Just back from another day at JF. I pulled into the lot around 11:00 and to my surprise it wasn't as busy as I had anticipated, still busier than a normal Monday though. Tubing was open. Got my ticket, clicked in and made my way over to Exhibition. The snow is a very fast, sugary surface with a few icy spots thrown in here and there. The only noticeable bare spot was on exhibition and it was very small. There is a big sheet of ice on the entrance to Challenge off of Sno Chute though. After exhibition I pretty much parked it on East for the next two hours or so. Doing laps on River Shot, Floyd's and made my way over to Challenge a few times. The snow is very edgable with again a few icy spots but nothing major. Crowds were really not a factor. There were some people who took spills on Floyd's but everything seemed ok. It would be nice if they let Floyd's bump up again. It didn't look like they blew at all but the big guns were set up and ready to go for tonight. It's going to be bitter cold so I'm expecting the finest man made powder for tomorrow. See you there. Sorry about the double post. Can a mod delete the second one?

C1er, good points. .... Little Cliff Huck is still very skiable. I doubt we'll ever see it on the map again but when there's enough snow you can easily ski / jump it.

Agreed they are better than most but Blue's fries are better.

I would add Tuscarora to Mohawk in there too. But it's close.

While I love skiing at Jack Frost I wouldn't mind seeing a few changes / upgrades to make a great place even better. Here's a list of things I would like to see happen (in no particular order) in the near future . Since I ski mainly at Frost most of what I have is directed there. 1) Replace the east mt.and abstract chairs with high speed lifts. 2) Night skiing at Jack Frost 3) Nastar 4) Clear out some of the branches and brush from the elevator to make it more skiable 5) Get french fries like the ones at Blue 6) When BB is the first to open, blow on the boulder park and/or mittl-weg trails along with freedom to spread the crowds out. 7) Maybe open JF with a trail or two at the same time BB opens and possibly close JF in Mid April along with BB. 8) Bring the $50 JFBB bucks back with purchase of a season pass. 9) Keep JF open until 5pm later in the season when there's still plenty of daylight. That's all I got for right now. Feel free to add to the list.

What's up with this "database"? What happens if you're name is in it...are you banned from buying a season pass the next year? Anyway I can't wait to see the show.

I hate having to pay that quarter each way I think JFBB should set up something with Split Rock so that pass holders dont have to pay those quarters every day. 50 cents a day adds up through the course of the season. Sweet TR by the way Oakley. I was wondering how it went with all of the rain. Sounds like a great time.

Just back from JF for the first time since Monday. Today was busy to say the least. I got there a little after 11 completely forgetting that it was Presidents Day Weekend. I ended up parking in lot 6!!! which is all the way in the back by the Lake Mountain Club. And it was crowded even in Lot 6. Got my ticket and made my way over to Thunderbolt. Crowds and Lift lines (although not long lines) were the norm today. After Thunderbolt I made my way over to East hoping for less people which I found but nevertheless it was still busy. I skied River Shot a few times then Floyd's. The upper part of Floyd's has a lot of exposed icy spots as does parts of River Shot. The trees are a crusty icy snow...kinda like cardboard. Definitely not the best thanks to the rain / freeze thaw a few days ago. Stayed for maybe 1 1/2 hours and called it a day. I guess I'm spoiled when it comes to crowds skiing mostly mid week so I was definitely not prepared for the number of people today...given that the snow is still in excellent shape (on the trails).

I missed yesterday unfortunately. They closed schools early because of the the snow and I had to pick up the little one. This storm was nasty yesterday / last night. Right now there 's a think fog and it's pouring...I'm debating whether or not I want to ski in this. Whatever powder we had from yesterday is now gone I'm sure.

I was there once a few years ago. If you're a beginner and live in or near Philly then i would say it's perfect.

I mean when it is groomed

The Pocono shuffle is tough to do on Floyd's because you pick up so much speed. I tend to carve wide turns on it (when it's not groomed).

Just got back from another excellent day at Jackson Frost . The theme for today was packed powder and cold smoke. It was around 8 degress when I got there. There was no wind and a bluebird sky. The snow was a perfect packed powder corduroy. Everything is in excellent condition. I made my usual laps on East. River Shot had a nice layer of man made snow on top that was like butter. Floyds was a carver's dream easily some of the best runs I've taken on that trail all year. I then went over to Challenge / glade. There is decent coverage but the second headwall is still lookin' a little rough. It's best to enter it down below to the right of Challenge through the trees and down to the East Mt. lift. The snow at the bottom of the glade to the lift was like silk. Top Part of the glade Took a break to warm up, got cheese fries...(just another reason to love JF by the way...they don't charge for the cheese). Then it was out to the One park glade which I did a few times. Then back over to East where I hit Floyd's and River Shot a few more times. But this time I stopped on River Shot and beared right on the final head wall into the Elevator which was really fun (I think thats part of the Elevator). I did that a few times and called it a day. Today was easily one of the top three of the season. I can't wait to get back tomorrow.

They both have short / steep pitches. A fully bumped Floyd's is more intimidating than anything at CB IMO but it's definitely JF's glade areas that put it a notch above for me. Risk It is the only "trail" in the area that makes me think twice before skiing...most of the time it's because the snow can be sketchy though. Sno on the other hand has more on the map steep sections than both IMO.

Just returned and you nailed it...The snow was incredibly good given all of the rain. I know I said I would try to be there early but I didn't get there until around noon and found a pretty crowded parking lot. I took one run and met up with Rideordie7 who I had the pleasure of taking a number of runs with and watching him kill it in the park. Everything has decent coverage right now and the snow is a polar opposite from what we experienced on Wednesday. There is even still some snow in the trees to the right of Challenge and One Park which was fun. They're talking about some snow over the weekend and early next week so things are looking up. Once again props to JF for great conditions today.

Cool, I'll look for you if I'm there tomm which is looking good right now. I'm usually doing laps on the East Mt. / abstract lifts.

Today at JF was definitely not hero snow. The snow today is hard to describe... kinda like an ungroomed, frozen granular / ice. The kind that makes that real loud scrapy sound when you make a turn. As the day wore on it softened a bit and I could edge it ... still not the greatest. But still no bare spots although some icy / thin spots but most importantly...still open.

Timeless are you considering switching to JFBB?

I just got back and had a great time in the rain. I normally never ski in the rain but today I'm glad I did. It wasn't raining when I left but as I rode up the access road the fog grew thicker at the higher elevations and the rain started falling. It was a steady rain pretty much the entire time. The snow is a very fast wet granular...really fun to carve. There are a few brown spots but thats it...no bare. The one big one is just before the last headwall on River Shot. There were also a few sketchy areas on Thunderbot in the normal spots (to the right of the lift poles on the headwalls) but nothing major. I saw maybe 30 people the entire time. It was POURING with loud thunder this morning and I thought it would be ugly but Jack Frost never ceases to amaze me. Conditions are great. Tomoorow maybe different however with the warmup.
