Yeah, really spoiled by yesterday's lack of crowds, but today's snow was good and nobody was really interested in bumps after skiing them all day yesterday. Unfortunately it's back to the work grind tomorrow and some ugly weather to go with it.

Repetition is the best way to learn to ski bumps. When Blue had their bump clinic, they set a line on the Summit learning hill next to a magic carpet lift so we could lap them as many times as possible. The instructors stood next to the run shouting out corrections as we went down over and over and over again.

1/1/23…New Years day..warm..variable.

Best conditions of the season so far, almost spring skiing already. Need winter to return! Once the temps warmed up enough, set a bump line from top of Main to the skid mark. Legs are shot! -
Out of the box and into the rocks!

Love how Blue Mountain takes credit for Barney's Bumps being open except they had no hand in setting them! Happy New Year all!

Warming temps brought excellent snow conditions with them. Warm enough to set a line of bumps on Main that got fast and deep quick. Crowds were manageable using the VIP lines and they were grouping at the 6 when crowds warranted it.

I like that if he was trying so desperately to get first tracks on Razors from the quad, it stopped and we on the 6 beat him to it. 🤣 -

Very first run down Razors & Razorback wasn't bad at all, but knew full well that the mm or so grooming hid an explosion of cookies. Ran it about an hour or so later and sure enough, it was downright horrible. No wonder there wasn't any BMR people on it. Rode the 6 pack around 11 and it stopped for a good 15 minutes for no apparent reason. Took a ride up the Vista and passed the new chair landing and chatted with an electrician pulling wire for the idiot rod. He had no idea when it was going to open. -
Process? The groomers have a tiller on the back that's supposed to grind up the cookies, but the way they blow the snow (wet) causes the conditions we all know and love (to hate). Not entirely due to the temperatures, but the cheapness of the mountain to only make one pass with the groomers, putting down lipstick on a pig. Would be nice if they would just blow smaller whales and let the riders break them down naturally instead of using the groomers. The whales would drain naturally and the riders would carve up the dry, upper layer. For some reason (probably because of how wet they blow) they don't let anyone ride the new whales.

12/27…warmer..empty..pretty nice conditions.

We couldn't understand the reason behind burying upper Razor's under a glacier akin to Superstar?? Are they shooting to stay open into May? Doubtful. They could have been using those resources to work on another trail like Switchback. -

We made a pass over to Chute/Midway and I noticed they still had the guns going on Racewidowcurzi and figured the groomers didn’t get to it for the open. We rode up Vista after to check out the top. They’ve got a couple of whales already up there. Latest news is that they’re waiting on PA for clearances and hoping for next week sometime, but I’m not holding my breath. -

Ugh! Yeah it probably was @tarponheadas he said he got stuck on Vista for like 15 minutes. -
Best deal a way back when was the $18 Sunday evenings after 4pm.

Oh yeah and the Vista chair bit it mid morning. Dunno if they ever got it back running again or not. -

Doesn't look like it's the entire mountain as the tubing carpet is still running. Whoopsie! There goes the valley cam... -

Overall a real good day, save the crowds that caused us to bail around noon. Chute to Main Street was a hoot, high speed right into some super grippy fan snow into icy Lower Main was excellent. Lazy and Paradise did have the best snow except for Coming Soon first few runs. Evidently the mountain has lost power and people are bitching big time at the lift ticket prices for the week on FB. And Blue is deleting posts about people bitching about lift ticket prices! 🤣 -
Sorry BMR will take over CC for training…
-
Talk about rich and entitled…
-
The kids don't make the decision to close the trail... Falls may be short, but it's a faster way down avoiding having to backtrack and use Connector.
-
And fuck BMR for taking over Falls for their diddly amount of "training". They could have done that piddly crap on Midway.

Welcome to the club. Woke up this morning to a 55' house. Single digit temps and low (50%) on propane (thanks stealer for not delivering before cold snap) for enough pressure and so the backup furnace wouldn't kick on. Fired up the gas fireplace, switched over to heat pump (fat lot of good that was doing) and called stealer for emergency delivery. Winter's headaches but you get to go skiing which makes it all worthwhile!

Supposedly power companies are requesting holding off on electricity use, but I'm skeptical... https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/pennsylvania/articles/2022-12-24/pennsylvania-warned-of-rolling-blackouts-asked-to-conserve

It was... Blue not blowing with single digit temps? WTF? Rumor has it, but I don't buy it... https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/pennsylvania/articles/2022-12-24/pennsylvania-warned-of-rolling-blackouts-asked-to-conserve

Bah! It wasn't that bad.

Back home from another fun day at Blue. Arrived in the lower lot around 8:15am with an outside temperature of 27' with calm winds and overcast skies. No guns were ablaze, but Falls looking groomed and shortly thereafter a SP cruised down, so yet another @RootDKJ down will be had. No precipitation had been encountered on the ride up, but temps on the South side of the Blue ridge were in the lower 30's, so hoping for the best. In the house was @tarponhead and Bethlehem Ford guy crew. There must have been a newbie at the quad open because he couldn't figure out how to open all the gates and opened just one successfully which happened to be the one @tarponhead was in. He lucked out and obtained the first civilian quad solo by 4 chairs, while the rest of us complained. I skirted in front of others and entered through the only functioning gate to chase down @tarponhead down a glorious, grippy almost buttery Coming Soon run. Midway to Lower Main conditions were just as good if not better than Coming Soon and the lack of crowds gave each run entirely to us. Lazy to the Falls was silently smooth and the Falls headwall was a bit slick but free of cookies and marbles. The bottom of the Falls was solid, frozen cord. Precipitation started out as rain and sleet but later turned to some decent snow for a while until turning back to sleet that pelted all exposed skin. Took a ride up the Vista chair to see what was going on at the top of the new lift. Some workers were mucking with the safety bars on the chairs, probably just final adjustments. Also in the valley they were loading up trucks with various bits of equipment and one of the big diggers and driving them off. With the gloves sufficiently soaked and the rain coming down harder, we bailed around noon to the bar coated in ice like a couple of glazed donuts.
