Yeah, if your getting lake effect pounded with a real storm thrown in there, I am sure it is tough to find the bottom, but I have heard that a real good base building storm with a little higher moisture content would set up the natural for the rest of the season...

Are you not instructing anymore?

What kind of a year has it been at Sno so far? Busier than past years?
-
Looks like it is going to be mostly a mix event even down into the Southern Green Mountains... Looks like Central VT and NH should be an all snow event... The good thing is that it will finally be a base building snow... Even in places such as Killington and Stowe, where they are having good snow years so far, they haven't really had much base building snow... All of the snow that has fallen has been blower pow that has been during or right before a major holiday period... And even then, it hasn't been followed by a warmup which means there is little ice or hardpack... Most of this new snow has been going straight on the ground and has been easy to scrape off straight to dirt... If it continues to stay cold (which they are expecting), then this is really going to set the Northeast up very well... Especially with the possibility of another decent snow on Friday... A little more than a dusting in some places Moe...

SoVT... There's too much uncertainty... I'm with Steeze on this one... I'll wait it out until tomorrow for something more to develop...

I've been looking at a bunch of the NWS and TWC forecasts, and most of them have snow with a small amount of wintry mix. I havent seen any possible snowfall totals yet. Told the bosses about possibly moving the meeting Tuesday and they seemed agreeable, so if a good amount is supposed to fall, then I will be there... Early forecasts seem to say at least 7 inches, but I'm thinking I may need a foot or 18" to really persuade me...

In truth Steeze, Gore is probably a very similar distance to some of the VT mountains... If you look at a map, Gore and Killington are almost directly across from one another, and since Killington is accessed by several 65 mph highways while many of the roads to Gore after getting off 87 are 55 or slower, the times are also very similar. Gore has a different variety of terrain than Killington, and has a much more laid back feel. They definitely aren't nearly as sold out, but are more of a large day trip mountain. It is not a resort, so it doesnt have any on mountain amenities. They do have a couple really good groomers and some excellent glades, but they are farther west, so they miss out on most of the coastal Nor Easters (more lake effect though), and they do not have a real powerful snowmaking system. It would be like comparing Belleayre to Hunter. That being said, if you hit it on the right day, it can have great snow, good trails, and good fun. You just won't know for sure until you give it a try...

Just since I love to give you Blue Groupies a hard time, I wouldn't be surprised if Blue got mix and the Toe got snow... You might have to do a little driving to get your PA Poe Steeze...

Yeah, seriously... Where are the pics? This wouldn't happen if I had been to Gore... Especially with my snazzy newish camera lol

Storm is still a little ways out, but it would appear that another winter storm will be gracing us with its presence. Unfortunately, it would appear that this storm will be drawing more warm air down than the last storm and will be mostly an interior event opposed to the coastal event we saw earlier this week. It also appears that there will be a decent amount of ice in parts of Pennsylvania and Eastern New England. However, NEPA, the skillz, the Greens, and the Whites could see substantial snowfall depending on when the coastal low links up with the front coming out of Canada. Right now there are no solid snowfall estimations, but I am considering delaying my meeting on Tuesday to come up into NE to catch some freshies if the storm intensifies. If they post some solid snowfall predictions, I may make it happen (even though I am going to K-Mart the 25th-28th). With the snowfall from this last storm being groomed down and packed down, it should make for a decent base for additional snowfall. Lets see what happens...

I'd poach Burnt Ridge and have my friend pick me up down at the ski Bowl... You could definitely grab some untracked runs there... Love that place...
-
Haven't been to Stowe, but the Bush is definitely dead... There is nothing going on at night on mountain and as Steeze said, there are some bars off mountain, but mostly bar restaurant types... If your going midweek, there is definitely nothing... I have heard the new Hostel that opened up several miles down on 100 has a good night crowd, but nothing special...

Ive been checking reports that have been saying 4-6 at Elk, 7-12 in the Skillz, and 10-20 in Southwest VT... Take your pick Moe, but don't go too far South... Plattekill Powder Day? I don't know what their opening policy is...

Elk does have those swanky new racks with locks that have keys that can be bought at the ski shop...

College Deal Guidelines
Ride Delaware ? replied to Heather-Big Boulder's topic in Jack Frost & Big Boulder
Lucky you... Mine definitely says expires in May 2008... Damn graduation... -
I understand what your saying old time skier... And it definitely has a different feel... I've just learned that its easier to not use that terminology on PASR than to deal with the aftermath that ensues when you do use it... No matter how many times its been said, somebody will inevitably bring it up again and again...
-
I am sorry they lie in their stats... I didn't like it enough to take any extra equipment with me to prove it right or wrong... Either way, I can understand not driving the extra time to Elk just to relieve some jonesing. However, it arguably has better terrain than Blue, is definitely less crowded, and hands down has better conditions... If I were you, I would definitely have the pass to Blue and frequent there as much as you... But I would definitely take a trip to Elk once or twice a season... Its worth an extra hour from the Toe...

I would agree with that... Except the only southern New York mountain I have been to is GP, and I honestly wasn't that impressed... That could be for a litany of reasons starting with: I was a noob, it was nearly 7 years ago, and it was spring skiing... But I also didn't like the terrain... Found a bunch of it to be very flat... Its definitely a stretch to compare it to the skills... I have been to Windham, Belleayre, and Hunter, and while I do believe it is better than Windham (I have never been so bored on a 1,600' vert mountain), it definitely doesn't compare straight up with Hunter or Bell. And while I haven't been there, I would imagine from all the good rep it gets, it pales in comparison to Plattekill... That being said, I dont know what to categorize it as...
-
I haven't been to Springs or Knob (although it is on my list this year), but I would have to agree with you J Law... I am a huge Elk groupie, but I would never put it in the same category as VT or NH... I hate it when people even try to mention that... It doesn't feel like NEPA, but it definitely doesn't feel like NE...
-
It puts Blue in a different class... I don't know if that means that it gives it class...
-
Go to Elk... I'm betting they get at least 3-6... Maybe more if the trough drops another couple miles...
-
I want an update bluemt1988... Mobile devices with the internet are mandatory for trip updates and mandatory stoke...
-
I think we all know its worth a full day lift ticket, especially since the majority of the terrain is open... The possibility of 4-8 inches of snow really seals the deal... Take some pics for stoke!!!
-
Ok... Lets get past measuring our dicks, and get back to the important thing at hand... Snow... Since I have to shovel all of this snow that falls, I always root for it to miss me, but hit the northeast... Whether that is PA or NE, I truly don't give a shit... Basically, if it snows there, and not here, then I can leave home and go hit the freshies... Especially since I paid off last months CC, got sick (so I didnt make it to Sunday River this week), and need to satisfy some stoke... That being said, it looks like this storm will miss me, but not really dump enough to make it worth me going up to the skills... On a weekend nonetheless... On the flip side, it looks like next weeks storm (if the models hold true), will pound the northeast, including me... No rest for the weary... I really was looking forward to a little NE road trip too...
