http://m.thetimes-tribune.com/news/regional-briefs-10-12-2011-1.1217014 Second fatality in PA this year. It's a real shame. I never knew this was a big issue.

I either look like a 2 planker or a noob... Which are basically the same right? -

Steeze is really going back far to pull some of these threads lately... But seriously, it is way above average temps lately lol -
Jeff, can you add a feature to the rating system that reduces the amount of posts you can have a day for a large number of repeated negative ratings? I mean seriously, how many positive posts did you give Doug for shits and giggles, and we are almost back at a neutral rating?

A Basin and Loveland are gonna be pissed (wolfcreekopensonsaturday)

Snow guns are rolling in CO. They showed some pictures on TWC this morning and talked to the marketing director at Wolf Creek. They said they were expecting a 3 day weekend total of about 4,000 skiers. They also said that it had started snowing lightly and was expected to continue throughout the day. They were considering themselves open for the season, but will probably only operate weekends until November due to Wolf Creek's location and expected early season skier visits. Lots of good powder shots. Definitely looks like it was worth opening. Lots of stoke out there. -

Little bit of a dark horse coming out of nowhere, but if you've got the snow, why not use it? Glad to hear the season is underway... -
They've got a decent window and some natural coming through. However, their system is so weak, it's takes forever for them to open that trail. They need a huge window at the base...

Just checked out DCSki, and they have written an article that totals Snowshoe's snowfall from last weekend. They total it at 9 inches, have some swanky pics, and state that they tested the snowmaking system. First legitimate resort snowfall and snowmaking in West Virginia? I'm calling Shenanigans...

Yeah... There were some threads on it earlier in the year. I think it was a good move for all parties involved. I guess the upcoming season will tell us the truth...

I tend to agree... We definitely get spoiled with these early season openings, event if it is just T2 at the River or the NRT trail pod at Killington. It's nice to see. I hope SR gets their trail open for Halloween, but if they have T2B by mid November (which only takes 3 days), I'll be happy...

Unfortunately, it looks like we've got another warm front coming through, but after that I'm hoping it will drop. Temps are close to 15 degrees above average. It's definitely nice to see. That second picture is really sweet. Good color, especially with some white!!! Unfortunately, it looks like we've got another warm front coming through, but after that I'm hoping it will drop. Sorry Root, but the realist in you lost this one. Sunday River confirms that the mice were blown out this morning!!! Bring it!!!

I completely forgot that accuweather was going to update their model at the beginning of October. Time has really flown by since their last update. Looks like the forecast is similar to years past for NEPA. What year was it where we would get warmth for a week, a snowstorm, then cold for a week? For like two months. Or is that every year? Looks like the Springs will post a third consecutive 200 in plus season. I've still got a month, but with that forecast, I'm really hoping the job pans out. It should be an epic winter either way!!!

Your such a buzzkill... Last year even magic mountain tested them on September 26 lol
-
With high temperatures creeping back into the low 60s on Friday, and lows in the 40s, we won't be seeing any snowmaking with the intention of opening, but with lows of 25 and 20 tonight and tomorrow, I would bet we see some resorts blowing out the mice.
-
I'm surprised there is any variety... Very rare for a PA ski resort...

They buying at the sale too?

That's the thread pinned above this one lol, but it says not yet...

The fraternity house at Lehigh used to be managed and budgeted by the fraternity brothers. By the time I got there, the university had taken over all aspects of house management except for the food budget. However, before this, the brothers goal was to hold out on turning on the heat until after Thanksgiving. I heard our living room would hover in the mid 40s some years before they turned it on. Saved them a bunch of money, and back then they used the fireplace more often than for several special occasions. Now the undergrads can waste as much as they want whenever they want. All factored in to the current pricing model. Two years ago when I lived with my roommate, we had a mild October and didn't turn the heat on until November 10th when the temp was just about 60 inside.

Half of Sawmill high speed quad was actually paid for by the developer to boost the price of his sales. Smart move, and they got three new trails out of it...

Each to his own, but other than the excess of MILFs at Windham, there is very little to entertain me there. I don't get bored often, but I was bored there after about 2 or 3 hours. Little to no pitch with nothing that challenging. If your not up for Plattekill (which isnt really known for early season), then your best early season bet for terrain and lift infrastructure for crowds is going to be Hunter. They aim for Thanksgiving but have opened earlier if weather permits...

While season temps have been higher than average (other than these past two days), it looks like temps at Sunday River and Killington will dip below freezing on Thursday. I wonder if they will blow the mice out? Should be possible at higher elevations. Temps also appear to be dropping at Loveland by the end of this week, so I would be surprised if we didn't hear from them sometime soon also...

Hopefully I won't get into any River/Loaf throw downs at the bar... River goers apparently don't have a beef with the Loaf, but the Loaf apparently holds a grudge against the River... Ive heard that for several years now...

If I were available, I would be more than willing to show you guys around the mountain, since I think very few of you have actually been there, but I think its a little too far for a weekend trip...

Official word comes out in the beginning of November once they have a final count of who will be coming back and who is not. I'm still fairly certain I'm in good shape, but I won't know until then. Doesn't leave me much time to find a place to stay, but thats the least of my worries until that issue presents itself. Word on the street is that Blue Knob posted 2 inches from this little storm. If your lucky Big Boulder will have some T Day turns this year. Camelback had a hike park one year (although they could have opened from the top with lift service), and a couple years ago Blue opened on that Friday, but your definitely going to be lucky to get that. Your best bet for a close mountain will be something in the Catskillz. Most likely Hunter will have a couple runs, and sometimes Belleayre has a couple runs on the top of the mountain. Other than that, your looking at Vermont or bust... Awesome video. Definitely huge for stoke. When were you down there again? How were the Sawmill Glades? They are the only on map glades, and they weren't there when I was there last.
