Can't just pop a tent anywhere... That would be unsettling to say the least... -

I'd love to make it, but my weekends are booked solid the next 4 weeks, and that may be my only weekend im not traveling... -
I don't know what the weather is like up there, but we've consistently got to low 80s in the day and mid 60s at night... Feels great having the windows open after running the AC two months straight...
-
I thought you put ski related stuff and trips on plastic? That being said, it only got under 70 in the wee hours last night, so AC was still on, but it is off now, and I felt a slight chill when I first went outside this morning...
-
I live in one of the flattest states in the nation... I would take Spring Mountain lol
-
Springs is basically in Ohio, but isn't BK in the middle of the state?
-
Controversial comments there lol... Blue Knob and 7 Springs don't even make the argument?
-
Best shit you'll ski on... I'd love to do a PASR day there lol
-
I don't even look at ski mag... But out of the PA resorts I've been to, it has to have the best grooming... Definitely not the best snowmaking... Most likely not even the best snow since Blue Knob averages over 100" and 7 Springs has posted back to back 200"+ the past 2 seasons...
-
If I'm not in VT or ME this winter, then I would love to be there for that mini PASR rendevouz...
-
This girl your dating must be crazy... First she dates you, and now she's letting you make popcorn...
-
Most of them are voted on by street cred and popularity, so it is pretty much bullshit... However, when it comes to grooming hardpack shit, elk does it better than blue lol
-
I have always been an Elk groupie... I was a CB groupie for a year or two since it was the first pocono resort I went to. That being said, I view them both the same way now, but I'd rather haveBlue for a day. CB has a longer season and better grooming, but I'm bored after a couple hours at both... I'm fine at Elk because it takes me longer than that with all the slow lifts
-
Agreed... I want to hit Blue Knob too, I just haven't had the chance... Past that, I just really like elk... It feels good to be there... Could they have better trails? Yes... Could they open glades? Yes... Can they change the mountain and runouts? Perhaps... I like the lack of crowds, better snow, and quite possibly the best grooming in PA... If elk and Blue were side by side, I'd probably ski elk 80% of the time... My only real complaint is lift ticket prices... They are steep. However, with that being said, you'll get done of that back in the cafeteria. Long live Elk. And at this point, planting evergreens is not an improvement in any way shape or form... That section had more than enough of a windbreak...

OutCold used to live here too, but then he moved closer to the promise land... But I definitely jones harder and longer because my season is so short... -
Elk's potential is through the roof... The big problem is that the owner regards it as a trophy and the GM has been there many years and only aims for the status quot... They need some younger/newer blood that will breathe some life into the mountain with some new ideas... For starters, a new website and a Facebook account, both of which are cheap, would be a good start...
-
I totally agree... Elk could have some really good glades, both steep and low angle... They could have some real defined entrances also... Since all the trails are lined with thick spruce/fir trees, they could easily take one down (gasp) and create an entrance... Unless you get lucky, it is tough sometimes to find a gap...

I'm always stoked to have a new active member... Helps breathe some life into the site lol -

I agree... Temps were only in the upper 30's, so I think it's a stretch, but who am I to question what mountain ops says lol -
Glades are the best option lol... Guns for the glades?
-
So that's how the locals keep the crowds down... Keep them in the fields... I haven't been in awhile when there is snow on the roads, but it's usually worse on the straight section...

Snows every month on Mt. Washington except for July... So im betting it has lol -
Luckily they spend money on things that need it, they just don't go above and beyond the call of duty... They continue to upgrade snowmaking, repaired the roof on the main lodge, and are fixing up the picnic lodge. They also keep many seasonal employees employed year round by doing most of the work themselves. As long as they keep doing well with the current format I doubt that much will change... But I can thing of some things that would be nice changes or additions...

I'll keep trying harder... Definitely rises the stoke market... Heard some crazy rumor that there were some fine snow particles this morning at the peak of the Bush... Even if its bullshit, we are definitely getting closer... In another month there will probably be snow falling out west, snowmaking at Loveland and A-Basin, and snowmaking tests in the NE... Sweet!!! -
I'm glad they repaved it... The road to elk was bad, but past elk was absolutely terrible... Definitely an upgrade the mountain didn't have to pay for... I'm bummed about the cops... I usually take the whole road (minus the curves) at like 50 to 60 (I think it's a 35)... Really cuts down on time, and some sections can take that speed, especially since there is no entering traffic... It is what it is, and maybe they will be gone in the winter... I'm looking forward to going back, as I am every year... I just wish there would be some "big" improvements... Elk has so much more to offer...
