Today was our last day at Wolf Creek on this trip. It snowed 11” yesterday and there was plenty of untracked to be found in the trees just a short traverse off the Alberta lift. Also the ridges were nice and smooth with wind blown powder on all the aprons. I’ve been having fun on the ridges which are an easy skate traverse from the treasure lift and jumping off of some small cornices. Mostly skied the fresh powder in the trees today and was finding shin to knee deep powder even until lunchtime. Skied with the fam after lunch and drove back to Albuquerque. So glad we experienced a low key area with great snow and terrain. No crowds anywhere all week either. pics from today

I invited Jeff to milk it at monarch but he had a friend visiting CB.

I woke up early this morning since it was snowing and had a big drive to Monarch and they were reporting 1 inch as of 5:30, but it dumped for a few hours and we had a nice 6” of fresh in the morning and major dumpage from late morning through the rest of the day. Lots of nice powder turns and the first pow day my kids have experienced. What a cool little mountain Monarch is. It’s not that big and has small vert but the vibe was amazing and there was some really fun terrain. Nice steep runs from the top of panorama along the continental divide and some nice trees as well. I hiked Mirkwood, which is the “side country” area there and between the fresh and wind deposited snow I was getting knee deep in spots. It was awesome to see my kids get the hang of skiing powder and everyone is pooped!

Had another sunny spring day at Wolf Creek today. Things started softening up in the sun at about 10:30 am. I skied some with the family and went for a few nice walks along the ridges by myself too. I made the long hike all the way out to Horseshoe Bowl just to say I did it even though the snow there wasn’t great. The staircase up to the knife ridge was a cool experience. Did another hike/traverse into Montezuma Bowl which had really nice snow surprisingly. I never really thought about it, but the Alberta lift area is basically one huuuge glade and is so much fun to explore. Skied a lot of spring bumps today as well. Tomorrow we’re going to Monarch and looking like maybe a pow day on Friday.

Spring skiing was in full effect today and we had a great time. Kids did a 3 hour private lesson which was pretty much a mountain tour and they loved it. The instructor let them hike one of the ridges and ski off it and they now think their shit doesn’t stink. I did a few of the main favorites, Alberta face, glory hole, and even did the 25 minute hike to the top of Alberta peak and skied chute 5. Skied a bunch of bumps with my son in the afternoon. All in all it was a great day.

2/27-2/28 weekend roll call thread..

Traveling to New Mexico this weekend, so I'll see you all in a couple of weeks. -
Just gain a little weight! If its just a calculation you can put on muscle. I've been lifting heavy and eating tons of protein and put on about 5 lbs of muscle. I'm nearly obese, got about 2 lbs to go.

Do it

And jacket, boots and backpack. I’m on a spending spree!
-
The whole time I kept saying “don’t fall in don’t fall in don’t fall in don’t fall in”
-
I accept this price. Skiing and my kids are the only thing I really spend $ on so it’s all good.
-
I feel a special run of "milk that" hats coming up. I'm thinking $50 for a "milk that" hat would be a steal!

The trails were good. The cord did not hold up though due to all the people skidding around, but still there were only a few icy spots and could be easily avoided.

They were fine in the morning but got pretty long around 11 and stayed long. Didn’t wait more than 15 minutes, but they went all the way back to the porta potties near the parking lot.

I was there today too, very impressed with the coverage off trail. Best I’ve ever experienced it there. Lines were long but never waited more than 15 minutes. The temperature checks kind of seemed like “hygiene theater”, as the person took all four of our temperatures in record time and never got within a foot of my son’s skin, but I will say that Montage has the best COVID situation going on that I’ve seen so far with a lot of outside eating and solid mask patrol in lift lines.

Do you think Sunday is a better bet than Saturday, or not much difference? Can always do montage Saturday.
-
YIkes! We were up there on the Jan 23 and 24th and we must have beaten the crowds to get parking and tickets. I'll make sure to get there extra early tomorrow. Don't need any rentals which is nice. Thanks for the info!

Won’t make it to blue this weekend, going to Elk Saturday and Montage Sunday. Gotta get the family out this weekend to make up for neglecting them last week in CO!

I had to do one round of snow removal on my driveway already. I'm at work now and it's still dumping hard. Snow on the roads was nice and grippy though.

Ropedee #4? “That’s fuckin rocky as shit” I’ve been looking up Alaska heli skiing all week. Nothing else will do now.

Not sure how it works in that school district, but in mine there was the option to elect "cyber" school which is different than "remote" in that you just have to complete the work but it is all asynchronous. Remote learning, you have to be on a zoom all day. Could be that a lot of these kids are doing cyber and just getting all their work done before and after skiing.

What an honor to grace the first cover of PASR magazine!
