  1. I might have to try it out when conditions are better.
  2. Looks like yesterday was the day to be there. Today was nice but with the warm up and heavy traffic the snow became almost spring like. I'm all for spring snow, but in the spring. Although mini bumps were forming on the last headwall of River Shot. The challenge trees were fun today too. There's a whole lot of rocks deeper in though which makes it pretty unskiable. Once we get though tomorrow's 52 degrees, winter's back for Monday.
  3. The Elevator used to be a marked trail a few seasons back when Jack Frost's trail map used to have like 30 marked trails. But it was cut out I believe when Peak took over. The trail map used to look like this...
  4. Sweet photos Kevin. The last one is great.
  5. Just back from another nice day at Jack Frost. I got there around 10:30 the temp was around 11 degrees with the wind chill in the negatives. The top of the Mt. was a windblown hardpack but on the trails themselves there was a fast packed powder surface. After a run on Thunderbolt I headed straight for East Mt. River Shot was really fast. It looked like they were blowing snow on everything but River Shot (which was open) and Floyd's. I decided to check out what used to be the Elevator to see if there was anything skiable with all the new snow and I noticed pretty much everything is overgrown with branches and thorns. Maybe once they start blowing on Floyd's some of that will cover it. I headed to the Challenge glade which was fun and a bit of a leg burner and skied it from the top to the bottom to the East Mt. lift. The snow in there was kind of crusty in spots and heavy in others. When I left the temp was up to 19 degrees. Overall a nice December day at Frost. From the East Mt. Lift approaching the top In the trees to the right of Challenge
  6. Don't they get a ton of skier visits? That would be perfect....but IDK I think Peak may be focusing on New England resorts now.
  7. Nice pics....I remember leaving Elk during a storm and a truck came flying past on the opposite lane on 374 and sent a ton of snow onto my side which I slid on and ended up in a ditch for an hour or so before a tow truck came to pull me out. That road scares me. The skiing was really good though.
  8. From the jfbb.com... East Mountain will open this weekend (Saturday, December 20) with Lightning, River Shot, and Sno Chute! Oursnowmakers got a little help from Mother Nature - 12 inches of fresh powder! Conditions are ideal at both Jack Frost and Big Boulder so get some pre-holiday turns...
  9. That is all. By the way the roads are real bad. Drive slow and be careful out there
  10. Sat should be great with 6 to 10 inches moving in tomorrow.
  11. Just back from another day at Jack Frost. I was ready to head out around 10 but it was raining so I figured I'd hold off until it stopped which it did luckily. I got to the Mt. around 1pm. Visibility on the road was good until the JF access road and it got foggy as you went up. Visibility on the hill wasn't all that bad though. The Mt. was groomed and conditions were either frozen cord or a soft loose granular depending where you skied. Higher traffic areas in the middle of T-Bolt and challenge loosened things up and made for a fast, easy to carve surface. I skied primarily on Thunderbolt with a run on Exhibition and a few runs on Challenge. The Challenge trees were fun today. The snow in there is kinda hollow and makes a lot of sound when you turn on it but there's plenty of it and it's real easy to edge. Another fun day. No matter how many times I ski Frost I never get tired of it. Here's a few photos on the day... From the quad approaching Thunderbolt Trees on Challenge
  12. Just back from Jack Frost. I pulled into the lot at 10:30 to cloudy skies and a temperature of around 28 degrees. There were maybe 25 cars in the lot....easily less people than yesterday. I got my ticket and headed straight for Thunderbolt. The snow hardened over night and it was groomed out completely on every trail which made for fast frozen cord all over the entire mountain. After a few laps on Thunderbolt I headed for Challenge and sampled the snow to skiers right in the trees which was a frozen hardpack, easy to keep an edge on but really not all that great. I then headed for Exhibition and a run in the One Park trees and out onto One Park. I decided to check out the west side and made a run on Frosty to Easy Rider. I noticed some tree thinning between Lehigh and Jane's Lane. I don't remember it being that clear there last year...although I could be wrong. After one run there it was back to Thunderbolt and Dematte's Demise before calling it a day. Overall a nice day with decent conditions but hopefully getting nicer with some snow possible tonight.
  13. Just back from a really nice day at Jack Frost. It's definitely nice to have Jack Frost finally open for the season. I pulled into a fairly empty lot around 10am. Skies were overcast with no precipitation. The temperature was about 50 degrees. I got my pass validated made my first Jack Frost run of the season on Thunderbolt. The rain did take it's toll on the snow which was a fast wet granular surface. I felt like Clark Griswold when he applied the kitchen lubricant to his sled from Christmas Vacation. Carving out wide turns on Thunderbolt was a blast. After a few runs on Thunderbolt I headed for Challenge which was kinda bumpy from all of the cat tracks. The trees were a bit sticky so I really didn't bother. I then headed for Exhibition which had one side groomed and the other with snow making piles. After a run on exhibition I headed for the One Park trees which were skiable until about half way down (dont know for how long though with the rain / warmth) then had to bear left onto One Park which again was bumpy from the cat tracks. After a few runs there it was back over to Thunderbolt and the T bolt glade for a bit to finish. Overall an excellent first mid week day at Jack Frost. Only a 2 photos today.
  14. Just back from an really nice night session at BB. The snow was ridiculously good tonight....maybe some of the best night conditions I can remember skiing in a long time. Weather was perfect...about 35 degrees when I got there. I made my first run down Mittl-weg. The snow was a fast packed powder surface. I then hit the Boulder Park trail for some wide GS turns. Then over to Bunny's elbow / Schuss which had a bit of ice...the headwalls at the bottom are always fun though. The place was pretty empty which meant I had Boulder Park and Mittl-Weg all to myself at times...Overall a really nice night skiing session at Big Boulder and only about 14 hours until Jack Frost tomorrow morning!
  15. Nice TR...sounds like conditions were great. I'll be back at Frost starting on Mon through Thurs. I can't wait to hit the home Mt. again.
  16. We have to validate our pass at the ticket window...unless you get the VIP pass which is like $100 more. Edit: Schifdawg you beat me to it.
  17. I picked up a mid week only pass this season so I'm definitely there on weekdays...Can't wait until Mon.
  18. No worries man... I'll have some new photos from this season shortly.
  19. not sure about the weekend yet...but definitely will be there Mon Tues Wed
  20. I just back...The snow was a downhill racers dream tonight. Lots of windblown hardpack with some chalky man made mixed in. The place was empty so making wide super g turns on Boulder park was extremely fun up until the jump then I had to slam on the brakes. Bunny's elbow was less icy. The best snow was on Love park which I took my final run on which again had no one on it and was great for getting a little speed. Luckily my Volkls can hold a pretty good edge on hardpack or else tonight may not have been as fun as it was. Snow guns were on everywhere. They should have the entire place open real soon.
  21. Thanks man. Blue looks like winter wonderland your shots. Any new trails opened yet?
  22. The trees near challenge, One Park and Thunderbolt were skiable for most of last year. Most of the time it was half decent too. Mad Tree Glade and other parts on East that don't get crazy amounts of blow over snow, not so much. lol... Jordan's the real Jack Frost connoisseur. We'll have to fly him in from CO.
  23. RidgeRacer

    TR Opening Day

Hopefully..those are the two best trails IMO
  24. Supposedly they thinned out the trees between One Park and Exhibition that should now take you from the summit all the way down to the lift which I'm looking forward to skiing this year. Normally you'd have to jump out half way down.
