  1. I have a feeling Jay Peak is going to pick up a few more patrons this year. Before the price drop, most mountains were comparable in price, if not identical. With Jay being significantly cheaper than some of the surrounding alternatives, and arguably offering the best natural snow conditions in the east, I would find it hard to believe that the price elasticity alone will net them some additional customers...
  2. That's a huge jump in dates... I guess we have finally seen the end of Stoketoberfest...
  3. Word on the street is that Tahoe, Squaw, and Alpine are all getting dumped on... 2-3' possible? Loveland opened today too... Won't be long now...
  4. Thanks for coming out of PASR retirement to clear up some things at your old mountain... The picture sounds much better than it did a week ago... Still a long road ahead of them...
  5. I was surprised at how quick this got put together this year for sure... It seemed like it dragged on forever last season lol
  6. I wonder if its that bad... Your have to imagine that if it comes to that, it will get picked up by somebody... Especially since its multi season now...
  7. Wow... Every time we hear about bankruptcy or Sno having financial problems, but not really having financial problems, another one pops up... And this time it isn't we didn't pay the electric bill, or this is normal operating procedure and has been since new management took over, etc, its straight up bankruptcy... I realize that it's chapter 11 for restructuring, which is basically saying that we overleveraged ourselves and can't pay back the money we borrowed, and it's a win win for the entity restructuring because they basically get better credit terms, and will end up paying less off so that it isn't a total loss for them and the company extending the line of credit (I think I got the explanation generally correct?)... I guess it's better than chapter 7 which wouldn't allow the company to operate and all those jobs would be lost etc, but seriously, I think we are past trying to convince people that there aren't glaring financial issues... I am glad Sno won't be joining NELSAP this year, but I hope this restructure allows it to stay viable for a couple more years at least... Thanks for the heads up KC... It's always tough to break the bad news... Hope it goes as well as it can...
  8. You can read my posts, because if my TRs are anything like last years, they won't exist lol
  9. I know it doesn't mean squat, and it can change on a dime, but the end of the ten day is starting to look more promising in the NE... A-Basin opens tomorrow...
  10. And for those of us in the Northeast: 1. Mont Tremblant 2. Sunday River 3. Smuggler's Notch 4. Sugarloaf, Maine 5. Stowe 6. Holiday Valley 7. Killington 8. Whiteface 9. Loon 10. Jay Peak Solid lineup, but Stowe at 5? Really? No Sugarbush? No Stratton? Holiday Valley at 6?
  11. I agree, running a ski resort is a business, and if it is losing money it should be cut. Furthermore, for once, I agree with GSS on the entitlement. While many racers are well behaved, we do have a feeling of entitlement at our mountain for racers that is quite annoying. As to the Loveland situation, I saw several pics today that point toward them still making a run at their typical early season opening run. They say they should be open within a week, and with the projected temps, that still seems possible.
  12. Skiing tomorrow is limited to people who have already doled out some dough for a long term commitment. The $25 is for those who have paid the $99 (?) for an express card. So, for the cost of $124 I guess you could ski tomorrow, but if the past has been any indication, it's going to be a cluster...
  13. Damn, you got me again... And on a different note, another flat low elevation east coast area will open tomorrow. However, it seems to be a soft opening for season pass holders only, and they will close down after that. Seems like a bunch of work for no extra revenue, but I guess the Beast has finally come out of hibernation...
  14. I love the River, but when Killington wants to open first, they do... And I also understand how and why that happens... You won't hear any crazed uneducated unfounded fanboy statements out of me for that argument...
  15. If the last couple years are any indication, you won't ski anywhere outside of Blue or Jackson ever again...
  16. I would also like it to be known that this morning at the elevation of 4848', Snowshoe Mountain also dusted off the snowmaking equipment. However, this was only a test and they don't expect to fire them back up until the beginning of November. However, how can your stoke level not rise when a mountain in West Virginia has lit them up this early?
  17. Just because you don't think you'll get out before December this year doesn't mean you shouldn't be thinking positive. Although rare, some years have some excellent conditions during Thanksgiving. I'm sure there must have been a year like that while you were in college... No?
  18. Killington has supposedly already begun snowmaking for the season, and as they always do, rumors are already circulating about them opening tomorrow. The end of the 10 day looks promising, but the 9 days after this one don't. Killington's recent policy has always been that they will only open if they can stay open, and the new president seems to stick behind that. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a weekend only operation, but everything I have heard points away from that...
  19. What am I supposed to do without pictures?
  20. Job will probably start the beginning of December again, but with Thanksgiving so early this year, I'll probably go up and get a full week on the snow beforehand... That's the goal at least...
  21. Who knows what the weather has in store, but a nice dusting in PA during October would be nice... A one foot cement storm two years in a row just seems plain unrealistic. On to the real news. In the northeast, Magic, Sunday River, and Killington have all blown out the mice. Additionally, per Facebook and as of yesterday early morning, Killington has started to blow base building snow on Rime for the season. They have a solid window for most of today and to tonight... The 10 day doesn't look too good for further snowmaking, but temperatures are definitely trending downward and towards their seasonal averages... I don't think Halloween turns on the 27th are out of the question there...
  22. Slow, flat, same terrain, weird lift layout, and good grooming... Looks like they've got it figured out...
  23. Okemo averages like 70 in less than K-Mart because it doesn't see the upslope effect... K-Mart has much bigger potential for dumps...
  24. I say fire up the woodstove...
