  1. Not a fan, or no desire to go?
  2. That definitely makes sense... Still, it was also the first weekend, so lighter crowds are understandable... It should pick up every day once school is out in another 2 weeks... As for the photo op somewhere else? You better get your priorities in order :-)
  3. Definitely not packed for sure :-/
  4. Nice!!! Glad to see they are getting some business... I think a viable summer business is a key part of being able to achieve longevity for Sno... It was a great weekend for summer activities... I hope their business builds on this...
  5. That's one of the biggest reasons I want to hit it this upcoming year. I think that added snowmaking will be a benefit along with the new HSQ, but the sellout vibe I am not a fan of, especially when they have already announced that plans for a hotel are in the works...
  6. http://m.wcax.com/default.aspx?pid=2705&wnfeedurl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.wcax.com%2fstory%2f18614019%2fburke-mountain-sold%3fclienttype%3drssstory In keeping with the trend of keeping up on New England ski area news, I bring you this big news. I don't know exactly the repercussions from such a buy, but after adding a second high speed quad and recently being approved for more real estate development, it looked ripe for the taking. Over the years Jay has become much more developed, and ownership should be excellent at doing the same here. They haven't stated their future plans, but I would assume it will continue to be a mellower mountain than Jay. Let's hope they can use some of that EB-5 money from Jay to ramp up improvements quickly. A Jay/Burke season pass would be a sweet deal too. I wa hoping to get to Burke this past season, but with the down snow year, it wasn't worth it. I'm hoping to get there this year. It's pretty high on my list right right behind Saddleback...
  7. This opening for the season? I would like to make it up some point, but it won't be this weekend... This should be a good opening weekend with the weather being sunny and around 80 all three days... Did they do anything new this year?
  8. In PA, maybe it is a bonus... In NE, it better be before then... I'm supposed to start work again Dec 1... If its a good year they could be pushing 30 trails... If its like last year, they were snirt skiing on 12 trails... Id love to move up and get some riding in before work starts...
  9. With Stowe at 211" and the Bush at 161", we can only hope for a return to the average next year... Both resorts were more than 100" off... I think Stowe counted the upslope storm after they closed whereas Sugarbush did not, so those numbers may be even worse than they appear... I didn't check Killington, SR, or SL, but they were all in the 100" less than average department... It will get better next year... Can't get much worse...
  10. Im not trying to argue at all, I just like to have the facts straight, and I don't think they are, deep powder or not...
  11. I think he meant a snowfall that totaled 20", not 20" total for the season... I would like to see those numbers and when they fell... I remember very few big storms, and even fewer storms of any significance that were totally snow... It seems like most of the storms end in rain or ice... Also Jeff, I know there were several that went south, but I remember several clippers, including that one that dropped 15" or so on CB one or two years ago that went north... I wasn't counting the ones that hit the big cities and completely missed the mountains...
  12. Were they really that snowy? I feel like there is a misconception that they were snowy... If I remember correctly, most of the snow passed Blue and went north... I say this, but I don't have the snowfall totals in front of me... They very well may be average...
  13. No crowds? Awesome!!! No crowds and an average season? Doesn't sound average at all lol
  14. http://m.firsttracksonline.com/2012/05/07/plattekill-buys-new-chairlift-groomer-and-snowmaking-equipment-at-tanglwood-auction/?wpmp_switcher=mobile Plattekill and Laszlo continue to move forward year after year despite the tough economic times... This is really good news again this year... On the flip side, it looks like Tanglwood is officially toast... They bought some older tower guns from Big Tupper last season, and this year 2 new fan guns, a new double for an expanded beginner area, and a new groomer... I don't know when they expect to put the double in place, but they also bought hydrants to expand snowmaking in the future... Couple that with a new pond last year, and things are really improving... Although Platty is super relaxed, and I don't want it to get sold out or change, I think this will improve snow quality in lean years such as this one... Especially when you have to pass snowmaking behomeths like Hunter and Windham, and to a lesser extent, but still better than Platty, Belleayre... I still like Platty and Bell the best in the Skillz, and I'm sure this will only make it better!!! Additionally, Laszlo has really become a pro at picking up used equipment at cheaper prices... Props to him...
  15. It's a fringe term now... I've heard it once or twice in the past year from old school nerds who are out of touch with the new slang... In another year, it's definitely out...
  16. Just talked to a friend of mine who lives near The Balsams in NH, and they have about an inch of snow and it was still coming down... Wtf?
  17. http://www.woodstockx.com/2012/04/06/new-boss-in-town-orda-takeover-of-belleayre-raises-hopes-suspicions/ This has been talked and debated about for the past several years, and the decision became final several weeks ago, but nobody had mentioned it, so I figured I would throw it out there. I know that most people here do not ski/ride in the Catskillz on a regular basis, and when they do, they prefer the larger and better maintained mountains of Windham and Hunter, but I believe this is a good thing overall. The resort will now be run more like a resort with an eye towards profits instead of a directly subsidized public recreational facility. This will most likely mean that prices will increase, but it also creates the possibility of a joint Belleayre/Gore/Whiteface season pass/discount card. This will also mean that the management will be overseen by a division that distinctly works in the ski resort business which is a positive. I do not understand how the employment works with ORDA, so I couldn't tell you if those employees are states employees still, or they will become ORDA employees. Either way, I expect that there will continue to be trending towards seasonal employment away from year round employment. Unfortunately, this may also mean that early and late season operations may be curtailed. I believe the days of November 10 openings and April 16 snowmaking will be over. However, they will still likely aim for a Thanksgiving opening like they do at the other ORDA resorts, and an early April closing. I for one, being a Belleayre groupie, find this to be encouraging and believe that it will lead to more sustained operations for years to come. It will be nice knowing that they will be open every year instead of not knowing from year to year. Hopefully they won't have any more mid season peak weekend mechanics strikes either!!!
  18. I could be wrong, but I think you buy 4 at once...
  19. I'm back at my desk job lol
  20. As crazy as it is, just saw that 7 Springs ran a groomer and will be open for at least part of today to shred the snow they got yesterday... Lift served in PA on April 24?
  21. Baby steps... Start with 50 and work your way up... We don't want you to get discouraged by setting too high of a goal... How many days you aiming for at the BMDI?
  22. I thought she was of foreign decent, not actually foreign... I'm sorry to hear that... I'm also sorry to see that the BMDI only got your patronage once this season... However, I can't expect too much since you only logged days in the 30s this year... Remember the days of 100? I expect a return to at least the 50s next year... Aspen tombstone branch?
  23. They were pretty terrible... Unfortunately I have to agree... That being said, I'm still very concerned about the bridge being out...
  24. I doubt Jeff drinks cheap wine, and whatever happened to the last lady you were dating? Get tired of 2 for $20 and you dropped her?
  25. This dump could end up being bigger than any dump we got in Maine this year... We had one 15" er lol
