I'm a huge fan of learning to use my camera properly, and I'm learning stuff everyday I shoot with it. China was a ton of fun for that, and I tried a lot of settings out on my camera that I had never played with before. Right now my setup is a Nikon D70 (2.0 firmware) with the Nikkor 18-200 VR lens. One of the things I always forget to set before I go out is my WB and ISO, and this is one of the big things has kept me from shooting great photos right off the bat. Amateur mistake... Always set your camera for the conditions and take it from there. I've been told that this is arguably one of the most common mistakes now that a lot of people skip film and go straight to digital. I haven't played with film since very early grade school, so would consider myself learning on digital only. I'm not a real big fan of post processing, because I have a professor now who I have no respect for because she has a terrible eye for good photography and considers Photoshop a more important aspect of photography than the shot itself.

JF is pretty cool in that they have some big mountain type stuff that they open up. No other mountains in the area besides Elk have that kinda stuff that you won't get your pass pulled for.

Those skis would kick your ass... You want em just to hang out on your wall or something? You have good skis for the kind of skier you are. That being said, I'm sure if you see them on SAC it wouldn't hurt to buy them and flip them on TGR if you can take that heat...

In any case, thanks a ton for putting this on Johnny. Again there was a ton of swag and everyone that I knew who came was having a blast until the very end. Thats part of entering a comp though.

Bear Creek has spent money like a drunken whatever for the past 4 or 5 years, and now the owners want to see the investment pay off. They are done for now with the hotel and conference areas, which will likely turn into the profitable part of their business given their location and environment. If it doesn't then they're gonna have to go pretty heavy on summer sports or build the hated water park type attractions. I can't really compare the two because I've never been to Sno, but just from what I read here and see online and hear from people, they are going through pretty similar periods of investment except that the money is being spent in very different ways.

No you can still go up and compete, but there is no way you would be able to really win anything since the prizes awarded are for the series winners. There aren't prizes after every comp in the series, just the finals.

Ski season felt sooooo short this year. Jeeze....
