  1. Johnny Law is more of an amateur weatherman than myself, but I still think that with Boulder's capacity, slight elevation advantage, and the ability to open Freedom slope in about 24 hours, that they will be able to pull something off. Its like every prediction. While they are predicting above average temps as a whole, there are always periods, some 2-3 days long, that could be much colder than average and produce some really good snowmaking temps. It's not out of the realm of possibility.
  2. Just saw a weather update for the month on the weather channel. They initially had a weird jet stream pod that was going to drop significantly colder than average air into the mid atlantic while the northeast had warmer than average temps. It looks like the uncertainty in the jet stream is working itself out, and the jet stream is not going to drop the way they had expected. It looks like the northeast, specifically the ADK, VT, NH, and western ME will be the beneficiaries of that slight drop in the jet. Look for a decent early season in those states, but it could take a little while to work its way south.
  3. Way to get after it Moe. Leaving us all jealous. Glad to hear the foot is in good shape.
  4. Thats interesting, because Bretton Woods seems to get a bad rep for being pretty mellow and small. I guess its the little things that make every resort different. Just got an update from a buddy who decided to go today to check out the free offering. He said the trail they have open is relatively mellow and wide, so only about half of it to skiers left near the snowguns has skiable coverage, but that where the snow was laying down is pretty deep and lots of fun. Really good quality. He says it is well worth the price. He sent me a pic which I'll try to load later.
  5. I know none of us will likely be able to take advantage of this, mostly because of distance and late notice, but Bretton Woods has put out some serious snow over the past 5 days and will be open tomorrow to the public for free. From what I have heard, they are offering a pretty legit run serviced by it's own quad lift, for the price of FREE. They will be closing tomorrow at 4 during the impending warmup. Awesome gesture. Their Facebook page has snowmaking pics, and the whales look pretty impressive.
  6. I wish Elk did a $29 day. Wishful thinking.
  7. Didn't KC confirm they got rid of that, or is that one of the things they kept?
  8. Somebody point blank asked Killington on Facebook if they are open only weekends, or for the season and their response was "we plan on being open for the season."
  9. Count your blessings that you have the Killington option Moe. Sunday River just posted one of the most blunt mountain reports I have ever seen. I have copied and pasted below. Today at Sunday River We’re still aiming to open tomorrow, but the weather has taken a turn for the worse. As such, we’re going to make the call tomorrow at 6:30 a.m. as to whether or now we can open, and here are the reasons why: It’s much warmer than any of us expected, snowmaking has stopped, temperatures do not look favorable moving forward, leaving each and every one of us thinking: we’ll be damned if we go back on our word to you about tomorrow being opening day. If there was ever a testament to the dedication of our teams to you, it was illustrated just 20 minutes ago by 20 plus men boarding the Locke Mountain Triple. They weren’t going up to ski first tracks, they were going up there to physically move snow in time for tomorrow’s opening day. None of us are ready to admit defeat, but there’s a chance that we may. So what does this mean? It means that despite our snowmaking efforts since Tuesday, we’ve made significant process, however there will be walking to the mid-station in addition to downloading to the base. It means that we’ll continue to make snow when we can, but it’s going to take a miracle to make the amount of snow most of you are used to expecting. It means that the coverage is variable, so when we say for advanced skiers and snowboarders only, we really really mean it. It means that opening day conditions are nowhere near our standards, despite even our best efforts. And finally, it means that even if we’re able to open tomorrow, we need to set some expectations. So…if you’re looking for tremendous conditions and ample snow coverage—get ready for the most honest snow report assessment maybe, like, ever—this weekend isn’t for you. If you want to come up, check things out, ski a little, and check out our progress, come on up and say hello. Keep thinking cold thoughts and we’ll continue to too. Tomorrow’s update will be here at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow. Sincerely, Team Snow
  10. Go get it Moe. Killington is going to be a shitshow this weekend anyway. The best time to get it would be on Monday if they are open. Forecasted high of 50 with none of the weekend crowds. Could have a decent amount of terrain available all things considered. From the looks of the webcam, they have turned the guns off on Rime (and are reporting it groomed) during the day while operating, and have moved that capacity to East Fall, Reason, and Upper Double Dipper.
  11. Hopefully its only 12 days for me, but that will depend on the weekday operating schedule at Killington, which will depend on the weather. However, it looks like they are laying down a real solid base.
  12. Killington update: 12:50 p.m. 10/24/13-- Product testers are in – and the word is we’re dropping the ropes early! Thanks to the great work of our Mountain Ops team, we have decided to open for skiing and riding today, Thursday October 24 at 1:30 p.m. This early opening is exclusively for Season Pass and Express Card holders. If you haven’t picked up your Season Pass or Express Card yet, head to K-1 Guest Services to grab a ticket for the afternoon. If you can’t make it today, don’t worry, we’ve got the official 2nd Annual Season Pass and Express Card holder Appreciation Day still scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, October 25, 2013. Never fear, skiers and riders - we're so excited that we just can't hide it, and the plan is to open up for the public on Saturday, October 26, 2013. The snowmakers are still on the job, still blowing snow and blowing our minds. Check back for updates as they continue to work their magic.
  13. I don't ski anywhere... I thought that might come up. To me, at this point in my life, it's in VT, but I know most people associate that with the West. Life is always changing, so perhaps that will change for me one day as well.
  14. Id like to get there too, but it's just out of day trip range, and if I'm going to stay the night, I might as well keep going to the promised land. Still, all the best. It needs a good owner with a sustainable long term plan.
  15. Yeah, it's been there since day one. Thanks for noticing. They will be open. I have faith!!!
  16. It sucks im not up in the MRV with all my gear, or i'd probably hit the road tomorrow and go for it on Friday. It would be one little step towards justifying my Killington Express Card. Either way, keeps the Stoke Market rising. I'm still aiming for November 5 to be my first day of the season.
  17. Glad I'm not the only one... This time of the year is terrible for office productivity.
  18. Really nice cold front settling in for a couple days. Killington has been able to keep the guns on around the clock at the top. Rumor has it that they will open Friday to Season Pass and Discount Card holders, and then to the general public on Saturday. It's looking like Great Northern from Gondi to NRT and Rime to start. They may be able to put enough of a base down to stay open midweek, especially since this pattern is supposed to hold for almost a week. Time will tell.
  19. I met several people with them on the mountain last year, one of which owned a ski shop that sold them, and not one person had a problem with them. For a $6,000 machine, I would hope they fit well. Your lucky you got then early. The boot forms went fast last year and they were mostly sold out by mid January.
  20. And speaking of Killington, there are some sweet pics on their FB page. They began snowmaking in earnest last night.
  21. I've done it in years past, including this season, and didn't have any problems. You can use a different email address but same name if you want to try it that way. Or call customer service? Under the new GM they have been very helpful.
  22. It's a foliage fetish, it's all natural. Every once in awhile, I like to walk around barefoot when the leaves fall. It combines my foot and foliage fetishes. It's a win win. Then they start making snow, and I have a snowmaking fetish. Then I have a natural snow fetish. There's fetishes for all parts of the season. I think we all have it, I'm just a little more vocal than everybody else lol
  23. Great deal for midweek early season when terrain is limited. If they get some cold temps, it becomes a really good deal towards the end of expiration.
  24. I've already throw this out To some of the guys on here who frequent VT or do road trips, but it's too good a deal to leave everybody else out. I think I'm going to pick one up as well. http://wfff.halfoffdeals.com/index.php?index_type=promo-detail&h=2070863
  25. Foliage report from the MRV: Past peak, most leaves off trees...
