  1. Anyone heading up? I plan on leaving Philly about 4:00 AM, on the mountain by late morning. Skiing Sunday, half day Monday then heading home.
  2. Hahahaha! Me at Camelback 2:00 on a Saturday? funny. But on hard snow, they do carve and hold a great turn. I was very surprised.
  3. I am not suggesting a 90mm wasted ski, but more in the upper 70's. I first demoed the Metrons at Elk and fell in love with them there, they worked awesome in all conditions. I never thought I would ever ski anything over a 112/73/100ish but when I got on the Metrons, they totally changed my mind. Open you minds.
  4. Reading the thread of the Recon vs. the 4800, most of the alternatives that were offered we to narrower skis? Why is that? No one mentioned a Metron or Hot Rod that are in the upper 70-80mm waste range. Do you not think a 75mm wasted ski can be skied on the Pocs? Has anyone tried one of these skis and saw how it just busts through that early morning crud and late day piles of powder (granulated sugar))? Something like a Metron still will have a low to mid teens in the turn radious, granted 75mm in the waste is a bit more to roll over but it will carve one hellava turn. Just curious. *note, there is no mention of Ebay vs. Stores in this thread.
  5. I was up to the to of Mitchell over the summer, when it was 95+ here, when we got there it was 57 deg and that was mid August. Talking to some of the rangers, people do ski up in the winter and ski it. There are 41 mountains in the east that are over 6000 feet. 40 of them are down in that area. Mt. Washington in #17 on the list. There are some big beautiful mountains down in Nort Carolina and West Virginia.
  6. Depending in whats open next weekend, I might head up.

    "The Ski"

These are handbuilt skis, I am sure the tollerences aren't what a race ready ski woud be. a little sagebrush in the base will have no effect of performance.
  8. Am I disapointed? Yes, but not overly. I would love to go up the weekend ont the 18th, but if I don't it won't kill me. I had no intentions of skiing over T-giving anyway. Erly December I do plan on going up at least 4 times though. I jsut hopes its better than last year.
  9. Doesn't look like Vermont will be skiable till December. T-giving weekend, even if they do open will be a zoo on 4 trails.

    "The Ski"

    What??
  11. Hunter is usually good for a pre Thanksgiving opening. Unfortunatly, it wasn't last nor does it look good for this season either.

    "The Ski"

The skis are suprisingly stiff torsonally. I think they actually might be a good eastern ski, provided the snow it not boilerplate.

    "The Ski"

I am sure the old timers here might remember "The Ski" but did you know that Bobbie Burns is still producing them in Sun Valley. You know hoe much of a gear junky/afficiando I am..I just had to get my hands on a pair. Last year I came across a pair on Craigslist, but chose to pass them up. Over the course of time, I was questioning that decision. This past week I chose to shoot the guy who had them an e-mail to see if he sitll had them. Sure enough he did. Still being inquisitive I had to do some more research on them. I found "The Ski"'s web site http://theski.us/ and made a phone call. I talked to a man there for about 20 minutes about the products. He told me all about the process and how the skis were made. I thinked him and asked him his name, it was THE Bobbie Burns. I will say, these are neat skis. They are 111/71/97 for the shape and mounted with Marker Piston 1200's. What is also cool about these is if you hold them up to the light, there are opaque and you can see through them. Also each ski has a piece of sagebrush imbedded in them. These skis have never seen snow and I am not sure if thy will. These are on line with the Bognar ski in uniqueness and price. I was dinda disapointed that they come from the factory with Markers. I would have liked to find some Spademans to put on them. I will post pics either later today or tomorrow.
  15. Yep. 1/3.
  16. Don't question it. We need "gapers", they pay the bills. If it wasn't for them spending a ton of money...skiing would be expensive for us.
  17. I paid 369 for a season pass for ASC, infact I bought 3 of them. If I get in 5 days, it pays for it's self. I will get 3x at that ASC. But I have a free place to stay up there.
  18. I assumed they WEREN'T opening this weekend so I changed my schedule. I would have to have an October day in under my belt. Now it looks like I can't get up there for another 2 week's, I have something scheduled for next Sunday.
  19. Some of the new shorter aggressive sidecut skis like my Metrons do NOT get detuned. Make sure that do the correct side and base bevels.
  20. No one gives me credit for praising The Ski Bum, Nestors and Langhorne as shops. No one gives me crdit for telling PASR to open up the forum to ALL of PA skiing and riding and not just the Poconos, but people are baiting me into slamming the Poconos. I said nothing bad in this thread until it was brought up to me. I just answered the points with my opinion. I was talking about Hunter and belleayre and Ski999 brought up the Pocs' Edit: It's late and I am off to bed.
  21. LOL< I was thinking that there was hope for you
  22. When I was your age (teens, I assume) I was in the same boat. You do what you can. Just as a note, I didn't start this as a "Bashing the Poconos" thread. (but somehow it alsways turns into one when I am involved )
  23. Don't get me wrong...If this was Jauary and I lived in the Pocs...I would probably have a pass and would have been on the mountain making a few turns instead of sitting on my butt watching TV tonight. So, I put skiing in the Pocs one step up from Donald Trump and "The Aprrentice" . Just kidding. I will pick and choose my times.
  24. I don't think Boomer or White lightning are as steep as Lower K27 and not as (overall) long as Claire Way. I lost a pair of Oakley's because I parked up by the North Face at Montage. It's a sore subject with me. I can hide on the mountain with the best of Navy Seal. I can hide at Killington, Hunter and even Okemo on any Holiday weekend. I never even brought up crowds as being an issue. You have complained more about Hunter and K-tons crowd than me, I never mentioned them as an issue As much as the terrain of Hunter (1600 ft vert) and a nice top to bottom grade. but it is also the quality of the snow. It is not the ice that is covered by the granulated sugar that Blue, Camelback, Shawnee and Montage are know for. Elk (andJack Frost (I have been lucky there in years past)) that blow a better snow. I love a good groomer for a high speed run World Cup and Nor'Easter are two of my favorite guilty pleasures at Okemo. I don't think I am being negative but realistic and not as one minded as that the Poconos are the end all of skiing just because they are in your back yard. I think a lot of the "Pocono backing" is rationalizasions (sp) because of their proximity to where you are.
  25. Sorry, but "pleasant" isn't what I am looking in a ski area.
