  1. Looks like a shot from 4th or 5th street...
  2. In 2012 the APA approved a large development project in a portion of the Adirondacks that is clinging to life and losing residents. Most of the residents are older and most of the youth has left looking for jobs. The development project would surround the current ski area and would include various ski area improvements and expansions as development increased. Regardless of the feasibility of the project (which seems sketchy at most), the APA ruling was immediately challenged in court by various environmental groups who wish to see these areas entirely void of life and made into a ghost town. Today, two years later, after the ski area has been run only on donations, natural snow, and volunteer efforts, the project ruling was upheld by the appeals court and will be allowed to proceed barring any further appeals to the high court. You have to think that the unanimous ruling would make this a moot point, but they have their rights. While the actual development seems far fetched, it is always nice to see a ski area cling to life. There have been no reports about whether they will open this season, but if they do, I would like to make it, "just in case". http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/216155/appellate-court-knocks-down-challenge-to-big-tupper-development/

  3. Love the view of the mountain in the background. Hope things have been busy for you.
  4. The other bright side is that the northern hemisphere starts cooling after July 21st...
  5. Hiking and primitive style camping. Not the $150k RV style camping you do...
  6. June 21st = the summer solstice = longest day of the year. It's all downhill from here.
  7. It seems like an excellent spot for an L shaped hotel/lodge. Go from the patrol shack around to the current lodge and combine them all into an updated building. I know plans can always change, but the last article I read said they did the feasibility study for a 110 room hotel. They could easily squeeze all that down there.
  8. Do they have space up top for the hotel and the water park?
  9. That is true. Progress isn't always best for the average consumer, especially if it doesn't translate into increased ski area improvement. That's what most of the locals are bitching about on KZone for the proposed village.
  10. What about the ski patrol shack and the side parking lot beside the lodge? They could probably combine and upgrade if it causes the base lodge to see more traffic.
  11. I think the hotel is a great idea as well. I just remember Barb saying that their feasibility study said no hotel would be sustained without a water park. But if their hotel business increases, that wouldn't be a tough sell. I definitely think there's beneficial development to be done there.
  12. I hadn't heard that. Good to know. Didn't see anything about that in the news, but it seems logical. Would the hotel be at the top as well, or at the base where it's flat and there is more space?
  13. They making any progress on this? I'm sure some of the mountain bikers have been up there?
  14. Crazy downpours here, but no hail. As GSS would say, filling up the snowmaking ponds.
  15. That's not at all what I meant. They need to fill rooms which will also help drive the water park revenue. Even if opening T-Day only fills 100 rooms, that's a bunch of revenue with all the other money they will spend. It was just a question. How many other Pocono mountains actually have a hotel at them?
  16. I know there are many things in play here, but I wonder if the addition of the hotel and water park will cause them to lengthen the season. They could have made a Thanksgiving opening and an April 13th close, but they didn't feel the need to push. Is it possible the hotel and the need to hit occupancy numbers will cause this to happen? Could it benefit PA skiers as a whole?
  17. Bethany-Fenwick, but I guess when you live down here, Lewes-Reho-Dewey aren't that far either...
  18. Just weird to hear that people come to my home. Half the time I go to Vermont and they don't know where Delaware is. I'm all about it though. Keeps our economy running.
  19. It's always so weird when people talk about visiting DE lol
  20. Only another month and a half until we start posting about how the days are getting shorter...
  21. Long Trail beers and Unmbrella Bars. Recipe for success. Thanks for the pics.
