  1. they would have to pay employees to be there. also, most or none of us would be getting rooms at their hotel, so don't get your hopes up.
  2. I highly doubt it would make enough money for BC to even consider it.
  3. Hmm. So essentially, a handful of above-average temperature days killed it (the first week of March was actually below-average)? When you initially said Mid-April, what kind of weather were you anticipating for late-March, early April anyway? I'm sure we all appreciate the effort, but personally, I'd rather have never had my hopes up in the first place. Any word on the park-only reduced-price pass idea you floated earlier in the season? Something like that would be fantastic.
  4. The pipe is wrecked. Too many muddy/bare spots in the middle and the walls are pretty inconsistent. I don't imagine it will be fun. If you're interested in nice long or challenging trails, BC is not the place for you. Outside of the park, the terrain is really lacking. There's a nice boarder x course, but since my season started in late January (I was out with a broken wrist for a while), I haven't been there one day where the features were actually setup on that course. So all that April talk.. just BS and unsubstantiated rumors?
  5. Temps will be dropping after tonight. Some nights this week will even dip into the 20s.

    Park

    *rofl*
  7. Either that or the ol' look-down-and-tighten-up-the-binders move. "Damn loose bindings!"
  8. I rode with Justin and damn, had to be one of the iciest days I've ever ridden in my life! I felt really off.. I seemed to get zero grip coming off of every rail/box. Of course, I was the genius who was rounding off my edges a bit in the parking lot before I rode (since last week I felt they were too sharp.) I don't think the pipe was in too bad of shape - it felt rideable to me, not that I'm pulling anything more than a foot or two with a method grab in there
  9. The majority of my frustration lies in the lifts. I realize lines are going to happen on weekends/holidays, but it is extremely annoying to have the quad stop 3, 4, 5 times during the trip up. If people are having that much problem getting on/off the lift then they should maybe be encouraged to hone their lift skills on one of the smaller chairs. Maybe some of the lift operators need help too - I don't know. Hope that doesn't come off snobby.. But I notice the quad at BC stops and slows down waaaay more than any of the other resorts/mountains I have been to. It really makes the day feel less fulfilling.

    Timberline

Yeah same here.. that was a little bit of a disappointment
  11. yeah unfortunately today (sat), there was still as many clueless kids camping out on jumps and such, sprawled out throughout the main park and halfpipe - my guess is that it isn't real obvious that there is a kid park out there - its kind of easy to miss. little mini-parks are awesome for building up confidence and such.. last year killington's kiddie park eas exactly what i needed to nail down the basics - even at age 26.
  12. i'll echo that request
  13. i know big bear will be closed, but really, i havent hit any jumps, rails, or boxes since last year, so the small park and timberline should be enough to keep me occupied...
  14. Anyone here hitting up the creek tommorow (1/28)? This is my first season riding BC without my riding buddy (who moved out to SLC recently, god bless em). I'd really love to ride with some new people. I'll prolly be in a blue bonfire jacket, tan pants, white 32 boots, ride serum board. -kevin
  15. Rail advice: Stay low. Bend your knees. If you are upright with your knees locked, you're looking for trouble. Make sure you are centered, not leaning back or to the side. If you freeride on edge a lot, make sure you keep your board flat on the box or rail. If you feel yourself sliding off to the side, don't fight it - let it happen and try to recover as you are landing in the snow.
  16. "On Saturday, January 28, Black Bear Park will be closed during the day. Cascade Park will remain open. The Halfpipe will be closed on Sunday, January 29, and possibly on Saturday January 28 as well." "during the day" - Big frame of time there. Also, "Possibly on Saturday" is kind of vague. I'm just.. Excited in anticipation of finally starting my season in PA, a month and a half late..
  17. damn.. i just got the thumbs up from my doctor to start riding again fulltime (broke my wrist last year, had surgery - bone graft - recently).. but i guess this won't be the weekend i get to put my pass to use, if the park's gonna be closed off to the public :'(
  18. I'd settle for the current quad not stopping a dozen times every ride on the lift on weekends...
  19. Well this is PA afterall - BC only averages, what, 3 total feet of natural snow per year, if that?
  20. Basically. At other mountains, like Stratton and Mountain Creek, to get access to the big park, you need to watch a video on safety and etiquette. MC also charges a small fee for the pass for the year. The video is pretty painless. What, all 100 yards of that oh-so-challenging black diamond terrain that BC offers? While I don't necessarily disagree with the idea of restricting access to black diamonds, that's really a discussion for another time - we're talking about terrain parks right now. This seems to be more of an age issue than what people have strapped to their feet issue IMHO. Younger kids are prone to either not realize what kind of a hazard they can be if they plop down right off the lift, or just don't care. pro
  21. Yup. My parents live up there.. I went to BVM & Ryan - they live on Chapel Rd, over near the Swim Club. I can prolly swing by up there on some weekends, though I won't be heading back to the creek for a bit, until my doctor clears me (i broke my wrist last year, got surgery on august, and he's not sure it is strong enough to take a fall for another couple weeks..)
  22. Where in Philly do you live? I'm in South Philly.. if you're anywhere nearby, I could probably give you a ride on days I head up there..
  23. How did it go tonight?
  24. I'm pondering it. This would be my first day at the creek this year - I had surgery for a broken wrist this past August and my doctor doesn't want me riding again till late January for fear it isn't yet strong enough to survive a bad fall.. But I really don't think I can wait until the season is half over. If work lets us out around mid-day tommorow, I think I might just head up. I'll prolly be wearing a blue bonfire jacket, tan pants, white 32 boots, and a black RED helmet.. prolly staying away from the jibs for fear of the whole wrist thing
  25. oh really? could have fooled me. i swear last year, every weekend there was an instructor leading a half dozen 3 foot tall kiddies through the small park and often straight through the pipe too. they may not have been "park" lessons but they definitely were skiing through the park often. note, i have no specific problem with little kids or anyone for that matter, getting lessons.. but this stuff was definitely going on and definitely was a hazard on some days.
