Thoughts on Blue honoring other moutain's ski passes?
indiggio replied to indiggio's topic in Blue Mountain
I was thinking the same. But also, just how much coin do they think they're really gonna make off food and other? Even though they have signs to not bring outside food, people will still do it, so they probably won't make much there. Rentals? Season pass holders don't rent. Nothing there. Since terrain is limited, they won't bring up friends. Who's gonna pay holiday rates for what little terrain there is open? I just don't see it. Paying it forward perhaps... How far does good PR go anyway? What's Blue's season pass cost compared to BC? Would people switch if the difference is big and a longer drive, just because Blue let them ski this year? Unfortunately Blue is losing money each warm and/or rainy day. I'm sure it costs a boat-load to cover the runs, only to have it run down the slopes as water. Just grateful they're open... -

So the management at Blue thinks "Who's brilliant idea was this to allow other mountains passholders to ski here?"... -
Thoughts on Blue honoring other moutain's ski passes?

Oh yes indeed. Blue gets the people that don't want to continue riding up to Camelback or beyond. But now that they opened to other pass holders, there's less incentive to go elsewhere. Why buy the cow, if the milk is free? -
Thoughts on Blue honoring other moutain's ski passes?

I don't see the gesture converting many, if any. I do agree that it's gonna make Blue more crowded, so Blue season passholders are the ones that get screwed... We get nothing positive out of it, and have to deal with more crowds. Unless Blue has some deals with the other mountains, I only see them getting more food revenue? Some crazy business management going on there... BC is gonna have a tough time, with almost an inch of rain predicted for Tues./Wed. 69 News showed their slopes prior to Christmas and they had just a few wells where the guns are. This weather blows big time. -
Saw that Blue is going to honor other mountain's passes until they open. Guess it's a nice thing for them to do, in the spirit of Christmas and all.... Conspiracy theorist in me says Blue must be getting some kind of kickback from other mountains?

The way this f'ing weather is going, they'll have to keep upping the price just to get close to breaking even...

Saw Killington is using them. Pretty crazy nozzle design http://snowlogicusa.com/portfolio/gallery

Commencing panty unbunching...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, that they're only going to have one. We too like the quad as people tend to use the 6-pack more. Guess time will tell.

Looks like someone tried to start a new one on one of the detachables, but I can't recall exactly where. I think there's only 1 bra there.

Yes indeed! Agree 100%. Used to be a great time going up after work, it was almost like first-run, morning conditions in the afternoon. Days gone by... Agree! Opening run down Main Street found fresh blown and only half the slope groomed! Came onto the ungroomed WTF is that? Unfortunately after a few hours the boilerplate started showing from the previous week's warmth/rain. Jump landings were unbearably hard.

Interesting blog post on how Okemo does their grooming.

So what do you think? http://www.guardian.co.uk/travel/2011/jan/17/skiing-snowboarding-study-deaths-injuries?CMP=twt_fd

MLK day saw the lift lines pretty long with tons of school kids off for the day. However, VIP lines where negligible 1-2 people deep and they were checking everyone. VIP lines are THE perk for season pass holders! Agree 100%, Go Blue!

Indeed! Good Luck!

Hopefully they'll keep putting the $$ back into the mountain to make it better. Another few expert trails would be awesome! Should replace the double-double with a detachable quad. They're far easier for beginners to load.

Have to also say that I have tried boarding too. Can't knock something unless you tried it. Did it out in Winter Park where runs are nice and wide and even took a lesson. Have to say it was fun, once I got the hang of it. However, I spent more time on my butt than actually boarding. My shoulders, wrists, elbows, butt all hurt bad the next day. I think it's far better suited for Western areas. Out here in the East, we ski/board mostly hard-pack. Watch most boarders going down Chute or upper Challenge, they're not boarding, they're just sideways pushing the snow. True good boarders surf the snow, IMHO.

No hate here either, just observations. However, there are bad/good in both boarders and skiers. Those who have no consideration for beginners on beginner slopes. Hate is reserved for those that "think" they're good enough and barrel down Burma, Paradise or Lazy (Crazy) to show off. If they ARE that good, they should head to the runs where they won't hurt any beginners who are just trying to develop a love for the sport.

It's always a pain skiing with boarders. You always have to stop and wait for them to sit down and buckle up or one-foot traverse a flat. Or have to ski through a ton of them sitting right off the lift, clogging up the slope. How many times do you see a line of boarders sitting across Tut's, right at the top of the 6-pack? Give me two skis and poles any day... Kudos to the boarders than can ride off the lift, click in and go!
-
Yeah, what ever happened to the afternoon grooming? That used to be the prime reason to go up after work, fresh cord! I realize it's the cost of diesel to run the groomers, but they needn't do all the slopes, just the heavily traversed ones to mow down the push piles and cover up the hardpack/boilerplate. Guess management has no love for their clientele. Ah, love my Lines!

Ugh, gonna break the $500 mark this year, I bet... Still got 3 more sessions to go before breaking even on this year's pass.

What? The trash on the lift lines, the Bra Tree? Low Class? Come on! All that and death cookies is what give Blue its class!

Would be cool, unfortunately it would be difficult to keep backside trails covered in snow with the sun beating down on them all the time. Natural lighting gets better towards spring as the sun gets higher in the sky. Night skiing also provides some pretty good lighting too, since the lights provide more coverage than sun.
