I haven't been to Shawnee since I was 15... I bet some things have changed a bunch, and some things have stayed exactly the same...

I just got back on snow from my injury, but I'm still taking days off to rest the ankle, so no trip reports yet...

That makes sense... When I was there last they were just finishing it up... Anyone been? Is it any good?

The last time I was there was two years ago and it was still a quarter... We can whittle this down using logical deduction...

When they groom as well as Elk?

I've got to ask, which mountain? If I looked for a mountain with a tomahawk name, I could guess, it's just easier to ask lol

Does it change seasonally?

They making snow on an open Susqy? Is that the one with all the turns in it? I wish they would make some banked turns there... I like it either way, but that would be a little more awesome...

Still warm up here since the front hasn't passed yet, but it's supposed to drop 40 some degrees in the next 8 hours... Really did a number on the natural snow pack :-(

I can honestly say it is out in the middle of nowhere... Like I used to think Elk was out in the middle of nowhere, but when I first went to Platty, my GPS took me on old route 28 through a bunch of farm fields and past a mobile home graveyard, and my friend and I were throwing around many "where the fuck are we" questions. It's another 30 minutes past Belleayre, but worth the trip. I'm sure you remember reading them 2 years ago, but I posted a couple TRs with pics when I went.

Glad to see that their hard work and repeated troubles are finally paying dividends and didn't hold them back. They may need more parking lots if the trails aren't crowded :-)

Depending on how much you value your time, and how long your drive is, and if you staying at a hotel somewhere, it is a great deal for a standalone lift ticket. I love the vibe there. Very Elk with much less restrictions and better sustained vert with very little runout. If I were back home, I would definitely try to jump on this deal!!!

They are a weekend only operation, so I think that means Fri-Mon? Maybe only Fri-Sun? That doesn't include powder "daize," but it limits midweek accessibility... Regardless, it's still sure to be fairly slow and manageable on a weekend, if there is still a decent price available...

I have done training on them, but I haven't actually had to use one in every day service... They are typically reserved for steep icy trails and bumps runs, just in case the person in the handles loses the tobo...
