When are you going to start implementing your plan to move out west and manage from afar?
-
I’m guessing that most of them couldn’t remember their login info if they wanted to. $399 is a good deal. I think anything $500 and under is decent for Pennsylvania. Elk is out of their mind at their SP rate.
-
Did you buy him out? I figured he would be on it for the foreseeable future... or forever.
-
I posted this before, but it disappeared. Greek Peak was one of my first spring skiing experiences back when I was doing college tours. I had fun, but I really didn’t scrutinize resorts like I do now. I’ve heard that the new owners have been investing in snowmaking and that the indoor water park has made a big difference. I doubt I’ll make it there again, but you never know...

It would be pretty awesome to get all of these old school posters back for a year. I wonder how many of them still lurk...

That’s a bummer. I only got to meet Vinny one time at Sugarbush. I appreciate it when people stop by and say hello. Actually, it might have been Sunday River. I can’t recall, but it has been years...
-
That’s right. I remember that. Isn’t he out yet? Was it a long sentence?
-
Didn’t some of the JFBB see Robert2 a couple times after you scared him off? Why would Melissa and Vinny stop skiing? I know life caught up with Vinny (kids right?), but he was just getting into it a couple years ago...
-
Looking back at these old threads, so many people have come and gone. Ski, Fluffy, Robert2, VTMark, Vinny, and Melissa just to name a few...

That’s why I chose to patrol when I worked up north full time. I got 7 days a week on snow if I wanted. First tracks on all the good stuff. Now that I volunteer at Sugarbush I still get plenty of time on the snow, but I have to make a trek up there in order to get it. I’d look into it next season if you are able...

Throwback to 10 years ago when BB posted the earliest PA opening in recent memory... Also, other than GSS scaring him off, whatever happened to Robert2?

I totally get the logic. It’s only 1-2 more days on the hill over the course of a season. It really comes down to whether that will satisfy the desire until PA ski season or just make it worse because you can’t have it for another month. I’ve only made the trip specifically for that once or twice, and it’s only possible because my job is flexible. I would rather wait until the local hill opened than wait at Killington on a weekend.
-
It’s not worth it to go opening day. Luckily, if the snow conditions allow, Killington runs 7 days a week once they open. Wait 2-3 days for a weekday, and you’ll probably have 2 runs with 100 other people. That’s worth it if you’re really jonesing and have the time to do it.

They’ve done some pretty substantial upgrades since they put in the lodge/water park and changed hands. I know snowmaking was a priority. I haven’t been in about 15 years and I went for spring skiing. It was fun, but I wasn’t looking into details like I do now.

Pretty much the only deal you’ll find on this early season is the 2 for 1 deal they will post later this month. I’ve camped out by the lift ticket kiosk before and shared with a stranger. Knocks it down to thirty and change.

The Stairway to Heaven is annoying, but it’s a no brainer for early season skiing. Easily extends their season 2-3 weeks in marginal temps when everyone else is too warm to make snow. If you have the ability to go midweek, it’s actually a great trail pod up there. It’s just mayhem on weekends.

Does Root ever ski before Root Friday? You usually have at least Belleayre with an upper mountain trail or two and Hunter from the top on Root Friday. Maybe you have Belleayre a week before that. Killington is only 3 weeks ahead of that. I could easily see saving the time and money to wait.

I actually believe that’s pretty seasonal... -
Is anyone trying the WROD at Killington this season? Assuming the 2 for 1 comes out?
-
What a great purchase on the unofficial last day of summer. 6-7 weeks and Killington could be open. Maybe...

Once again, that’s a PA mindset. For the New Englanders you need to bump it back a holiday. Everything before Thanksgiving is a bonus. -

Close to 3 months until BB probably has something open. About 2 months until Killington opens. They are going to have to open early this year if I’m making it in October. I’ve got a cruise planned the last couple days of October and early November. -

Also, Old Farmer’s Almanac says warm ish/not great ski season. Farmer’s Almanac says a baller ski season. Take your pick. -

Okemo has a pretty impressive system. They also have a unique mindset on when to open terrain. Many resorts in VT will open with minimal coverage but keep the guns on to add to snow depth. However, Okemo will often move to another trail as soon as they have the basic requirements in order to boost trail counts. I’ve seen many trails there littered with snirt and rocks trying to push it too hard too fast. Sunday River probably has the best ability to open terrain quickly when the temps cooperate. 30 trails with decent depth is standard by Thanksgiving when temps cooperate. They also straddle several different peaks so the crowds are better dispersed. Killington used to be the undisputed king of expansion by Thanksgiving, but as stated above, that has taken a serious hit with the World Cup. Now they might have 15 trails open plus the WC, whereas they used to have close to 40 with the possibility of Killington Peak, Snowdon, and Ramshead open by then. I’ve seen many articles written on the WC at Killington, and surprisingly, for all the money and effort they put into it, they barely profit. It mostly serves as an expensive advertisement. Much like biker weekend or car weekend in OC MD, it brings people to the area, and fills restaurants, bars, and hotels, but it doesn’t put many people on the slopes. They have been getting grants to help offset the cost. I’d rather have better terrain open for my pass holders (they get shafted the most from the WC), but they must have it figured out. -

Let me know. Work has been hectic, so I can’t say how often I’ll be up, but it should be more consistent than last year.
