  1. 1) The best place to park is in the lot directly across the access road from the lodge. It normally filters in all different directions from there as it gets busier. Well I should say the best place to park is the VIP section up front. But I think you still need to VIP pass to park there. That's essentially ski in / ski out from your car. 2) Don't know but I'd venture to say 9. 3) Bring a lock, there's no ski check. 4) Don't know about the Trans Am.
  2. I'm not a student but the place looks nice....I also found a place called the Woodlake Inn that looks good and I believe it's on Main Street. Wow that's a good price. Whiteface / LP has been on my list for a while and I'm looking to finally get up there this season.
  3. Looking for nice lodging in Lake Placid that isn't too expensive...preferably with good ski and stay packages. Any suggestions / experiences?
  4. When I was skiing mostly at Jack Frost mid week, I figured since it's not going to be crowded (unless it's a WMMR day) I can sleep a little longer and not rush out. Whenever I ski outside of PA I'm up bright and early.
  5. 9am is kinda early you know
  6. Just back from a night session at Boulder and all I can say is wow. The snow was great tonight. The place was empty and the fan guns were firing on pretty much the entire Mt. With the temps around 15, the guns were laying down some really light man made powder. I did a few runs on Bunny's elbow, which was more hardpack and cord since there was no snow making on it. I moved over to Draufganger and then to Snow Drift and Boulder Park where the guns were on. Boulder park and Snowdrift were the runs of the night with lots of fresh powder. The upper part of Boulder Park was somewhat slow due man made snow piles but once you got going it was excellent. They also had an ungroomed sign at the Boulder Park entrance. As I made my last run, I noticed Love Park (I think) was closed. Anyway not much else other than tonight was top notch.
  7. Yup. All of the steep stuff is at the bottom.
  8. I got to the Mt. around 8pm tonight. Snow was falling lightly the entire time I was there. It was actually pretty crowded as well. At one point there was a 10 -15 person line to get on the lift. The crowds thinned out a little after 9 though. Conditions tonight were better than expected. There was about 1 to 2 inches of of soft powdery snow to be had on the sides of the trails. The middle of most of the trails was hardpack, even ice in some spots. I mostly did laps on Boulder Park, Snow Drift and Draufganger. The snow at the top of snow drift / boulder park was cut up powder, very fun to plow through. I was surprised to see how much natural snow was actually on the Mt. with more to come this weekend of course. Anyway, twas another fun night of skiing. Have a great weekend.
  9. Conditions weren't too bad tonight given the freezing rain. I got to the hill a little after 7. The snow seemed like it was a nice packed powder earlier in the day but it was a bit glazed over due to the sleet, everything was easily carvable though. I started on Draufganger and and then moved over to Snowdrift and the tree part up top. After a few runs on Snowdrift I hit Bunny's Elbow then over to Mittl-Weg and back to Drauf. The top entrance to Boulder park and Love park were closed. I had to keep scraping ice off of my goggles but it was nothing too bad. When I left my car was covered in ice and the roads were slick so be careful out there. Overall it wasn't a bad night at Boulder.
  10. I'll be there. Wasn't the meeting place at 9am top of Exhibition?
  11. that was great.
  12. Mid-week at Frost with decent snow in the trees can be as good as it gets in this part of ski country. When they were blowing snow on Floyds on Thursday, a lot of that snow was drifting onto Risk It.
  13. Was Floyds open? I'll be hitting Boulder later tomorrow night. Hopefully the crowds will have dissipated a little by then.
  14. lol, nice TR and pics philly. All I use is the camera in my phone too. I don't ski with a good camera anymore since I lost one at Killington when I took a tumble on the spring bumps on Highline. If I lose another camera while skiing my wife will lose it And yeah I think the ski area you see when driving southbound on 476 is Blue. At night it's lit up in orange.
  15. Just back from a fun session at JF. I got to the Mt. a little after 10. The temp was approx. 14 degrees with lots of sun. I got my ticket and headed for Thunderbolt. The snow was packed powder / frozen cord pretty much everywhere that wasn't getting snow blown on it. It wasn't too crowded. I was either skiing right onto the chair or behind 2 or 3 people. After T Bolt, I headed to River Shot and did a few laps there. I was hoping to ski Floyds today but they were blowing snow like crazy on it thus it was still closed. It should be good for tomorrow with the amount of snow that's on it, hopefully they let it bump up like last year. Anywhere off the trail was a hockey rink. Exhibition had an ungroomed sign at the top of the trail. It was easily the run of the day. They were blowing snow on it which made for lots of chalky ungroomed man made powder. Definitely a fun day. Happy New Year everyone. Edit....Sorry Phillycore I didn't see your report. I would have posted this in your thread.
  16. There was hardly a wait.
  17. Due to a work schedule change I won't be skiing mid week at JF but primarily on weekends now so I just got back from Big Boulder. It was fairly crowded tonight, clear and cold with major dust on crust conditions with ice in the middle of the trails, I did most of my runs on Draufganger with a few on Boulder Park and a run on Bunny's Elbow, Snowdrift and Little Boulder. The icy middle of the trails meant hanging out on the the far edges of the trails was key. Still fun though (skiing always is). Happy New Year everyone.
  18. welcome Heather
  19. I might have to try it out when conditions are better.
  20. Looks like yesterday was the day to be there. Today was nice but with the warm up and heavy traffic the snow became almost spring like. I'm all for spring snow, but in the spring. Although mini bumps were forming on the last headwall of River Shot. The challenge trees were fun today too. There's a whole lot of rocks deeper in though which makes it pretty unskiable. Once we get though tomorrow's 52 degrees, winter's back for Monday.
  21. The Elevator used to be a marked trail a few seasons back when Jack Frost's trail map used to have like 30 marked trails. But it was cut out I believe when Peak took over. The trail map used to look like this...
  22. Sweet photos Kevin. The last one is great.
  23. Just back from another nice day at Jack Frost. I got there around 10:30 the temp was around 11 degrees with the wind chill in the negatives. The top of the Mt. was a windblown hardpack but on the trails themselves there was a fast packed powder surface. After a run on Thunderbolt I headed straight for East Mt. River Shot was really fast. It looked like they were blowing snow on everything but River Shot (which was open) and Floyd's. I decided to check out what used to be the Elevator to see if there was anything skiable with all the new snow and I noticed pretty much everything is overgrown with branches and thorns. Maybe once they start blowing on Floyd's some of that will cover it. I headed to the Challenge glade which was fun and a bit of a leg burner and skied it from the top to the bottom to the East Mt. lift. The snow in there was kind of crusty in spots and heavy in others. When I left the temp was up to 19 degrees. Overall a nice December day at Frost. From the East Mt. Lift approaching the top In the trees to the right of Challenge
  24. Don't they get a ton of skier visits? That would be perfect....but IDK I think Peak may be focusing on New England resorts now.
