Is "Zinc-ies" the politically correct term for those who reside in the Lehighton/Palmerton area?
-
I still think they'd do better volume if they'd keep ticket prices lower. High ticket prices are going to dissuade people from coming out right off the bat. A lower ticket price will get more people to come out and thus make more money on concessions. They've been selling IPA bottles for $2 for a while now and probably are making money off them. Even season pass holders are buying them!

It's really not the snowmakers or groomers fault, it's management/owners fault.

Some freshies falling this morning.

Especially yesterday with the special Sunday afternoon ticket price from 12-4.

Early yesterday we saw a little girl, 5-7 perhaps, in a flying wedge, no turning ability and gaining speed towards the SP building, father trailing behind seemingly not doing anything to help (not sure if he couldn't or didn't want to or what). Girl ended up doing full speed wipeout to a stop just above the ski patrol building. Another person I was skiing with stopped to make sure she was all right. Totally irresponsible parenting IMHO.

Valley opening Friday is what I heard.

And that's the problem. But if you'd try to enter in that line, they'd send you to the back.

Ski Patroller's line... I saw him walking back out. That's another stupid thing they've done. If they want that to be a SP only line, put up a rope at the start so people don't use it! I guess the SPs are too lazy to move the rope.

"try"?? They typically do and they will often try to come in in the SP entrance of the quad even when there's no race going.

I wish! They ruin it for everyone. Because of them, people will start bitching about the VIP line next.

It's not only the parents, the coaches NEVER say anything to the kids to stop them from doing it or teaching them any etiquette They're also the worst offenders for taking over all the tables in the lodge, leaving all their paraphernalia lying around and bring in outside food.

Eh, we gave up around 1pm or so. Snow on Lazy was excellent, but lines were beyond the end of the SP shack and probably a good 12-14 people wide at that point and still empty chairs were going up. Hung out in the parking lot till around 3pm. End up catching up on shit around the house when I get home from skiing. -
Yeah, but for many of those years it was Ray who was running the show, which he did right it so many ways. It's a totally different crew manning the Titanic nowadays.

Don't put it past Blue to pull more blunders during the season... I think they had already blundered again by not taking full advantage of the inversion last week to blow as much in the valley as they could. Since the temps were low enough to make snow, why not blow on Home Stretch and the lower park so that they're ready to open the valley ASAP? Once the cold front passed, all they would have had to do was to blow enough on Tut's for a WROD and they would have been gold. It still just boggles the mind that they've been doing this for so many years and they still can't get it right. It's like every year they have to learn it all over again.

Yes, Blue really took a shit on the entire lift debacle at the doubles yesterday. How could they run a mountain for so many years and not know that they need to open both ticket gates at the doubles, especially after having a snowstorm on Saturday and knowing full well that that's gonna bring out the crowds on Sunday? All they needed to do was blow a bit more snow and groom the existing snow to open up the run under the doubles to the Burma side and lines would have been far more manageable. When Dave was down checking out the debacle, a few told him to get the groomer our to try to open up the run. His only response was that "They didn't have anyone to run a groomer". Well, if you're "professional" ski mountain managers, why didn't you already have this situation taken into account and handled already? Blue's operations management sometimes leaves a lot to be desired.

Hate to tell you, but wax on skis, especially with east coast ice, only lasts an outing or two. You have to wax skis often and use heat to open up the pores in the base so the wax becomes part of the base. I'd bet your "full tune up" was just a roll-on coat of wax, that was more/less gone after the first time out after the tune up. Get some longer skis to spread the weight out. Put on lots more weight, just basic physics. Learn to ski/carve. Carving imparts energy into the ski by bending/flexing it, like compressing a spring, which, when the ski straightens, generates speed.
