That's wise. Better watch those skis, don't let them run away again.

You guys are unreasonable. First, he's trolling you. He appears to trust the shop better and thinks that he knows better what skis he needs, and you're all locked into wide and long period. Second, he's freaking right to ski 170 as a beginner (if he's really a beginner). He's gonna keep the skis for only a season or two and then will decide whether to go longer or shorter. Beginners are not supposed to be skiing stiff and long, it's pointless. He would be just going straight all the time and beating his speed records. Not only is he OK with his 81/170, but his radius is also medium at 16. A 14 would be even better. Third, you all actually know that his choice is OK very well as I've seen some very sound comments here from people who actually take time and write a good paragraph or two. Except that those paragraphs often need to be taken with a grain of salt because salty isn't you. Meaning take your extreme numbers and downscale a bit for his abilities and weekend daytime skiing conditions. Finally, he didn't try 177, and he can't extrapolate what he felt at 170 to longer skis. He removed guesswork from the equation and chose to buy something that he'd be able to ski with confidence over the season. All of the numbers are academics, advising someone to buy a ski based on how tall he is is bullshit. Weight matters much more than height. W/o trying you can't know how the ski will behave. There are also a lot of numbers that are not published like torsional stiffness. Atomic sometimes writes longitudinal one, but never torsional. And that affects ice grip. Flex distribution also means a lot. He could've I guess asked one of you who already skis RTM, picked his brain and adjusted for himself, but nobody here skis RTM. And so this thread is completely pointless.

What I meant is that long and fat skis are definitely in favor here. As for 170 vs 177 you likely did the right thing. Ideally you should've tried 177 and perhaps other brands too, but since you haven't, sticking to what you know is the best. Shorter skis will force you to keep your balance, so if you're truly an advanced beginner (or something along those lines) as GSS has called you, you'll benefit from this. Generally the longer the ski in a lineup the stiffer they are. This together with increased radius means they'll need higher speeds to be bent. People here come in the mornings when the mountain is empty, and they ski tall terrain of BM, so they have no problem with long and fat. But you on a busy weekend at CB may simply not have enough space to get up to speed to bend a longer ski. Hence my remark about a season pass at Blue.

Nah, this is a very GS board. Big everything. You still sure you're getting that BM season pass?

I'm not blaming you for choosing 170 over 177. I said that I find it's interesting how you while listening pretty closely to what other people say and remembering that at the right times, held your ground and bought something else despite all the advice. Frankly, I have doubts that you've just started skiing. Some terminology, the infamous annual Vermont trips, you're not afraid to portrait yourself as a total noob... Just saying.

You posted what you demoed, but demos are usually limited in size, so that's hardly an indication of anything. Then you were advised to buy something longer and wider, and you said that you could get the same from the local shop. So seeing 170 again was kind of surprising.

I find it interesting how you on one hand remember what and how many people have said here, keep on asking quite often very naively for all sorts of advice, and on another filtered out all of that and came up with something to the contrary.

What 3D Glass? That's old news. You missed the part how Kastles were pronounced as the Cadillacs of skis. So now it's LX vs MX dilemma. Oh wait, that's not for you. You're done for

Nah, that's sad. He's finished. No more one of a kind Elons. No more hunting for the best skis of his life. Now he's doomed to a boring winter of skiing on the same last season RTMs that nevertheless have to be religiously chained every time he has to go to a restroom.

Hmmm. That sounds pessimistic. And I overheard someone on a lift saying that New Year at BM is relatively empty. Perhaps they meant 12/31, not 01/01?

What are everybody's thoughts about 01/01 crowds? Xmas eve turned out to be pretty good, I'm thinking of coming on 01/01 for the whole day again.
  14. Oh, I've tried it. Skied in conditions when it rained at the bottom and snowed at the top. Did it for a whole day, ended up soaking wet even though we tried to stay up top, and were riding either in covered chairs or gondolas all the time. Stuff didn't dry overnight, but luckily it was the last day of skiing, and it was anyway a choice between being on the mountain and sitting in a room, so kind of no-choice. If I had to ski the next day, I would cut the skiing in the rain very-very short because it's not worth it.
  15. Yeah, don't believe him. It gets miserable real fast, and you can't see a thing in your mask from the very first moment. Also don't forget that the lifts here aren't covered so whenever you're not skiing, you're just soaking.
  16. I guess, it depends on how long you're on the slopes, and also how you ski. If I take it easy and make exploration the goal, I can ski all day long for a week in big mountains. Comes handy when you're in a new vast place. But after two days of racing BM up and down I feel that a third day in a row would definitely be unbearable.
  17. It's interesting that you bring it up. I understand, they used to be a sponsor here and there was even a discount for PASR members... Well, not anymore according to the owner. They moved to MA and took 10% with them
  18. No, zero lines on blue and black trails. That's a huge plus. Slow lifts are a huge minus.
  19. Glades condition varies. Very good at Challenge, worse at T-Bolt, not very skiable elsewhere. Elevator is not skiable at all, plenty of bushes, which frankly makes no difference for me, I wouldn't ski it anyway. It was a great day, I just wish the pace was a little faster. Too much sitting on lifts, too little skiing. I skied all day and am not even tired. Much prefer the concentrated energy of night BM visits.
  20. The weather isn't cooperating with real time reports
  21. Plenty of fresh snow lying around. And the Eastern side is still not fully open yet!
  22. Not lunch time yet. And they do have some fancy plates locally. Got to try them.
  23. Pic of the day
  24. It was quite slow at first. There is a temp rating on waxes. The stupid part was that I had a low temp was at home but relied on the "universal" label of F4.
