  6. After Thursday's wind closure of all upper mountain lifts, Friday turned out to be okay even though it was cold as shit and still windy. Started out with with a super fast run down the groomers all the way "around the world" as it's called in Taos, which means from the top of lift 2 all the way down to the bottom of the backside lift 4. It had been so windy that I found a couple areas where there was 4 to 6 inch deep wind blown spots even though there had only been flurries at best. Hit $ slot and Staub woods twice apiece. Kachina lift was running and I took a spin up there. Got to the top and saw world famous RMI guide and mountaineer/ TSV patroller Dave Hahn up at the top shoveling some snow. Said hi and exchanged pleasantries with him and he seemed cool. Went down K5 and traversed at the bottom over to Nastar chute which had some wind blown snow in it as well. Had some lunch at Rhoda's which was expensive but the gringo enchiladas were ok. After lunch I went up through the gate for Lorelei, but instead of dropping in, I went left to the pierres, Werner, R&r ridge line. This is the most extreme area on the frontside. I went into Werner tribe which was the steepest thing I skied all week. It funneled into Longhorn, which is a 1200 vertical foot extremely steep double-black with huge bumps. Total ass kicker. Went back up and skied castor to Pollux, had kind of a scary fall in there but was ok. Had to hike up for a ski farther then I would have liked. Did a couple more groomers, ran into my son in the bathroom of the "whistlestop cafe" and we both cracked up at the coincidence. Did one last run down the frontside, Rhoda's glade to edelweiss and went over to the ski school to do a couple runs with my kids. My daughter made amazing progress, she skied some blues that would be similar to say Main Street or razors at blue. Son did well too so I was really happy with that. Definitely the worst weather I've ever had in Taos, but still a great time. Sorry not too many pics, it was cold and windy so I left my gloves on a lot. Pics of nastar chute and the top,of longhorn. 7. Everything on wind hold today. Yesterday was a fun groomer day. Did some hot laps with my buddy's uncle who is on patrol here. Skiied at speeds I normally do not. Getting some runs in with the kids and got some new boot liners today. Figuring out alternative plans for tomorrow and Saturday since winds are once again in the forecast. Either Santa Fe or Wolf creek. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Today was better than I expected! Started out easy, took a couple runs with my wife and mom after I dropped the kids at ski school. Made my way to the backside at about 9:45 and right after I got over there, lift 2 closed and no one else was able to get back there. Had the whole place to myself for about 2 hours. Lapped High Noon bowl, some random trees, and el funko. Repeated that all a few times. After lunch I really got after it. I hiked up from lift 1 and dropped into ernies which was amazing. Consistent 35 - 40 degree pitch with nicely spaced trees. A couple guys I was skiing with that I met on the boot pack were dropping pretty big cliffs in there. Was cool to see. Went back up 1 to 2 and skied castor and Pollux - 2 really steep tree runs. After that, I decided to hike to west basin to hit the Wild West glade before patrol closed it at 2:30. I hustled my ass up there, but right as I got to the gate at St Bernard they closed it. I had never skied St. Bernard before and it was probably one of the gnarliest things I've ever skied. Beyond steep, with a choke at the bottom not much wider than my skies. This is one of the runs used for the Salomon Freeride championships. Sideslipped a portion, but made it down alive and had fun doing it. Finished off the day doing some frontside steeps, Rhoda's glade and showoff. Here are some pics of scenery, el funko, st b., and frontside steeps. Tomorrow I'm skiing with a buddy who is kind of cautious, but will be fun anyway! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Had a really fun day today. Unfortunately, yesterday's expected storm delivered nothing, but it was fun spring conditions. Shady trees were a little icy, but everything else was okay. I got after it pretty good, skied a bunch of fun groomers, but the interesting runs were Lorelei, hunziker bowl, el funko, blitz, one of the Bambi chutes (3 I think), kachina Main Street, walkyries and ash pond. Pics are of those runs. Hit a hidden rock near the top of kachina main, lost a ski and luckily self arrested and managed to escape bodily harm. Got a nasty core shot in my ski and had to take to the shop for repair. Tomorrow should be spring again, windy and cold the rest of the week but I'll make the best of it! 10. Heading to New Mexico tomorrow morning. Got my Moments and my Chams snugly packed and the car loaded up. Gonna spend a couple days in the 'burque before heading up to Taos. Nicest base on the mountain that there has been the last few years I've visited. Hopefully I'll get to ski some fun stuff. Maybe some snow on Sunday and Thursday possible, but doesn't look like much. Won't stop me from getting after it! I'll post some pictures words and videos along the way. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  12. I have a standard SUV for 6 days through Advantage rent a car for $368 for next week. My moms car isn't AWD and I like to have something decent in case it snows. Not really apples to apples though because everything is cheap in Albuquerque. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I like discombobulated. When I was traveling back from Milwaukee, they have a "recombobulation area" to get your shit together after you go through airport security. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
