I don't think it's something new though. I see there is an SPX 12 WTR Dual on look's website, but the stuff I'm talking about is this: https://www.evo.com/outlet/alpine-ski-bindings/look-spx-12-2015

Monster 83, 177 for $330. I'd go for the one I tried, i.e. 88, but that comes $200-$300 more no matter where you look. And this looks like a steal, really allowing me to just get it and continue lazily testing/looking for other interesting stuff.

I just like having the freedom of an adjustable BSL and trying offset mount.

I've run into a deal of a ski I want bundled with Look SPX 12. Now, SPX wouldn't be a binding of my choice, I know some people like Pivots here, I would go for Attack 13 demo, but neither is the option. Are SPXs OK in general, or should I rather stay away from them?

That sounds fun. He'll then have a legal right to chase you down the mountain. And if his GPS doesn't lie, he'll do it with ease.
-
Thanks. I jumped off the chair, and that must've saved them.

Then you need to send Salty with his GoPro. GSS never takes out his phone while skiing, so forget it.
-
Someone was offering to delete GSS's posts for a buck or two? With your skiing budget imagine the possibilities
-
Oh, I did, I laid out 3 choices for them, and the sales personnel was happy to be helpful, but there was a manager on the floor who clearly was in a bad mood that night.
-
I wonder what "PASR Supporter" means. Monetary involvement or parking lot BBQ initiative?
-
I think I start to understand why GSS likes Jackson Hole so much. The videos are so insane, each of those guys is a potential client of his.
-
Hey Salty, your avatar says that you're a GS racer now. I think it's time we talk about some GS skis for the next season?

Talked to a guy on beautiful Nordica Enforcer 100 while I was riding express. Asked him how he liked them. Oh wow, I shouldn't have. Turned out he loved them so much that he bought two identical pairs of Enforcer so that he would alternate between them. Besides Enforcers he has two other pairs, one of which is the newer camberless Mantra that he isn't terribly fond of, but likes taking out in powder. That just confirms my theory that everybody skiing 100+ in Pocono is a little bit of an alien.

A complaint... Hmmmm. Now, I don't care too much about the Shawnee incident, the guy was rude, the life will teach him, but I'm wondering if I can somehow complain to BM about being robbed of the 3rd pair to demo...

Ha, I got yelled at today too. On one occasion when the line was empty I went straight for the chair. The attendant ran out of his cozy cabin yelling that I'm supposed to wait until there's somebody at the lift. Earlier under similar circumstances at JF I felt sorry that they have to come out in such a frigid weather and hold the chair for me. But this one was just soooo obnoxious. Sure, I must stop and wait until his majesty comes out.
-
Shoot. I don't know what it is with me and expresses, but it just broke down. They are opening other slow lifts, but lines have skyrocketed already.

So I have one of those WNEP cards, and since Shawnee is on it, I figured, I ought to stop by while the snow is decent, and cold is supposed to keep the crowds away. It was -4F in the morning, frozen corduroy, a few cars, hardly any people. Saw people fishing on Delaware ice on my way here. Tents, other gear, I figure, they've been doing it all night long. Shawnee had two lifts running: quad express and a double. Until about 11 there were no lines at all, I kept using instructor's entrance at the lift because no people, and nobody really cared. That was also the coldest time of the day: even with toe warmers I had to return to the lodge every hour. Interestingly, the cold weather didn't prevent people from bringing 5-year olds, and they clearly had lots of fun. And not just kids, everyone had fun during those hours. I liked how modest Shawnee racing team was. Even though they've been practicing, and had gates set up, they've hardly taked 40% of the trail, and the rest was still open to the public. Was fun racing with kids It warmed up considerably around noon, and my feet stopped giving me any trouble. But that open the gates for a flood of noobs, and I fell prey of one of them. I was boarding the express on the left side when a girl in the middle instead of just sitting down in her spot decided to drift forward and to the left until she got in front of me. I was already sitting at that time and was almost ready to grab her and sit on my laps when she realized that it wouldn't be in her best interests, and decided to go farther left instead. Unfortunately she also got caught in my skis and started twisting them. The lift was still moving, I couldn't really free myself, and was literally forced off the chair. The knees survived, but the pain was baaaad. Anyway, it's almost 2pm now, and the lodge is about 80% full. Gotta do a few more runs before going home. Delaware is now a park, too bad, and I don't envy all these boarders: it's a long way to push themselves back to the express.

Is it your tradition to check out the waterpark per se or girls in bikinis? Just hold on, spring is around the corner, they'll hopefully migrate to the slopes, and you won't have to interrupt your skiing for this.

Yeah, I don't. I thought that their techs were good based on everybody else's opinion, but as far as "business common sense" they lacked it all along. Take my recent experience with test-driving skis when they just stubbornly refused to prorate, reschedule, etc a test drive of the 3rd pair that they couldn't do the same day because their techs have left for the day. Needless to say, they never warned that their techs are leaving way before the store's closing, and when I came in and signed up for the test, I explicitly asked when they were closing. But hey, "it's a policy", was their final word, "to have test drives of all skis done on the same day". Their shops are overpriced retail. Not just on a regular winter day, but also on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Everybody else, whether it's an internet shop or a BM one, is running sales, but they're stubbornly burning lights and a salary of two "may I help you" girls getting zero sales. Some common sense for sure.

Everything was lame there. They called the screw broken, they couldn't even explain the problem correctly. Didn't quote how much it would cost to repair, didn't even say whether it's repairable or not. Just "the screw is broken". Duh. Thanks a million, it was worth a drive there to get this expert opinion. And the reason why they may want to actually take a break from mounting the skis that you've purchased from them is some extra money that they could've earned right there.
-
That's beyond lame.

Oh, this has totally hijacked my evening. Hate you all. My favorite:

Wow, good night time stiff. I think I've briefly seen Salty in this video. On a road mountain bike and 1:45.

Yeah, I guess I made an amazing "discovery" that different widths of the same model can be quite different. IDK why it came to me as a big surprise, I knew all along that different widths of RTM have different number and different kinds of metal layers. I guess, the really weird part was that up to 88mm Head was putting graphene under the boot of Monsters, and after 88mm they started putting it in the completely different position, i.e. in the tips and tails. I guess the takeaway from this is that it's all nice to look at the construction of the skis and marvel the engineering genius, to an extent one can even compare things that are easy to quantify like the number and thickness of titanal layers, but in the end it boils down to reviews and test drives. Everything else is not very useful in picking a ski. And I'm not even talking about "expert reviews" here, in most of the cases those experts will just repeat what's in the booklet like "this awesome ski has a lightweight foam core that is reinforced with a layer of a titanal, which is stronger and yet lighter than steel and serves to make high speed ride smooth and stable". After hearing stuff like this you'll think that "wow, this really is an amazing stuff full of wonders", but in reality what he just said is "this is a dead ski with no wood and a lousy 0.4mm layer of metal that's supposed to fix the shortcomings of the cheap foam". Because the real stuff will have a sandwich construction with two different kinds of wood plus two 0.7mm layers of metal. Same goes for graphene. Ooooh, a one-atom-thick strongest material on Earth. Yeah, but where exactly is it? How much? Does it really resist twisting of the ski or only stretching it? I'm tired of this. I'll go and buy Renouns.
