Couldn't help but think as I'm reading all this, the scene from Jaws (yeah I know it's old) about the mayor and keeping the beaches open. Then while searching for the scene, see that someone made a parody of it with Trump as the mayor!

The 1918-1920 flu pandemic came in three major waves. After the first wave in the US, the virus subsided, and Americans were restless to have businesses reopened and for social life to resume. There was a growing movement to stop wearing masks, which had become ubiquitous - so much so that The Anti-Mask League of 1919 was formed. These were protests from those who thought the public health ordinance violated their liberty. The virus came back with a vengeance in the fall and was much deadlier than the first wave, eventually killing more than 675,000 Americans and killing around 100 million of the 500 million it infected worldwide before it was over. This was before mass vaccination, before the electron microscope; this is the tragedy of herd immunity and stubborn ignorance. Viruses aren't political; they don't care about your theories or speculations or projections. They're unthinking parasites only wanting to replicate and use your body as a host. Wear a mask.

Indeed, we know a few that have recently took trips to North Carolina and Florida as well. Don't plan on being near them anytime soon!

People below us have Guinea Hens that often get loose and wander about the yard. They too make an awful racket. Usually have the odd chicken and flocks of turkey roaming through the yard. Unfortunately most of the turkey have fallen prey to fox and coyotes and don't see them much anymore.

Probably a new herd of them moved into the area. It is strange, since we really didn't have a rough winter at all and there was plenty of other stuff around to eat. Deer aren't the smartest of animals around. Neighbors planted some arbs around a transformer block in their yard shortly after they moved in and the deer came around and ate them all to the bone.

There's been far more bear sightings/videos around here this spring/summer than ever before. They really enjoy all the free bird seed people put out.

We get them all. Other morning I looked out the bedroom/office window to see some type of remains in the yard (wife disallowed next to take a pic of the remains) which through the fog of flies chowing down, looked to be that of a fox, probably dropped by a coyote. I had planned on getting a shovel out later and tossing it into the woods later on, but the cleanup crew got to it first.

Oh yeah, arborvitae are like a Chinese buffet to deer. For some reason this year they've taken to eating all the wife's tiger lily buds that they usually never touch. She's so done with planting stuff that just turns into deer food. Some of the culprits...
