  1. How many year plan is this?
  2. That's a lot of tombstones...
  3. You'll be fine. I would guess that you'll have t2b terrain off of at least Killington and Snowdon, and If temps really cooperate, Ramshead. Temps are going to kick into high gear next week. I think it's a good call to fly out west, but I think Killington will sneak in t2b on Thanksgiving. Temps should allow for it and the niar doesn't appear to be as bad as it first seemed.
  4. Years like this are often times when the northeast sees 300" seasons. The snow doesn't start until late Feb/March, but they can easily rack up 100" in a short time if atmospheric conditions permit. It also helps snowfall totals in that being "warmer" means wet snow which accumulates much faster due to flake size.
  5. They are forecasting up to 3/4 an inch of rain. The high temp is 50 and then it will be dropping into Friday and Saturday night. With the snow still in piles and relatively less dense, the rain won't do that much damage. I think Killington stands to lose the most on the Great Northern connector from the K-1 Gondi to the NRT. That part always melt out fast and has the thinnest base this time of year.
  6. Looks like Sunday is the day when winter really gets started. Projected highs in VT in the upper 30s should mean snowmaking around the clock at elevation. The cold temps have helped SR and Killington make some headway. Killington now has 3 routes off the NRT with skiing down to the base of the triple. Before today you had to use the Stairway to Heaven both directions. They have started to work their way towards the base, but there is a bunch of work left to do. Sunday River is "t2b" but some walking is required. They have continued to blow Sunday Punch, but they are also concentrating on Aurora since the base temps there are lower than Sunday Punch and they can circumvent no t2b skiing. This would allow for uploading and downloading via the chondi. Win just posted an update on SkiMRV saying that they needed another 24 hours to get Jester/Downspout to Heaven's Gate ready for the public. Some mountain ops folks skied it and said there are still some thin spots. If they get good production tonight, there might be a chance at this weekend with up/down loading, but Win made it sound more realistic that the day will be Thanksgiving. If that extra 4 days allows them to push to the base, I'll take that.
  7. Apparently he can afford Taos skiing...
  8. I have been to Elk a litany of times, can safely say I've been one of the biggest supporters of them on PASR, have been there multiple times in the spring, and I can only think of one trail being bumped up, and that's Tunk. They sometimes let one or two stay ungroomed if it snows for a day or two, but they groom that out quick... That being said, Tunk does have some great bumps...
  9. With the temps dropping and looking real good next week, these next 10 days are going to be tough to concentrate...
  10. I think most resorts in NY, VT, ME, and NH will be targeting that date this year so that Thanksgiving isn't a total bust. Jiminy and Wa-Wa will probably make a go for it too.
  11. If there ain't death cookies, it ain't Blue...
  12. You must have really been trying...
  13. Jeff must be holding out on him...
  14. Completely agree, but Lake Placid isn't what I would call close. Everyone thinks Lake Placid is synonymous with WF, but I thought it was closer than it was. I go to ride. Surrounding amenities don't do much for me.
  15. That's good, because I think that's what the weather has planned... And you'll like it.
  16. Unfortunately, it's tough to plan ahead with your forecasting...
  17. It's true, the fact that Gore has very distinct pods that are only accessed by flat traverses is annoying. It's just personal opinion that I like it better for reasons I can't quite quantify. Once you've dealt with the flatness known as SR, Gore doesn't seem so bad...
  18. It's out in the middle of nowhere. Limited amenities. Some of the terrain got repetitive, but I enjoyed the steepness, view, snow quality, and lift infrastructure. I'll go back this year. That being said, I still prefer Gore...
  19. Whiteface was perty sweet when I went. Wish I had gone a week earlier so more trees were in play, but you work with what you've got...
  20. Could you imagine if you were the king of a pierogie and tombstone company? The cross advertising platform would lead to staggering sales numbers...
  21. Personally, I still find Mt. Snow and Bromley to be similar to Okemo in terms of terrain. Not a make or break, but just how I feel. Magic, bar none, has the best terrain in the southern half of VT. It's just tough getting it sometimes with limited terrain and lift openings.
  22. Other than the trees, I don't know if they really have any trails that are natural only trails. Those are becoming much rarer in the Northeast. SR also grooms the crap out of everything. Very annoying.
  23. Okemo is on the lower end of snowfall in VT, but it is by no means something to sneeze at. It's on par with the snow offerings in the Catskillz. I want to say they average "170? Granted most snowfall totals are calculated at the peak, so the base may very well be closer to 100". Killington is just an hour north, but it averages 250" at the peak. I'd have trouble believing that they hit 150" down by Skyeship @ Rt. 4.
  24. I pretty much do what Smartass said. I use a bunch of them to formulate my own opinion on the weather. I like NOAA within 7 days, but I do find their forecasts to be quite optimistic at times.
  25. They do a remodel of the Valley Lodge? They better still have GSS's perogies...
