    Taos 2023

Thanks! They are definitely way better than I was at their age. Hopefully they have a lifelong hobby.

    Taos 2023

Thanks! It’s like 100 yards from the top of the lift if that. Takes about 2 minutes but I still get a little out of breath at 12,500.

    Taos 2023

Wrapped things up nicely on Friday, which was a beautiful sunny day. Started out with a nice long perfect groomer from the very top of lift 2 all the way down to the bottom of the backside. Perfect corduroy and no people so I could really let them run. Seas really hoping that the Kachina peak lift would open since it hadn’t run since Monday and there was fresh snow the past few days. My wish was granted at about 10:30 when I saw it was loading and I immediately hopped in line. I was probably about the 20th or so chair, and even though it was tracked up under the lift from patrol, i traversed out to the K chutes and was able to get an untouched foot or more of powder straight down K4. Brought my son up a couple times and brought my daughter up as well. Aside from a nice lunch at the Bavarian, I basically just skied Kachina peak all day in the sun and it was magical. Back in Albuquerque now and heading back to PA tomorrow.

    Taos 2023

They ultimately reported 9 inches today but there were some very deep turns to be had on the mountain. First run I decided to get up to the top of lift 2 and I skied right under the lift and it was deep. Skied the what chutes and a bunch of steeps while waiting for the backside to open. Caught the rope drop on Hunziker bowl and it was very very nice. Snow started again at about 10 am and it dumped until about 2:45. Free refills were had all over and especially in the trees. Rare for me any more these days to do a bell to bell session but I skied hard all day with a short break to eat it was so good. Ran into my kids’ group a couple times and they were having a blast. Sadly tomorrow is my final day here. pics in no particular order:

    Taos 2023

Couple pics from today. Skied hard and too lazy to write much. Looks like some snow tonight and tomorrow morning. Snowed an inch or 2 this afternoon and freshened some things up a bit.

    Taos 2023

Just got back from day 2 at Taos ski valley. Was super windy this morning and lifts were on hold until about 10 am. Dropped the kids at ski school and skied a couple runs with my wife and mom before I decided to ski some woods off the backside. After that took a 15 minute hike up highline ridge and traversed over past the tresckow ridge and twin trees chute to a rarely skied area called eagles nest. I had never found it before and I was up for an adventure. Found my way in there and was rewarded with an untouched powder line. Had a bratwurst for lunch and then skied some steep trees. After that took a hike up to west basin and broke my pole while whacking my boot to get the snow off. Skied a very nice Zdarsky (5th chute) and it was very weird not being able to pole plant on one side. Took lift 2 back up and saw my kids and instructor coming up 7a and I tagged along with them down longhorn which is a legendary Taos steep. Hoping it’s not too windy tomorrow then looks like a storm rolling in. Trees Eagles nest kids on longhorn
  8. Had a nice first day at Taos Ski Valley. Kids are in ski school for the next 3 days so I skied a bunch with my wife and kids today. Was nice and sunny and about 3-4 inches of new snow to start. Kachina peak lift opened around lunchtime and we decided it was time to take my son up there. He skied Main Street to Nastar Chute and handled it great. Since that went well I could see he was ready for another extreme steep, Castor. Skied a lot of trees and groomers and all in all a great day. Got lots of pics of my son. Need to get the little son of a bitch to take some of me next time.
  9. Coyote was checking me out when I was on my morning walk here in Albuquerque.

  15. @AtomicSkier, wanna go halfsies?
  16. I'd like to recommend the Econo Lodge in Montpelier.
  17. You guys got me paranoid - time to check all my upcoming travel arrangements to make sure I have the right month.
  18. Getting to be that time of year that I start checking out the weather for my Taos trip and too bad I'm not going this week! Fat chance that I'll have fresh pow after the "Jackson Hole Incident of 2023".
  19. I forgot that you were going to be up there today! I would have kept my eyes peeled. Mostly lapped the north face with my son, then had 6 slices of Revellos pizza at the Midland. Here’s a couple crappy iPhone SE pictures of my son getting steezy.

    Elk 2/11/23

Fun day at Elk Mountain! Conditions were far from perfect but pretty damn good considering how this winter has been. Only a couple closed trails, and they were blowing on a couple. They had blown a couple inches into the bumps on Tunkhannock overnight and it skied great. Even in the afternoon it wasn’t too icy. Definitely some icy spots on some trails and a few skid marks, but that’s to be expected considering the weather lately. Run of the day was Tecumseh. Snow and grooming was NICE on that one. Chilling with a brewski now and going to dinner at my spot Dino and Francesco’s tonight. Nice little day with the family.

  21. I just saw that the Blister Summit is taking place while you are out there. Keep your eyes peeled for some pro skiers cruising around!
  22. Planning on Saturday this weekend!
  23. Nice. Slide brook express wasn't open when I was there last year either. Wanted to explore Mt. Ellen a bit but we started on Lincoln Peak so it was a no go. Enjoy!
  24. After being back home and back at work I feel like it was all a dream. Thanks to @AtomicSkier, @GrilledSteezeSandwich, @mute1080 and @NazarethSkier for a super memorable trip. Gonna be hard to match this one in the future.
