  1. Averages show the chance of late November, but opening days say that's a stretch...
  2. They pretty much keep the K 3000s and the SR-7s in use solely for early season. Those things use 60 times the air of a Low E gun (roughly 5 cfm to 300 cfm or something close), but they put out like 10 times the snow. There are only so many hydrants to go around, and this early they aren't worried about terrain expansion as much as growing the base in the North Ridge area to continuously operate.
  3. Travel Inn, much like the Econolodge, finally got the boot from the franchisee. Both are now unaffiliated with their respective corporations.
  4. I've stayed at the Comfort in and it's not too shabby. I've also stayed at the Econolodge in Mendon (right between Rutvegas and Killington) many times. The Econolodge is now a "Budget Motel". It's kinda crappy and still allows indoor smoking. The room is only $50 (or less) and its 10 minutes from Killington. Depends on your budget I guess...
  5. Regardless of the crappy customer service, the size of the mountain, and the location, they are an excellent example of how to develop a four season resort if you have the cash and the population to sustain it. Jay has done quite well with theirs and it doesn't have an outdoor water park (climate). This isn't a prototypical model since most places don't have this type of year round population nearby or the access to capital that those consumers could bring, but they have developed it quite nicely. Granted, every resort has its opponents, but if this were at Killington, they would be praised for the planning and infrastructure they have in place.
  6. They might have a chance at some nighttime snowmaking on Friday and then early next week (if the completely unreliable forecast holds), so they may have an outside chance to operate continuously IF Mike decides to stay open tomorrow. Official word coming later today.
  7. Yesterday at the Bush...
  8. Saw pics on KZone and it looked pretty impressive. Since it was limited to pass holders and discount card holders, crowds looked to be in check. They should be able to make some serious headway tonight with summit temps in the low teens. Long range temps drop into some snowmaking range on Friday, so they can definitely resurface. They may have a chance to stay open...
  9. Killington should have temps sometime early Saturday morning. Hourly hints at somewhere around 5-6 AM? Should give them a solid 24 hours + before opening. They won't groom, so it will be more than enough. You'll probably have to hike from the K-1 to AND from the NRT. They will need to pump as much as possible since it doesn't look like any days are real suitable for resurfacing in the 15 day and they want to stay open for the season. Looks like summit temps could be in the teens Sat/Sun night, so they should have good production.
  10. I suffered an ankle injury (partially torn posterior tibial tendon) about 6 weeks ago and have been told to stay away from riding until Nov 1. As much as I want to go, I'll be prudent and wait until it isn't so variable.
  11. I'll be driving by there... So tempting...
  12. They pledge "to be the first open" while Killington pledges to "open and stay open." Since there is a long stretch of warm weather afterward, there is no way Killington could stay open, so they aren't pushing to open. Since SR can open the top half of T2 with 20 hours of snowmaking, and will easily have that, they will blow Sat/Sun and open Monday. It won't last, and they don't run midweek this early anyway, so then they will shut down.
  13. Sunday River just announced that they are opening Monday. And closing Monday...
  14. Looks like the possibility for snow in NoVT. 38 degree high on Saturday at the Bush. It's a nice little change of pace, but the 15 day has it going back up into the low 50s. Skiing is still a bit off...
  15. That map is from 2010. I have however seen several sources that say something will happen with something somewhere and that November will be cooler than average before El Niño ramps up in Dec-Feb.
  16. I hope so, I still don't know the detour without my GPS...
  17. Earliest opening at LL was a couple years ago on Oct. 17? I believe the run there is significantly better than what they offer at A Basin, but since it's twice the vert and just as wide, it takes longer to cover. They don't even have enough firepower to run the whole run at once. I'm hoping to hit Killington late October since Rime only needs about 12-18 hours to be skiable, but temps aren't looking favorable for that either...
  18. The 15 day doesn't show much trending downward, but it can change on the dime. Do you wear a wetsuit Jeff?
  19. November is supposed to be cooler than average before the El Niño really starts settling in...
  20. They can't even get a water park built. I can't imagine the buildout on all of that...
  21. So nobody has actually seen this mythical master plan?
  22. Where's this master plan you speak of?
  23. At some point you couldn't get back to the lift because of pitch. The bottom of Blue is ridiculously flat...
  24. It's not... Last NWS update has it mirroring the Euro and going completely out to sea...
  25. Looks like it's gonna hit NYC as of the 2 PM update which mirrored the 11 AM. Much more confidence tomorrow AM.
