Picked up a pair of boots, two helmets, and two pairs of socks at the Bolton Valley sale. I also picked up my change of pace pass today in the form of a Smuggler's Notch Bash Badge Plus pass. I hope to go to a couple places other than there, but it's a pretty good deal to pass up. Decided to get it cheap. I'll see how much I use it this year, and if it was worth the investment.

Took a hike to the top of the Bush yesterday. Lots of fall colors up here. The change in the foliage in 5 days has been pretty stellar. It's been relatively warm and humid here, but still much better than home. Calling for a low of 35 on Thursday. Less than 60 days till K-Mart opens.

I'll have to see what kind of traffic and following I get. I'll always be looking to improve the site and the user experience, but for the first year or so, it will just be a blog.

Somebody got a new phone...

I'm not the most tech savvy, therefore the reason I am using Weebly as a host. However, as the season ramps up, I am going to rename the site (green mountain ski and ride), convert to a dedicated .com domain, and switch to Wordpress. If I can figure out how to do it beforehand, I will. I haven't yet.

Thanks for the investigative reporting VTSki. I definitely didn't pick up on that. Makes the whole story a little more interesting.

We are going to have some solid spring temps here for the next couple days, but I'm going to miss the intro to fall next week. You should be there right in the swing of things. Second coming of Sir Mix A Lot.

I'm meeting with the patrol director on Sunday to try to score a volunteer gig up here, so unless something goes wrong, I should be spending 2-2.5 weeks a month up here in the MRV. Also contemplating a discount card to Smuggs which is about an hour fifteen away for a change of pace. I also hope to make it back to Elk and possibly a day at Blue with the PASR crew. If anybody is thinking of a trip up here, let me know. I'd love to get out on the snow with you guys.

I'm up in the MRV, and temps are chilly! Got here yesterday around 8. 8 hour 55 minute drive time, which for the amount of heavy rain and slow speeds we encountered, is still pretty impressive. Leaves are changing. It was 82 in RutVegas, but by the time we hit the MRV it was 67. An hour north and 2,000 feet extra elevation makes a difference. Need to meet with some contractors and suppliers today, but going to the sale in Bolton tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to snag some decent deals. I'll have some pics and a TR in the next couple days.

It's not as if there are people calling for someone to be banned every day. I've been on the site for 5 years now, and it's only one person, and it just so happens, that over the past year or so, the issues have occurred repeatedly. I don't think it is being "thrown" around loosely as an overbearing tool. Its been rarely if ever used. Therefore you know that when it is being "thrown" around, there's probably at least a semi reasonable reason. I just find it ridiculous that someone as mellow online as Ridge Racer needed that kind of asinine and callous response to a reasonable post, and he just so happens to be the latest starting point. I realize it is a message board, so we should be given some leniency as to what we say online, but I am also fairly certain that there are more people on here who would rather converse with relative respect without having to suck it up just so he can be a douchebag whenever he sees fit. Tough subject to talk about 100% lightly since it has underlying reasons as to why it happened, but I'll try...

I will say this: -GSS makes the forum much more active -GSS does post some entertaining trip reports -GSS does have some witty comments On the flip side: -He is often far too crude and personally demeaning with some of his comments and seems to forget that some people post here for their enjoyment, not to be bashed and demeaned for no good reason -This would not be the first time that he has offended an online forum with hurtful insensitive enough posts to be banned (see lifetime ban at Alpine Zone) -He feels like he has to post in every single thread despite having nothing to say, and often says something completely off basis or retarded, like his go to "sick bird" comment -He repeatedly gets put on mod preview and has now been banned, and he still refuses to curtail his behavior even the slightest -His behavior has led to several decent posters leaving over the past few years, and the potential departure of Ridge Racer just two weeks ago -He doesn't seem to grasp the concept that by acting like a jackwagon repeatedly, instantly assaulting new members, and causing some other posters to leave, he is slowly killing the site that he supposedly gets a bunch of enjoyment out of (there are plenty of posts on AlpineZone from other members who say he contacted them in his attempts to get back on the board and their board is still operating just fine) I also believe that his close skiing relationship with Jeff has also gotten him some leniency in his behavior, his reinstatement, and his attitude. If we want it to be his personal message board, we could rename it "gssskisandridespaandcanactlikeanassclownonline.com" I will be the first person to say that the site is more active when he is around. It is also a wash for enjoyment since the good content is always negated by some asinine or offensive comment. I do enjoy some of his posts. Shit, I often post dumb shit in random threads, but I realize that I have no place there, and I am personally trying to curtail that. I have no personal beef with the guy. The one time I met him, I found him quite enjoyable. However, my experience with him on here is quite the opposite. I have no standing here as I am not a moderator or administrator, but I think the facts speak for themselves. If he has no interest in being a productive member of the forum, and just wants to use it for his personal venting or bullshit, then I have no problem in letting him go. The repetitive mod preview off mod preview banning cycle doesn't seem to be getting through to him. Do what you will, but I for one hope he attempts to get his shit together if he is allowed to stay here and wants to stay here.
