Risk it is the very top section on skier's right of Floyd's.

Ski Sawmill still uses a T-bar. I used to go there as a kid, but I skied back at that time, no issues. I went last year while I was back home for a weekend. I admit I had some difficulties getting used to riding it on a snowboard. Nothing like feeling a fool after snowboarding for the last 6 years.

Hmm? Long haul must have come on around noon time. I was on the mountain from 11am - 2:30pm and I was pretty much lapping Upper/Lower Fast Track because Long Haul was running. I figured since I ride mostly on the weekdays and Long Haul really only runs on the weekends I would take advantage of riding top-to-bottom today. Conditions were nice, The snow started to speed up as I was leaving the temperature was beginning to dip below 32. Good day, sad to admit but it took me to my 14th day of the season to actually top 10K ft of vert for a day. Slow start to the season with a lot of quick 2 hour sessions.

It is nice up here today. Nice soft man-made powder everywhere. No crowds. Have to stay off the flats though the snow is too slow. Most likely could have been improved if I changed my wax last night. My biggest issue is that my goggles keep freezing over with the snow flying.

Nice. Thanks, I picked up three. I usually make a couple change of pace trips a year. It is nice to get away from my season pass to Montage[last couple years it was JFBB]. If Elk's season pass was not so expensive I would be there over Montage or Jack Frost.

KC, Do you know if they have looked at putting in a Disc Golf course in at the mountain? If they put in a solid 18 hole course, I believe it would get used. We have no need for the "beginner" crap that camelback put in. The cost is not terribly high; 400-500 per basket. I think a course would give Dads something to do while the family is at the waterpark. I live 5 minutes from the mountain and I have to drive over 30 minutes to get to the nearest course. Just a thought; not sure if it would even be considered. -
I like them. I guess they may actually be the 2012 version. http://www.evo.com/outlet/snowboard-boots/salomon-f20-2012-2.aspx The boots in the link is what I own; I bought them in december up at Ski Corner in Dickson City. The definitely have a much smaller footprint than my old Vans. I like that they are soft but I can get them stiffer by just tightening everything up.

I had a pair of Vans with the Boa; I liked the how quick they laced up, but I had trouble at times finding a medium between too loose and too tight with the foot vs ankle part of the boot. When I was looking at new boots this season I wanted to look into the the dual boas systems( separate adjustments for the foot and ankle/shin. I however ended up with a new pair of Saloman F20 with there speed lacing system and I love them. I can make the boot as tight around the foot and hold the ankle/foot in place and leave the shin looser if desired or vise versus. I really like these boots.

<p>I've never been to the mountain but I can tell you the area is beautiful. This past summer I spent a week camping a little southwest of there on the Maine border at Umbagog Lake.. One of my fav trips ever.

I too picked up a new pair of boots today. Looking forward to trying out my new Salomon F20 snowboard boots tomorrow. I also picked a new Giro helmut to go with the Sena Giro bluetooth headset attachments..

I had a pair of Flow bindings, but never was too comfortable with them. I still have them mounted on one of my older boards. I switched to a pair of Gnu bindings. To me they perfected the rear entry bindings. They fixed most any issue that I had with me Flow bindings.

The trails at Raystown are amazing, so much fun.. I'm glad my brother lives near the area.

FYI.. Just saw that Elk is offering a discount during the month of March to anybody who shows their season pass to another mountain. 25 dollars during the week and 35 on the weekend. Think I figured out where I'm going tomorrow. Nice to be back on the snow after dislocating my shoulder 6 weeks ago.

^^ I look at this site daily for information/TR, which really has been lacking this year, but I've never really posted. So, yes I could be considered part of the lack of quality post because I do not create any, but I must say Robert's above post was one of the most quality posts I've seen here.. -
Well I did make the trip to Plattekill on Friday. It took me around 2.5 hrs to make the trip, there really is not a nice way to get there from Scranton. I took the direct route up through Hancock, NY. First I will say it was most likely not the best day for me to travel for boarding, but I had told myself for the last two week I was going and was keeping my promise. ha Got there around 9:30, booted up and got my lift ticket and ready to go by 10am. Two surprises, one the lift ticket was only 30, but second they made me get a leash for my snowboard. Ooops I have not used a leash in a few years and yes they were checking to make sure it was clipped and all. Well after buying and attaching my leash I headed to the top mountain(skiers left) and proceeded to start off by just meandering down their green slope, Powder Puff, to get the legs warmed after the long drive. Snow was hardpack, not surprising after temps dropped into the negative the night before, but also nicely groomed. I went down all the trails on this side of mountain and a couple twice. But as I alluded to earlier I was in bed most of this past week with the flu and my legs were sadly getting tired already. I took a quick break to checkout the "lodge" and grabbed a slice of pizza and a Mt Dew, which ran me 6 dollars, so not horrible. Then I headed out to the other side of the mountain to come down one of the DD's. I made it down, but my legs were not going to make many more runs. Ecspecially since there really are not any "easy" relaxing runs there. The diamonds and dd's are continuous pitch for the 11000ft vert, not the typical "step down" runs you see in PA. The blue are all only about a CAT track wide and "turny"(haha), so even those you can not loose focus or you are in the trees. So nothing that I felt that I could ride and not be fearful that I would injure myself in my state. So, with still 2.5 hours to drive home I decide to end my preview of Plattekill shortly after noon. I really liked this mountain with it being a lot different than what I ride on a daily basis. I have always enjoyed the narrow force you to make turns style of trails and the top to bottom diamonds with basically zero run out are always nice too. I will be back a later date this season. And oh yes the crowds were nonexistent. Thanks guys for the suggestion.

Thanks guys! Maybe I will go for Plattekill, I've never been there. I will update.

On a Saturday, which mountain would be the best to visit when it comes to crowds? Maybe im wrong, but I figured these would be better than platt, windham. I def eliminated hunter. Just looking for quick day trip other than Elk. I usually am at sno or jf.

I was there on Saturday from about 10:00 till 1:00pm. It was my first day at JF this year. It reminded me why i would rather have a season pass at JF than at SNO. Except that it takes me 12 min to get to the parking lot at SNO versus the almost 45 mins to get to JF. I do really enjoy the lower half of Sno mountain more than the diamonds at JF, but i venture up top of SNO only when the long haul is open to ride fasttrack. At JF i can have fun riding any trail so it offers more variety. But anyhow enough of that nonsense. I was very happy with the conditions for my last day on snow this season. Found a few icy spots on Thunderbolt early on, but not much else. River Shot did get a bit choppy, but expected with the soft snow. It probably would have been a lot worse if the mountain was busy. I thought Floyds was the best run of the day and Challenge and I think Demattes also had nice soft/sugary snow. Basically made my way across the mountain west to east. Than lapped of the east mountain chair doing three runs on each river shot, floyds and challenge. A couple more runs to get back to the lodge. Then was off to meet some friends and play two rounds of disc golf at Francis Walter Dam, which if anyone cares was also in good condition. This was most likely the best outdoor day ever. To be able to do my winter and summer activities on the same day and each in nice weather/conditions. I joked with my friends. In my book the only way it could have been better would have been to take my kayak and ride the river from one destination to the other.
