clearing out some gladed terrain and allowing tree skiing because (even though you call it flat) it would be that much better if they did. Every year its the same thing with them..."new for this year, we planted X number of trees". It's old IMO.

elk take notes. These are upgrades.

I just realized that the one resort says "Ski Cooper" and not "Ski Copper". LMAO. I was wondering why those rates were so low. Really the only 2 areas on this card that interest me are A Basin and Loveland and this thing actually offers some pretty good deals - especially Loveland. It may be worth picking up if we do a front range trip.
-
Found this online. Doesn't seem like a bad deal, especially if you're visiting and skiing mid-week. Of course the resorts are limited, but if you're planning on visiting one or more of these resorts, this may be worth picking up. http://www.shopcolor...ard_2011_12.htm The 2011-12 Gems Card gets you discounts at all nine Colorado Gems ski areas. Participating resorts include Arapahoe Basin, Echo Mountain, Eldora, Loveland, Monarch Mountain, Powderhorn, Ski Cooper, SolVista, and Sunlight. Check out the list of deals and discounts for the 2011-12 Gems Card below. 2011-12 Colorado Gems Card Arapahoe Basin [*]2 for 1 adult lift ticket Mon-Fri, valid once 11/1/11

There's hope. Blue ridge sold the land a week or so ago. http://m.tnonline.com/2011/jul/22/big-boulder-jack-frost-sales-are-approved -
more tree clearing at Jack Frost.

They didn't blow too much after January last year (probably because it stayed cold for a while) and Risk It was still skiable for a good portion on the season (not as much as other tree runs). Who knows. They may even make an extra effort this year to get a little extra snow in there since they're officially calling it an improvement for 11-12. Still one of the greatest PA ski days ever for me. That and a few days before when we were skiing during that storm. -
more tree clearing at Jack Frost.

A cleared out Risk it could rival the Elevator for the best run at Jack Frost. -
The chances of getting a core shot on East Mt. just decreased dramatically. Looks like Frost is cleaning out the tree's in and around "Risk It". (JFSkiDan you spoke and they listened). http://jfbb.com/multiblog/2011/07/25/risk-it-glade "This is a fall project but sure to be a good one... "Risk It" on East Mountain is going to be cleared out for some more great glade skiing and riding!" Looking forward to this.

True. At least it has us talking about skiing in July, during a heat wave no less. In looking at this again for laughs. Some of it is truly priceless. According to the survey, the #3 "favorite destination village" in the East is The Killington Access road. How does a busy road with bars, restaurants and hotels constitute a "village" and how the hell does it rank higher than actual ski towns like Stowe (ranked 5th) and Lake Placid (7th)? Bear Creek 4 spots ahead of Elk?

Wow. Who are these people surveying?
