further proof that I'm living in the wrong state.

Elks a great place to ski no doubt and your right, it would be 2x as good if you didnt have to look over your shoulder should you make a turn off piste. Regarding a petition, I don't think the current owners will ever allow it. I remember a thread a few years back that included an email response from the owner and he was pretty serious about never opening up the trees. I just chuckle at the like skiing in VT slogan. I can't name an area in VT (or anywhere north of Elk for that matter) that has a sign telling you that if you ski in the woods or if you ski fast you'll have your ticket pulled. I'm not dissing Elk. It does offer a true mountain feel and the snow is usually great, as is the terrain. But it could be so much more. IDK Maybe I'm spoiled because I spend 80% of the time in the trees at Jack Frost and think it would be weird not being able to explore the hill. I mean isn't that part of what makes skiing fun?

When I saw the title of this thread I got excited thinking elk may actually try to live up to its "like skiing in VT" slogan and finally allow tree skiing. Of course I was wrong. No surprise.

Well this makes my decision easier. looks like I'll be calling it a season this weekend at bb.

Glissading with -insert god of your choice-

I've read a shit load of TR's on this site and others. This ranks up there as one of the best. Amazing stuff. The ADK High Peaks are an east coast gem. -
I'm likely at BB. I don't feel like driving or shelling out for lift tix.

That first picture is sick!

Big Boulder This Weekend
RidgeRacer replied to Heather-Big Boulder's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
I just got back. It's like mid winter. The snow today was the best I've skied in weeks and there's plenty of it. I could see them being 100% next weekend and possibly the weekend after. Fun day. -
Slides are open. have fun.

what Dan said and Elk.

College Night is Tonight

Worked late. Got home late. Definitely skiing tomorrow night. -
The trail in the first pic looks real steep. How's the terrain compared to elk?

I doubt the hill will be icy after 10 inches. -
Big Boulder Will Re-Open Wednesday

Nice. -
Elk. BTW it would be a shame if this past weekend was their last. They had a ton of snow last weekend. I can't image that they lost much since then.
-
Definitely. It's just as exciting watching them tackle a steep trail as it was watching them take their first steps. The six inches we got last night didn't hurt either. Could keep people thinking about skiing. BB should have no problem staying open well into April.

Sorry I missed you guys yesterday. I just got back after a really fun and rewarding session at CB. it was easily one of the best days of the season for me simply because my kid literally progressed so much in one day. We pretty much skied the entire mountain and conditions ranged from really nice spring corn to the occasional hardpack in the shady areas. CB still has a lot of snow. I didn't see many thin or bare spots. The lower part of Pharaoh was closed but that's it. The highlight was watching my kid ski rocket and margies with relative ease, definitely taking the next step. Good day.

Jack Frost Closed for the Season

Skiing CB for free seems more enticing than a full price ticket to Blue. -
Jack Frost Closed for the Season

Kinda sad but it was a great season at Jackson Frost none the less. -
Still lots of snow up there. We got there early and it was hardpack and really freaking fast. I was rockin the Atomic Snoops (not the greatest carving ski) wishing I was on my PEs while Dan was making effortless turns on his PEs. On one run down susquehanna, I felt like I was going at a pretty good clip, only to watch a brown blur that was Dan ski past me. After a some fast runs early on, I hit tunkhannok's ice bumps only to bail onto lackawanna. I was surprised to see bumps on mohawk and which we skied and were icy as well. Unfortunately we had to call it a day shortly thereafter as I had a family emergency and had to leave. JFskidan who is a 100% class act and a great friend completely understood (I drove). Still skied most of the mt though. Pics below.
